Size and length are for sure a plus. But again, if you can produce at the NBA level, then you will find a job and minutes.

You may have to ball out a bit more to prove that you can do it, but if you do it often enough, you will get noticed.

I just think they look too much at what a kid might do instead of what he does do and don't appreciate variety. Sport is uninteresting if everyone does the same thing. Contrast in styles is what makes it entertaining. Using strengths to you advantage. Using strategy to overcome weakness. They are turning basketball into the same boring mess baseball became till they put in changes this year.

I know deals aren't official for a few days and there are a few examples of players over the years opting not to sign with the team they're initially reported to be signing with. I wonder if teams can do the same thing (not that Portland would do that with Grant, that'd be a pretty bad look).

I do not remember this happening unless there is a medical issue or the league finds tampering as it did with Bogdonovic a few seasons ago.

Otherwise, it is a terrible look to make an offer to a play and then rescind it.

And it was an awful contract even before Lillard asked out.

Teams won't do it. But I remember DeAndre Jordan doing it to the Mavs.

It sounded like that was on the heels of Portland keeping the #3 overall pick and using it to draft Dame’s replacement instead of a complementary player. I doubt oversigning Grant factored into the equation at all and if anything all the announcement did, I’m sure, was make public a request Dame had probably made within 10 minutes of the Blazers drafting Scoot Henderson.

I have heard that Lillard gave them 10 days after the draft to make the team better and one of his request was to keep Grant “at all costs”

Clippers to trade half the team to add underachieving cancer James Harden? Ooooh, golly-gee!

(Expiring contracts Marcus Morris, Robert Covington and Norman Powell set to go, Eric Gordon already waived for space, and the re-signed Russell Westbrook sure to be sent packing, given that he and Harden have already proven, twice, that they're a bad fit.)

Can the Clips win with Load Management Leonard, the Brain-dead Beard, and Paul George, who already broke down last season? Seems hardly likely.

I would far prefer Brogdon. However, as Clippers fans all know, we can never have nice things.

(At least we finally got Kobe! 20 years too late, and it's Kobe Brown, but Chokers can't be choosers, right? Sigh.)

It sounds like that wasn’t his only request…

I'd personally give the Rockets a C- for free agency so far, not a fan but I'm not completely against their moves. They definitely overpaid for VanVleet, it was probably gonna take that kind of deal to get him to go to Houston but it's still a rough overpay considering the slight downward trajectory he's been on. The Brooks deal is a lot but it's descending in value and the team's defense was so bad last season they needed an upgrade there; still, gonna be interesting to see how they work out the wing rotation given the existing guys and them drafting Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore. As for Landale, only the first year of the deal is guaranteed so if his strong postseason run was a fluke the team isn't on the hook for long.

But why take valuable playing time away from their young players?

I know they do not want to give OKC a good pick because they own them one in 2025.

But their moves are just bizarre.
These moves mean less playing time for their newly drafted rookies, Sengun, Eason, Smith Jr and maybe even Green.

This not only messes up their cap when they will have to start paying these guys, it also takes away from their development.
