Catobase fixed: Simple step to get it working

If you're having troubles with Catobase, the problem resides with the ltrans.txt file in your leagues league_news_box directory. There is also a secondary problem that I seem to be running into that I have a fix for also. Here are the steps I used:

#1 - Create a backup of your league (obviously) and only work with that.

#2 - Once the league is backed up, open up the ltrans.txt file in NotePad, WordPad, or whatever other text editor you like.

#3 - Replace all the #&160 you see with a space using the find/replace command in your text editor. Octanes testing from the other thread says this doesn't seem to make a difference, but to be on the safe side I change it.

#4 - Replace all SP with P. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MATCH CASE or MATCH WHOLE WORD checked in the find/replace dialogue box, otherwise you'll end up changing a players name that has any combo of sp in it (not sure if this makes a difference or not...again just to be safe I do this). Repeat for MR and CL.

# 5 - I noticed this in my newly created 6.5 leagues - the Almanac folder is not written to disk at the end of the playoffs. Catobase needs to have the league.html file that resides there. If Catobase errors out asking for this file, go back to your main league directory and see if the Almanac file is there. If it is not, you need to go back into 6.5 and hit the "Proceed to Next Season" button. The Almanac folder should now be in your league's main directory. Copy this out to the backup directory where you are working from, and you should be good to go.

Hope this works for you.

Lets hope this helps Markus fix the problem....Because this seems like a lot extra steps to have to do each season other wise.

Thanks for helping diagnose the problem. That should prove quite useful in one way or another. However, I do not at all understand #5 above or what I quote below from the other thread (post #80).

One thing I noticed is that in 6.12 it appears the Almanac folder is being written to disk while you are playing through the season, or right after the playoffs are finished. However, in 6.5, it is not written to disk until you hit the "Proceed to Next Season" button. Catobase definitely needs the most recent league.html that is generated in the Almanac folder. I realized this when I simmed a new league and season all the way to the end in 6.5, and Catobase threw up an "Could not find the league.html file" error. If you are converting a 6.12 league, and not getting this error, it is because Cato is finding the old html file.
Have the yearly almanacs not always been created during processing into the next season? For what does CatoBase call a league.html file, and why would it look for it in an almanac folder?

&#160 text in ltrans.txt is the only issue...easy workaround

mattg591971 is correct...&#160 is the culprit. It is a new text string in the 6.5 ltrans.txt file above and below player trade reports that wasn't in version 6.15.

I was able to isolate this because I ran two full seasons in 6.5 and imported them to Catobase 6.1.4 with no issues, but then started seeing the errors other people were reporting after trying to import the third season. A quick check of the transaction files for those seasons yielded the results...no trades the first two years, but trades did occur in the third season that was choking Catobase.

mattg591971's fix works...at the end of the season, open the ltrans.txt file and replace all the &#160 references with single spaces using a text editor and Find/Replace All...then run Catobase.

Also, I don't think the new SP/MR/CL designations in 6.5 are an issue...Catobase seems to handle them fine. Ditto for the league.html error some people were getting (including me). I saw some other weird error messages while I was fighting with it, which I think were all caused by the &#160 glitch.

Hope this helps...

Catobase does not touch the almanacs at all either way.

I am still having a problem. When processing players, I get a "undefinied function 'Sui' in expression" error. I am checking out the player it occurred for to see if I notice anything special about him.

Despite the error (which occurred with two players), everything seemed to generate fine! I'll report back if I actually find a problem or the source of the error.

Here is a sample trade message with the string to be edited out...

6 Wednesday 3/1/1903 :
&#160
1 Trade between Detroit and Chicago (N) :
1 Chicago (N) gets :
1 1B Floyd Henderson
1 P John Hill
1 Detroit gets :
1 P Jimmie Blackwell
&#160

Use Find/Replace All in your text editor to change all instances of &#160 to a single blank space (just place your cursor in the "Replace with" field and hit the spacebar once).

You don't have to proceed to the next season to get the league.html file. You can create the online league report and get it that way as well.

I'm still getting the Type Mismatch error even after replacing all the #&160 with a single space. And with the SP/MR/CL changed to P.

This is what I thought as well. In fact, Catobase is asking to have the missing league.html file copied into the data folder... Wouldn't it be simpler to run the in-game html reports (with no player pages or box scores) and copy that league.html file over?

And how come we haven't had to do this before?

If you guys backup your database every year, try restoring it before proceeding with the new import. If you don't have a viable backup to restore from, try using the Database menu Delete Year function before trying to reimport the year in question, in order to clear out the partial previous "bad" load of those year files.

For example, if Cato barfed trying to load the 2003 season, restore your 2002 backup (if available), or use Delete Year to remove any 2003 files that may have been partially loaded before trying it again.

OK, I got it working, FINALLY! I must have messed with the file too much so I redid another season and now it worked fine. Funny things is, all I had to do is replace the SP, MR & CL! I didn't have the other characters in there at all.

We have had to that before, just not each time. I'm not sure we will have to do it every time now either (haven't read enough of the threads). But there were those folks who had difficulties when initially getting Cato to work the first time who had to go through this step. But generally, it was the first season only.

That's odd. I've use Catobase on dozens of solo leagues over the last year and a half, and have never had to do that... Guess I'm just lucky.
