Minor League Freeze

I've seen an issue about OOTP4 freezing and I think I've found the culprit....

At certain points - the game will freeze up on me, simply hang after completing a day's sim. If I play through a single game it hangs up when simulating minor leagues (if, of course, I have simulate minor games enabled). I then after to use the system manager (CTL+ALT+DEL) to end the session. I can reenter OOTP4 and play the next day, but it will again hang up at the end of the day. If I do this often enough (CTL+ALT+DEL) I can eventually get through a season -- sometimes a week at a time, sometimes a whole month. However - the game totals get screwy at the end, as if certain games have been played twice. It's not team by team consistent; some teams finish with 170 games, some 165, some 180, etc...

If I disable 'simulate minors' -- no freezes, no problems.

I'm running a Dell Pentium 4, 512 DRAM, in WIN XP with ample hard drive space (80 gig total, about 55 remaining).

I should also say that I'm using several 'add-ons' -- Rolen's roster set from the past offesason, I'm also using ballpark, logo, and player photo sets....

Any ideas? I really prefer to be able to simulate the minor leagues.......

Just an FYI -- I believe I have the most recent update (been playing

If the minors are giving you the problem then "pruning" them would likely fix your crash problem. By pruning I mean lowering the amount of minor league players to 20-25 per level, or about 80-100 players per organization. Make sure you also have the rookie draft set to about 5 rounds or the bloated minor league slowdowns/crashes will return in a few years time.

Also note that running a corrupted league (as you were doing in the description above) requires a reset (restarting the season at opening day). The game will do some bizarre things when the league file is in this corrupted state.

thanks for ideas

Thanks for the assistance Killebrew....

I do use a 7 round amateur draft - and I have a tendency to carry a large minor league roster, so perhaps I will try cutting that down.

Also - I've gotten kinda lazy - I've backed up the league (to save recent roster changes, etc) and often use these *.dat files to start a new league (start new league - then copy the *.dat files from my backup folder into the new league folder), so perhaps I'm mucking up the works by doing this, too.

One question -- If I have 'simulate minors' disabled, does player development, learning new positions, etc still function as usual? In other words - if simulate minors is disabled, is the only loss that of minor league statistics?

If so - not so much a huge deal to do so....

BTW - haven't been on the board for a while, but just goes to show what an awesome game this is. This is the first and only real problem I've had, and I've done 100s of seasons. My OOTP4 folder is darn near the largest on C drive!!!

Yes, player development, learning new positions, etc. still function as usual even if "simulate minors" is disabled. The only thing you lose is the minor league stats.
