With the Red Sox coming to town, the Jays have the chance to make some waves at the top of the AL East...

...but not today. They lost to Boston 6-0.

WP - John Danks (7-6)
LP - Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-6)

Record - 42-39

Toronto has now fallen behind Tampa Bay as well. 2 games behind Baltimore for the AL East and 1.5 behind Boston for the Wild Card.

A fourth of July game and it is held in Toronto? Silly scheduling but there WERE fireworks! Pedro Alvarez had tied the game up with a solo shot earlier and the next time he was up, Andrew Bailey came head-hunting. A brawl ensued (and Alvarez got off a nasty haymaker), and both were ejected and received NINE game suspensions!

His wasn't the only homer, though, as Brett Lawrie joined the fun as the Jays beat the Red Sox 5-1.

Some extra bad news is that R.A. Dickey had to leave the game with an unknown ailment.

WP - Aaron Crow (5-2)
LP - Alfredo Aceves (2-5)

Record - 43-39

The win puts Toronto behind Boston by only .5 game for the Wild Card and 1.5 behind Baltimore for the AL East.

Danny Salazar struck out 9 Red Sox batters but his defense made things tenser than he would have liked. Jose Bautista got a big 2-run double to give the Jays the lead, though, and they held it, downing Boston 6-3.

WP - Danny Salazar (4-3)
Save - Rex Brothers (24)
LP - Alex Cobb (7-7)

Record - 44-39

Toronto passed Boston with that win and now have the Wild Card, while still sitting 1 game back of Baltimore.

The second BIG career-ending injury this year:

Bryce Harper has already hung it up and now Ryan Braun has joined him.

As quickly as they get ahead, they fall behind. Toronto dropped a 3-1 game to Boston.

WP - Clay Buchholz (5-4)
Save - Junichi Tazawa (2)
LP - Colby Lewis (8-5)

Record - 44-40

Toronto and Tampa Bay are .5 behind Boston for the Wild Card and 1.5 behind Baltimore for the AL East lead.

The Buffalo Bisons (AAA) and Vancouver Canadians (S A) are both #1 in their weekly power rankings.

Toronto has slipped to #10 in theirs.

Players of the week: Manny Machado, Orioles & Yadier Molina, Cardinals

Oh my...

R.A. Dickey has a ruptured UCL. He is expected to miss 13-14 months.

Zach Stewart is called up to take his roster spot.

Also, Pedro Alvarez and Gordon Beckham are sent back to AAA and George Springer and Leury Garcia are called back up.

The Blue Jays were locked in with a 3-3 tie against the visiting Giants when Trevor Story knocked in Paul Konerko on a fielder's choice in the top of the 10th. Things didn't look good as Anthony Gose led off with a single in the bottom of the 10th but Mariano Rivera handled both Jose Reyes and Brett Lawrie. On the brink of elmination, Jose Bautista came up and blasted a ball over the left-field fence for his 22nd homer and the walk-off, 5-4 win!

WP - Tim Dillard (2-1)
LP - Mariano Rivera (2-3)

Record - 45-40

With most other AL East teams losing today, the Blue Jays are now tied with the Orioles for the division lead!

The Jays signed their top target from the International group... 16 year old pitcher Santiago Gomez of the Domincan signed for $2,680,000.

Four Giants pitchers combined to shut out the Jays 4-0 today.

WP - Matt Cain (4-4)
Save - Sergio Romo (20)
LP - Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-7)

Record - 45-41

The Orioles were inactive so the Jays now trail by a half game, but are in a four way tie for the Wild Card.

Danny Salazar dealt with control problems but his hitters bailed him out. Jose Bautista went deep TWICE and Brett Lawrie once. Bautista now leads the AL in HRs.

WP - Danny Salazar (5-3)
Save - Rex Brothers (25)
LP - Tim Linecum (7-7)

Record - 46-41

All the top AL East teams won.

This was as ugly as it gets, on both ends for the Jays. Seattle smoked them, 10-0.

WP - Felix Hernandez (10-4)
LP - Colby Lewis (8-6)

Record - 46-42

All the top teams lost, oddly enough, so the Jays are still tied with Tampa and Boston for the AL East lead... plus Kansas City for the Wild Card.

Zach Stewart made his 2014 MLB debut and pitched a beauty, but it was Anthony Gose's strong arm, throwing Mike Napoli out at home for the third out in the ninth that kept the Blue Jays' 4-3 win over Seattle.

WP - Zach Stewart (1-0)
Save - Rex Brothers (26)
LP - Brandon Morrow (6-8)

Record - 47-42

All three top AL East teams won, but the Royals lost, dropping them a game behind in the Wild Card race.

Aaron Crow had his second spot start, and it was ugly as the Mariners lit him up for 7 runs over three innings. The bullpen did their job but solo home runs by Gordon Beckham and Jose Bautista was all the offense the Jays could muster.

WP - Matt Garza (3-9)
LP - Aaron Crow (5-3)

Record - 47-43

Tampa and Boston win so the Jays are 1 game back in both the AL East and Wild Card races.

Jose Bautista was the AL player of the week, hitting .421 with 5 homers and 7 RBI.

Steven Fuentes of Bluefield was the player of the week for the Appalachian league.

The Buffalo Bisons topped the power rankings for their AAA league.

The Jays dropped to #14 on theirs.

Corey Dickerson of the Rockies was the NL PotW.

The Angels banged Hyun-Jin Ryu around in the first, scoring four times. He then settled down and stopped them from adding any more... but that was enough as they beat the Blue Jays 4-2.

WP - C.J. Wilson (7-6)
Save - Antonio Bastardo (19)
LP - Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-8)

Record - 47-44

Toronto is now 1.5 games behind Boston for the AL East and 1 game behind Kansas City and Tampa Bay for the Wild Card.
