Anybody see Hafner last night (07/04/05)

I went to both games yesterday, and man oh man, did Hafner look like an all-star to me.

He hit 3 absolute BOMBS last night, and his line was, I believe, 8-10 with 3 homers and 8 rbi's.

I can't see how he was left off the All-star team.

I'm feeling lazy right now -- when was the last time an allstar team had two DHs?

While I'm happy for Paul Konerko making the All-Star team, I have to concur.

That reminds me, I have to try to stuff the ballot box for Podsednik.

My point was he is better than Konerko, but thanks for playing.

Yes, I understood your point.

I'll take you through my point. Hafner doesn't play defense. Therefore his position is DH. Hafner is a better offensive player than a number of others. But, he does not play their positions, so he should not be compared to them. (You could argue that he should be compared to 1B and not the DH. That is fine -- but it is an argument, only. It is not clear that this is a better argument than Hafner should only be compared against DHs.) I think he should only be compared against DHs -- which leads me to the question I asked (which I didn't ask sarcastically) -- when has an all-star game had multiple DHs on one team. For all I know it is often.

While I didn't see him, I heard about his night.

Is Hafner a product of the Indians system, or did he come over in a trade?

He came up in the system along with C.C., Peralta, Coco Crisp, Broussard, and Martinez.

Sizemore came from Montreal in the Colon deal.

Looks very similiar to 95' in terms of number of players who were home grown.

By the way, I'm "A" Bailey as well, good name , and being a Bailey, I'm sure you have done exactly what the smiley is doing above!

He was the Texas 1/2 of the Einar Diaz/Ryan Dresse trade 2 or so years ago.

I think the problem is the voting happened over a week ago. A number of guys have been saying if they could vote today they might change for Pronk. Just ufortunate timing.

See, proof that the players shouldn't vote in all-stars. Otherwise, how else do you explain Konerko making it over Hafner?

As has been pointed out in this thread, they don't play the same position.

Get your sarcasm detector fixed, I was referring to the fact that the players picked Knoerko, and didn't pick Hafner. Just like FJ asking how the fans could pick Eckstein.

Actually Coco Crisp started out in the Cardinals farm system. He was the player to be named later in the Chuck Finley deal.

The Cards had Coco and Stubby Clapp in their system at the same time. Two of the more unique names I can remember from my days as a Card fan.
