Why bother posting, my last 3 posts were deleted without any explanations. Never seen anything like this and I have been a member of these forums since 2002.

Don't know what you posted? But I know if the mods see posts that come too close to talking about how to beat the system with this that they've been deleting those posts

If it's stuff about workarounds, they're removing all of that and CONN CHRIS has been pretty forthright about explaining why (although of course there's not, like, a sticky). We kind of have to keep quiet about this stuff on this forum because as an official arm of the company, the people who are threatening a lawsuit are presumably reading all this and it potentially makes them come back and say "look, we're evil and hate Korean business and we see that your fanbase has come up with an easy workaround so we need you to code against that workaround or we'll go back to obliterating you like we did at <redacted>."

If you'd like to discuss these sorts of things I might suggest the Discord (which might still be considered an official arm, IDK, but it seems to be a bit more ephemeral) or Reddit (which is the Wild West).

The OOTP Discord is official. Officially. And Reddit, in both new posts and hot posts, has largely moved on. If you’re looking for the entitled, woe is me, but muh free-dumbs set, you’ll mostly find that here.

Agreed. I’m just giving people other outlets in case they’re looking for solutions instead of a soapbox.

Not sure how some of us losing hundreds of of hours of work making a league only to have it scrambled is entitled but then I'm not as smart as you I guess. Maybe move on as well.

Yeah, I know. That was just me venting and being a brat. See, I really enjoy these forums, and I am mostly able to ignore that contingent here (I mean, I can usually laugh at them in private without responding), but this has been a new level of embarassing.

If anyone here clicks the 'who posted' link next to the 'So, when do we get a 24 update?', 'Very disappointing decision 2.0', 'Content Creators/Mod Makers', 'Very disappointing decision' threads they will find that this is just the same 3 or 4 people saying the same 3 or 4 things.

I think you'll find on Reddit , which has a voting system, that the majority of voters agree with most of the posts being critical of this purpose damaging of a product after it was sold.

Bout time for a recap....here's what we know for certain.

OOTP purposely damaged a product after this sold it to us(probably sold illegally) after they were ASKED to by their business daddy.

The update does not only change *** files, but can affect your MLB and fictional teams if they are in the same league. So the changelog is a lie. It is also not random as said in the changelog as most people's leagues are now South African.

OOTP has not said a word since.

Syd is really worried about Markus(but he's probably physically ok)

And that is it. So there is no reason to believe some big baddy is forcing this 'poor lil guy' to do anything. Per the OOTPD posts, everything was done themselves after being asked to.

The way this thread is going reminds me of a thread on a forum I used to frequent a couple years back. The OP was complaining about being banned from the forum's Discord server and it led to a >100 reply thread. Several posters didn't trim nested quotes and I have a screenshot of one reply which had 24 quotes nested inside of each other. This thread isn't to that level but it resembled the nature of this one quite well.

-Added a feature that is unethical and it destroys a part of your personal game, but not only that we thought it was only going to affect this small portion of it but turns out we didn't test due to panic and it could completely randomize data that we actually have licenses for.

Again, I have trouble seeing OOTP as the villain here. In what I understand as a threat of legal action, essentially a kind of extortion, their options were limited. As a lawyer, I would reluctantly have to advise the client, if you can’t or won’t pay the [exhorbitant] premium, then you are going to have to remove the material. Quickly. And yes, without adequate testing or proper regard for the consequences. That’s unfortunately the way licensing works - or doesn’t work.

I don’t disagree that it could and should have been handled better, from the standpoint of those who enjoy playing with that league and those players. But again, if there was no way to negotiate use, the legal advice was probably sound, if brutal to the developers. They were just trying to protect OOTP from liability.

And again, this would never happen, if a reasonable licensing fee could have been negotiated. I am confident that OOTP [or its corporate parent] would have tried to accomplish that. But it takes two to tango, and it does not sound like there was any cooperation on the other side. As in, maybe the league is planning its own game, or granting exclusive rights to somebody else? That’s beyond the control of OOTP and its legal team.
