2031 Beer League Playoffs - Fermentation Series: Game 7

#2 Meadowlark Magic Hobo Monkeys (96-66, 5th post season) vs #4WC Scorched Earth Giant Killer (82-81, 8th post season)

In the top of the 2nd, Scorched Earth first baseman Oscar Alvarenga came to the plate with Matt Lindsay aboard. While Alvarenga has struggled at the plate this post season (.132 average), he has managed to pick up some key hits. This at bat was no different as Alvarenga hit a 2 run homer to give the Giant Killer a 2-0 lead. Meadowlark would get a run back in the 5th to make it a 2-1 game, but Scorched Earth would get that back and more in the 6th. Catcher Chris Slovick would crank his 7th homer of the post season, this time with two runners aboard to cap off a 4 run inning to extend the lead to 6-1. Meadowlark would pick up one run in the bottom half of the inning, but that's as close as it would get. Scorched Earth would celebrate a 7-2 series clinching victory to advance to their second straight BCS.

2031 Beer League Playoffs - Brewery Championship Series: Game 1

#2WC Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (91-71, 6th post season) vs #4WC Scorched Earth Giant Killer (82-81, 8th post season)

Sleeping Giant grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when RBI machine Mike Few drove in his 26th RBI of the post season to tie the single season record. That would be far from all the runs though, as both teams put up a 4-spot in the 4th inning to make it 5-4 Beaver Duck. They would trade runs again in the 5th and 6th to make it 6-5, as the game headed into the final innings. In the 8th, with closer Nick Guyan in to try and hold the line for Sleeping Giant, Scorched Earth center fielder Greg Dawson came to the plate with a runner aboard and promptly deposited the next pitch into the left field stands to take the lead 7-6. The Giant Killer would tack on one more run in the 8th to make it 8-6, and that's where it would end, as Scorched Earth took a 1-0 series lead.

2031 Beer League Playoffs - Brewery Championship Series: Game 2

#2WC Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (91-71, 6th post season) vs #4WC Scorched Earth Giant Killer (82-81, 8th post season)

it was a see-saw game, as Scorched Earth jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first; only to see that swing the other way in the bottom of the 1st when Sleeping Giant plated 3 runs to make it 3-1. (One of those runs came off an RBI by Mike Few, setting a new single season post season RBI mark at 27). The Beaver Duck would extend their lead to 4-1 after 2 innings; but the Giant Killer would erase that with 3 runs in the 4th to make it 4-4. That tie would last to the bottom of the inning when Sleeping Giant scored again to make it 5-4. The next two innings would be the Matt Cronister show as he cranked a 2 run homer in the 5th to retake the lead 6-5. Cronister would come up again in the 6th and would drive in two more runs with a single to extend Scorched Earth's lead to 8-5. In the bottom of the 6th, after Jerome Leclercq drew a bases loaded walk to drive in a run (with no outs yet in the frame), making it an 8-6 game; Scorched Earth managed to get back-to-back force-outs at the plate. Any hope of escaping the inning with the lead vanished when backup third baseman Jonathan Dunn connected with a fastball and blasted a grand slam to give Sleeping Giant the lead once again 10-8. That's where the game would end, as the Beaver Duck evened up the series 1-1

2031 Beer League Playoffs - Brewery Championship Series: Game 3

#2WC Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (91-71, 6th post season) vs #4WC Scorched Earth Giant Killer (82-81, 8th post season)

Trailing 2-1 in the top of the 5th, Sleeping Giant's bat finally woke up as they rattled off a series of hits to load the bases. Brian Monfette would come off the bench to pinch hit and would stroke a single to drive in a run to make it a 2-2 game. After Dusty Daniels and Jerome Leclercq failed to drive in any runs, newly crowned post season RBI king Mike Few came to the plate and would double in the left-center gap, clearing the bases and giving Sleeping Giant a 5-2 lead (extending his record RBI run to 30). Scorched Earth would chip away at that lead with a run in the bottom of the 5th, and another in the bottom of the 6th to make it 5-4. That's as close as it would get, as Beaver Duck relievers Brenden Seidensticker and Josh Sandon would shut down the Giant Killer from there to secure the 5-4 win and a 2-1 series lead for Sleeping Giant.

2031 Beer League Playoffs - Brewery Championship Series: Game 4

#2WC Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (91-71, 6th post season) vs #4WC Scorched Earth Giant Killer (82-81, 8th post season)

While technically not a must-win scenario, Scorched Earth knew if they didn't win game 4, they would be in serious trouble. Center fielder Greg Dawson stepped up to take center stage for the club, going 4-for-5 with a double, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored to help lead his team to a 10-6 victory to even up the series 2-2.

