After 5 months of searching, scanning, cropping, editing and re-naming, I am pleased (and relieved) to announce the completion of Phase 1 of my player photo compilation project.

From 1871-1989, there were (I believe) 2160 players who logged either 1000 career Games Played and/or 1000 career Innings Pitched according to baseball-reference.com. These are the players (listed by debut year) included in this set. 2 players (Sam Weaver-1875 and Terry Larkin-1876) are in the set as blanks as they are the lone players I didn't have a picture for.

There are 12 different zip files for this set, each containing that particular decade's players. Each decade folder is divided into sub-folders for each individual year and the players within each year then sorted in a firstname_lastname.bmp 90 x 135 format. Straight-on head/shoulder shots were used whenever possible, and were always my first choice. I wanted to be able to put a face with a name, not a batting stance or pitching form.

Pictures from 1871-1953 are all in a B/W format, with 1954-1989 containing all color pictures. This was done for consistency among yearly pictures. 1954 was used as the first year for color for 2 reasons. 1) That was the year Topp's started using actual color photos on their cards, and 2) Jan 1, 1954 was the first nationally televised program in color.

I also edited pictures to remove obvious baseball card markings. I wanted them to appear as "photographic" as possible and think it makes the set look cleaner as a whole. There are some 19th century pics that still need some work, but they will have to wait, for now.

I had a fine line to walk with regards to player/team pairings. Terry Steinbach (1986), for example, is pictured in a Minnesota Twin's uniform even though he played the vast majority of his career for Oakland. It was simply because it was easily the highest quality photo of him that I found. I apologize in advance for having your favorite player in the uniform of your most-hated rival.

I have e-mailed JoeRockEHF to see if he is willing to list the files at his OOTP Download Center, but have yet to get a response. I will post an update if and when they are available for download.

I am in the process of adding photos to my Alltime Allstar Association.

Each team is composed of arguably a team's best 25 players...also added Negro stars to the original 16 franchises.

Great! I'm just in the process of starting a historical replay from 1901 using 6.5 and this is the type of thing that will make it more enjoyable.
