Player Popularity

One thing I have noticed is that when you convert a OOTP6 file to 6.5 is that while many of the players will have ratings for their National Popularity levels, nobody has a rating for their Local levels.

Perhaps that could be changed or at least their could be a way to let us edit that rating so when we create historical files we could adjust that setting.

It should fix itself when you advance a day, I think. At least that's what I read in another thread.

Just give it time and the problem will fix itself.

I made a three-for-one trade tonight to fill a hole at first, and I got an email from the team's PR department that fan interest had gone up because the guy I just had traded for was so popular nationally. Sweet.

It seems to need a minimum of a one day sim to do it's calculations for this rating. Very nice feature, I'd say!!

Similarly, I converted a league last night that was in the pre-season. I started advancing through the free agent signing days, and signed a top-tier 2B. Got the fan interest increase message for that signing too. I think I'm really going to like this feature.

"Ross Gload:

National Popularity: 0 / 6 (Unknown)
Local Popularity: 0 / 6 (Unknown)"

It's obvious this feature isn't working correctly.

I actually thinkg the Gload code was tampered with in 6.5. I started Gload in my league yesterday and he went 0-3 with 3 strikeouts That never happened before in 6.12. Markus, can you please fix the Gload Code?

I'm simming a league a few years for history purposes.

Guy is the starting right fielder for San Antonio for 12 years, decent numbers.
National Popularity: 3
Local Popularity: 0 (unknown)

Man, what did this guy do to the fans?

Does anyone know why popularity cannot be edited?

I have this one player that is 5/6 National but 0/6 Local....for some odd reason....I like that....I keep imagining...I wonder what someone would have to do to get the people to hate him so much locally but still be popular around the country.

I see the popularity seems to be more nationally and less locally. Seems backwards to me.

Well...in my solo league...I'm getting more players with higher local popularity than national...but in the case of that 5/6 NAT 1/6 LOC guy....he's the teams highest paid player....so maybe that has something to do with it. He is a former MVP but hasn't been very MVP-like for a couple of years now.

It could just be a random event but its feels like in his case....it seems like local popularity is quicker to move up or down than national popularity. He did get a pretty big contract and has underperformed his contract and his previous stats pre-contract. It could be just be a fluke thing....but it might have something to do with.

Perhaps he just put down the team and demanded a trade. Phillies fans got kind of upset at Scott Rolen at the time when he was trying to get the team to move him, though some got upset at him for saying things about the team that the fans had been saying for years... There's no pleasing some people.

Also, he could be the sort of player who puts up gaudy numbers but people who see him every day knows he doesn't give it his all on every play and it costs the team, for example by not running out a ground ball that a fielder fumbles and getting thrown out instead of being safe on an error. Fans tend not to be overly forgiving of things like that. Or he could have arrived in a trade for a popular player, or replaced one, and the fans won't forgive him for not being the other guy. Lotta possibilities, though we kind of have to fill them in on our own.