(in the losing effort, single season playoff RBI king Mike Few added three more to his tally to make it 33)

2031 Beer League Playoffs - Brewery Championship Series: Game 5

#2WC Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (91-71, 6th post season) vs #4WC Scorched Earth Giant Killer (82-81, 8th post season)

Sometimes one inning is all it takes to make or break a game. For Scorched Earth, that inning came early in the top of the third. Leading 1-0, things started ok for starter Greg Burkel as he struck out John L'Esperance, and then induced Jeff Wright to pop up for two quick outs. Dusty Daniels would get a 2-out single to bring up Jerome Leclercq. He would work the count to 2-2 before connecting on a changeup for a 2 run homer to give his club a 2-1 lead (10th post season home run for Leclercq, just 1 behind the single season record of 11 held by Jorge Zamarripa in 2023). Mike Few would pick up a single in the next at bat to bring up John Pearl. Pearl cranked a 1-0 fastball to dead center for another 2 run homer in the inning to make it 4-1.Adrian Shaw would leg out a triple in the next at bat, but would be stranded as Jeff Stueber grounded out to end the inning. The Beaver Duck would pick up an insurance run in the 7th, and would close out the game with a 5-3 win and a 3-2 series lead.

2031 Beer League Playoffs - Brewery Championship Series: Game 6

#2WC Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (91-71, 6th post season) vs #4WC Scorched Earth Giant Killer (82-81, 8th post season)

Scorched Earth needed a solid game from starter Jesus Rayas, and that's exactly what they got. Rayas would spread out 6 hits over 6 innings of work, giving up just 1 run with no walks and 2 strikeouts before handing the ball to his bullpen. For the last 3 innings, relievers Jeremy Pizza, Keith Miller, and Jim Parrent would each toss one inning, giving up 1 hit between them and no runs. On the offensive side, second baseman Jamie Welch hit a solo home run (his first of the post season), while Greg Dawson would single in the second run of the game for the Giant Killer in what would prove to be the game winning run. Scorched Earth would celebrate a 2-1 win to even up the series 3-3 and force a deciding game 7

2031 Beer League Playoffs - Brewery Championship Series: Game 7

#2WC Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (91-71, 6th post season) vs #4WC Scorched Earth Giant Killer (82-81, 8th post season)

Both clubs laid it all on the table for game 7, bringing in exhausted starters for key relief spots to try and squeeze every last ounce from them in order to win the BCS title. Greg Dawson would kick off the scoring with a solo homer in the top of the first; but Sleeping Giant would respond with an RBI single from, who else, Mike Few. In the top of the third, Sleeping Giant starter Greg Cook would surrender a one-out single to William Gomez; and would be pulled from the game due to a strained shoulder. The Beaver Duck manager would call on starter Guadalupe Sandoval to come in, even though he had just recently started and was far less than one hundred percent. Sandoval would give up a single to Greg Dawson; followed by a single to Matt Lindsay. Gomez would motor around third and slide across the plate safely to give his club a 2-1 lead. Matt Cronister would double off the left field wall in the next at bat, driving in Dawson and Lindsay to make it 4-1. Sandoval would get Vance to strike out and Welch to pop out to end the inning.

Scorched Earth would pick up another run in the top of the 4th to extend their lead to 5-1, and a noticeable hush washed over the Sleeping Giant home crowd. The score would remain 5-1 until the bottom of the 6th. Mike Few would single with one out, prompting a pitching change for the Giant Killer. Marco Figueroa would be pulled for Jim Parrent. John Pearl and Adrian Shaw would go back-to-back singles to load the bases; and bring up Jeff Stueber (hitting a meager .143 for the playoffs). Stueber would single up the middle to drive in Few and make it 5-2. Light hitting catcher Dustin Miller would bat next and single as well, driving in Pearl. Adrian Shaw ran through the stop sign and third and challenged Greg Dawson's arm in center, and would be rewarded as he slid across the plate safely to make it a 5-4 game. Jonathan Dunn would single next to load the bases again, prompting Scorched Earth to pull Parrent and bring in Marco Rivera. Rivera would proceed to strikeout Dylan Thomas and Dusty Daniels to end the threat and preserve the slim lead.

The game would remain 5-4 Scorched Earth heading into the bottom of the 9th. Ken Emon would take the mound to try and close out the game and secure a second consecutive championship for the Giant Killer. Brian Monfette came to bat first and stroked a 1-1 pitch back up the middle for a single to bring the season ending run to the plate. After a called first strike, Dusty Daniels proceeded to foul off three straight pitches before popping up to center for the first out. That would bring up superstar slugger Jerome Leclercq, still just one home run shy of the all time single season playoff mark. Emon wanted no part of Leclercq, though, and would give him the unintentional intentional walk on four straight pitches. With the winning run aboard, newly crowed playoff RBI king Mike Few stepped in. He swung at the first pitch and hit a line drive to center field, but right at Greg Dawson who hauled it in for the second out. The last chance for the Beaver Duck was first baseman John Pearl. He took the first pitch for ball one, and would foul off the second to even the count 1-1. The third pitch was low and away for ball 2. On the next pitch, Pearl saw what he wanted and swung hard. The crowd erupted at the crack of the bat as they watched the ball sail 429 feet over the left field wall, and saw Monfette, Leclercq, and Pearl jumping around the bases, as Pearl blasted a 3 run home run to win the game 7-5, and the series 4 games to 3; for Sleeping Giant's first ever Beer League Championship.

One of the most feared pitchers in the Beer League, Jim Stamey has announced his retirement from the league. Stamey won 20 or more games in 5 different seasons.
