Let me into your mind....

One of the things we did when we first took on Eastside was to get into the mind of the average EHM player and try to discover where they get their hockey fix from

I'd like to pick your brains on this forum?

What printed publications do you use to get the latest game information?

What websites do you use to get your your latest game info?

What printed publications do you use to get Baseball info?

What websites do you use to get Baseball info?

What are the biggest and best fantasy baseball sites around?

Any other info about where a North American baseball fan gets his Baseball fix from on a daily, weekly or monthly basis is very much appreciated.

As far as latest game info, I check MLB.com, or sportingnews.com. Printed publications have too much lag time to be of any real use to me.

As far as general baseball information, I've found the following sites/pubs useful:
(Most of these are both print and web):

Baseball America
Sports Weekly, published by USA Today, used to be Baseball Weekly
MLB.Com (Web Only)
Baseball Fever (forum site--good for team specific info, from the fan perspective)
Sporting News
The Hardball Times (Web Only)

Fantasy sites: CBS Sportsline and Yahoo. The two best for the buck...

1) I don't, really.
2) Don't here, either. I generally hear things through word-of-mouth.
3) Printed publications are so 20th century...
4) BaseballThinkFactory, Hardball Times, Baseball Prospectus, Baseball-Reference, The Pinstriped Bible/Blog, occasionally ESPN.com
5) Don't play fantasy baseball.

Hope that was more helpful than it looks.

If thats the case, how does Baseball digest have 2.26m loyal readers (3 readers per copy apparently) that would be a little more than 750,000 copies sold per issue

**Devils Advocate mode ENDS....**

I'll give this a shot.

1. I've gotten Electronic Gaming Monthly from time to time; it's pretty good, but I've never renewed.

2. Gamespot.com, Gamerankings.com, teamxbox.com

3. None usually. I have been subscribed to Baseball Digest, Sports Illustrated, and ESPN the Mag at various times. I didn't much care for any of them. They were actually fine, I just don't like magazines as a news source.

4. ESPN.com, MLB.com, team specific websites (cubs.com) and message boards (northsidebaseball.com).

5. I've never done fantasy baseball, but the football league I once did on Yahoo was pretty good, so that's a pretty good bet.

Bonus Question: Like someone else said, Baseball Tonight is pretty big. Despite usually moronic hosts and analysis, the style of the show is pure baseball, and enough highlights to redeem Kruk's effect on watchability.

If you don't mind my asking, Marc, why these questions? Some marketing, I assume?

My experience is that people who read Baseball Digest tend not to be the kind of people who play baseball simulations.

I agree with that. My dad and I used to read Baseball Digest regularly when we played Strat, but that was 20+ years ago. Since the internet's explosion, I haven't read a sports publication in many years. I think the last printed sports-related publication I read with any frequency was Baseball Weekly. Other than the daily paper, all my sports information comes from the web.

By the way, by publication I mean some sort of periodical. I still read a number of books on baseball.

I loved Baseball Digest when I was a kid. Nothing better than getting that small book like magazine with talk about players, their batting averages, the quiz about what call would you make in odd baseball situations. Now I'm probably too sabermetrically cynical to enjoy it anymore.

Most of my information now comes from reading sites like The Hardball Times, Sabernomics, Baseball Graphs, and the vast array of blogs that focus on specific teams, but the authors will often use sabermetric inspired musings about their teams.

I'm like the sheep. I used to love reading it when I was younger and I went and subscribed again. Three issues in, I might have read all of two articles.

The Sporting News used to have excellent baseball coverage and box scores when I was younger too but it changed too.

There really isn't a truly GOOD baseball periodical it seems.
