Been tryin most of the day...
Ive been tryin to figure out how to make a circle logo and then wrap the text in it perfectly. Looked for psds with it, didnt see any. One of you guys that do it on a regular basis wanna help me out? That way I can help relieve the work load on the board.

this is how I did it in my Louisville contest logo. I'm sure there are other ways, but I know this works:
Assuming you're using photoshop, open a new 150 x 150 file with the background set to black, the transparent color for OOTP Next select the circle tool and then select the 'geometry options' from the toolbar. Set both the height and width to 148. This leaves one pixel blank on the four 'edges' of the circle that come closest to the sides of the sides of the image. I've found that if you go 150, the sides of the 'box' make the the circel edges look flat on the screen. nudge the circle into place with your arrow keys and with the image set to around 300% magnification. It's easy. Place or draw your logo in a seperate layer or two or three, then created two separate text layers, one for the city name, one for the nickname. This allows you to use the 'Warp text' tool to bend the letters as you like. You need two layers because you can't make a circle, you have to make semi-circles and bend them in opposite directions. Use different font sizes and warp percentages until you get a layout that you like. Trial and error will produce the result you want. You can then apply drop shadows or bevels or all the other neat stuff to each layer. At least it works for me. |

Thanks, the hardest thing was warping the text to the right position, hopefully I can get that down and then be fine.

Hows this for a first try...Its for a fictional league based on a fictional island chain discovered in the mid to late 1800s that I am working on and may some day turn into an online league. kcroyals gave me the inspiration, anyway tell me if you deem it to be quality work according to the previous logos from the great artìsts on this board...

something I would ordinarily do, for comparison purposes.
You may be surprised to find out that I am in fact not a "pot head" in fact I dont even consume-a di alcohol...but I do infact enjoy talking in a rastafarian accent while creating di logo for maybe an hour. The team name just went along with the story line, and I liked the ring and figured thered have to be a pothead out there somewhere with OOTP6/6.5/7...

You are doing very well.
#1 is excellent...looks like you been doing logos for years. Look out logo designers, you've got some competition coming soon. |
