Clarification on www.ootpsim.com
Hi Everyone,
I noticed some negative comments (putting it lightly) about my league yesterday, and just wanted to point out why we had that policy originally. In many online leagues, you have your really committed owners and then you have your flunkies who join the league, make some stupid moves, basically destroy a team, then move onto a new league. In order to prevent something like that, we asked that owners chip in $5 for the right to own the team. We made it available for free at first so that a person could try the league out for a while (limiting his trades severly) and get a feel for the league, but we figured if the guy didn't want to pay, and someone came along who was a big fan of the team then there should be an opportunity for him to get involved. Worse case, I guess we felt this would ensure that a flunky would at least help the league survive longer if he joined... Now getting a site hosted does cost money (cheapest we found was around $43 /year with godaddy.com), so we use this money purely for this reason... We're not pocketing the cash. I understand this may seem stupid to many, but we felt it would weed out the undesirables... I also thought that paying $5 for a league that is consistent and fun was worth it... especialyl since i've personally been a few leagues that never get past the 2nd season... Sorry if I offended anyone. If someone has a more effective system, I'm all ears. Best Regards |

actually I can defiantely understand this lne of reasoning. while the leagues that i've been in have for the msot part avoided such flunkies, they do exist. some of the leagues that i've been a part of have asked for financial assistance as you' mentioned for the reasons above, and I would have no issue in the least for such a reasoning.
while i didnt see any negative feedback, you arent going to please everyone. I'd usualyl ask around for the reputation for prospective GM's, but that's jsut me. Good luck in either case.

$24.95 a month goes into both of my leagues, a few other leagues that are ran on my account, and $12.00 goes into the pointatrad.com and wcblbaseball.net domans per year, and I pay every dime.
If anything, you're going to run a hell of a lot of potential owners away if you force owners to pay up $5 just to keep their team. You're going to get owners who drop out or end up have their duties removed, wheather you charge owners money or not. I just checked out your owners page, and I see you only have about 1/3 of the league without an owner and another 1/3 of your league that hasn't donated, so they are vunerable to being replaced by someone who is willing to donate? Why punish someone who put time into running their team, and then all of a sudden have their duties as a general manager removed because someone else wants their team and would donate money. To me, that isn't too fair.

Please, theres no good reason to charge any $$. Most leagues that charge money put it toward a prize at years end, you just pocket it.

Thanks for all the constructive feedback.
To be honest, I don't mind spending the cash to cover the operating costs, so its really not even that. I felt it was the only mechanism I had to weed out frivolous from committed owners. I think we're going to change are policy on this and make the donating optional. |
