Hispanic name files tester needed

I have been systematically redoing all of the name files for OOTP. My 1000 nicknames file was included by Markus in 6.5, there's a new version of the historical name generator file set in testing, and I have also been redoing the complete set of name generation files for the modern era to improve them. I think that I've made the best set ever - it's census-based, the Asian (Japanese) files were extensively cleaned up, and a ton of Hispanic surnames were added to the Latin surname file.

I want these name files to be done right, so I have a Japanese PC baseball gamer I know lined up to look at/test the Asian file, but I don't know of any Hispanic PC baseball gamers (well, I don't know any that I know are Hispanic, let me put it that way) to look at/test the Hispanic name files. So, if you would like to volunteer to be an inspector/tester, drop me a PM. Thanks.

If you're playing pre-1947 American baseball, then the All-American Mod (a namefiles/ethnicites/nation/cities file pack) is for you.

No interest? No problem, I'll just keep the new and improved files for myself.

Actually the games list is pretty accurate. The us census has a list of the top 639 hispanic surnames posted. Also there is a US last name file with 87,000 + surnames with frequency and you can take the hispanic names after 639 from there. There is also a first name file created by the census bureau also. I was actually looking at pursuing this about a year ago but gave up on it because the lanames file is pretty accurate. Other than frequency the list in the LANAMES.dat almost mirrors what the US Census listing has for the top US Hispanic names. Decided that volume rather than frequency was more important. So instead of a ton of GARCIA (18th most common surname in the US/#1 Hispanic Name) being created I like the idea of popping off with a random name - to get more of the Zuniga, Riojas and other hispanic names that are not so common.....

I have the list of US Last Names, US First Names and the listing of the top 639 Hispanic names (no frequency though because they are on the US LAST names list).

I'd like to help you if I can. I was born in Puerto Rico but grew up in New York. I've only been playing out of the park for a few days but I noticed some mistakes in the default lafnames and lanames files. There are some African-American sounding names I noticed in the files, like Cordell, Jermaine, Cedrick, etc. I've never met any native Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Venezuelans, Cubans, Colombians, Mexicans, etc. with those names. There are also many common Latino names that are not in the files.

Also names vary from country to country in Latin America like they do everywhere. True you'll find a lot of Jose's in every Spanish speaking country, but you will also find names that are unique to a particular country. Examples - I know a Cuban dude named Lenin Rodriguez, a Dominican named Wellington, and a Mexican named Otilio. I don't know any Puerto Ricans with those names, so they are probably unique to those countries.

Anyway, let me know if I can help you. I'm new to game, but I'll try my best.

The files have been sent. The Hispanic name file set and the Japanese set are both under review by editors of the appropriate backgrounds.

I expect when they are done reviewing them to be able to make the best full OOTP name file set ever available for downloading, one with the best European, Hispanic, and Asian name files ever put together and with my 1000-nickname file in the set as well. Except for the rare exceptions that no one can protect against there won't be any unreasonable, inappropriate, or silly names generated by it.

The Hispanic and Japanese sets are done, and the American set is in final revisions for last name frequency accuracy.

They would have been out along time ago but I had friend/family problems and then I got activated when Hurricane Katrina hit and lost a couple of months.
