feeler for a real stats/ootp type hybrid league
I've been tossing around the idea of starting a league that used real stats for some time now. I want a league that is as close as possible to the real thing. I'm writing this to see if there is any interest in such a league. It would basically be just like an OOTP league only with real stats. We would have financials, free agency, minor leagues and everything. Here is the basic outline:
It would probably be only an AL or NL league, for two reasons. One is that I want to keep it small, at least at first, because I would only want QUALITY owners. Since the league would use real stats it would not be nearly as fast paced as an OOTP league. Second, I would want the talent of the league to be realistic, and if there are fewer teams than in MLB but we used the entire MLB as a pool, then there would be too many good players. I would probably have to use Yahoo or something similar to count the points and all that. So owners would set their rosters on yahoo, which would also have the standings. The league website would link to it but also have other things like the forum, rules, owners, financials, ect. We would have to decide between head to head or points based. I like the idea of head to head better, however I have only been in a Yahoo league once that used it and I didnt like how it worked. I will have to look into this further. The financials would be a huge part of it. I would probably have it all mapped out in an Excel file that would be available to keep track of financials for each team. There will be no salary cap, but there will be other measures taken to preserve parity. I might have all teams start out even, and any success thereafter could increase revenues. Or, I was also thinking of using real teams revenues as a starting point, and including things like luxury tax and revenue sharing (as close as possible to how it ACTUALLY works in the MLB). There would be a formula of some type that would determine how much better a team performed and how much more revenue that would bring them, for example a 10% increase in wins might increase your revenue 5% or 10% or whatever would make sense. I actually have almost all of this worked out in great detail and it will be available if there is interest in the league. Another idea would be to have 3 different market sizes, small, average, large, and split the teams between those choices. This would allow owners to play differently, as some like the challenge of working with small payrolls. Players would also recieve contracts, which the excel files would keep track of. I'm thinking about including things like no trade clauses and performance bonuses if I can get them to work out right, and I think I'm pretty close. The players could also have random preferences, like desire to win, market preference, desire to get more playing time ect, and I have worked out a few things that could be used. Again, the point of this is really just that I love the real stat fanasty leagues and OOTP and want something that will bring them both together. It would combine the real stats of a Yahoo type league with the management of an OOTP league. As I said before there would be minor leagues also, which would not get stats, but will be the future of your team. So basically you would just have "Minors" not AAA, AA, A ect. The players would just kinda sit there, until they come up in real life and you can then chose to play them if you would like. So it would be very indepth and drafting prospects would be worthwhile, unlike in most Yahoo leagues. So let me know if there is any interest in a league like this. Just remember that it would be somewhat slow, and very indepth. You can either reply here or email me at dscrowley1@hotmail.com if you are interested. Thanks |

So, you're talking about a rotisserie style 'keeper' league, basically?

I have not been able to find any keeper leagues that allow you to keep your entire roster, and that is what I am trying to create. Most I have found let you keep somewhere between 3 and 12 of your players and redraft the rest. I want to be able to draft a complete team, and keep everyone. This way you dont have to choose between keeping a 34 year old vet who still has some game or a 21 year old prospect who may or may not ever pan out.

I don't get what OOTP has to do with this.

It doesn't really have anything to do with OOTP exactly, I posted it here because it is a forum for people who like myself, are involved in many OOTP leagues and I thought people may be interested in something a little different. The idea is that it would combine the dynasty and management side that makes OOTP great, with real MLB player performance.
I'll have more info on the specifics a later tonight. |
