Pedro had to be shut down in late September, partly because of a sore toe and partly because he had already thrown more innings than he had the previous year, including innings through the WS. I'm hoping he'll be able to be effective for the 4th year, let alone pitch to 45

I gave the Mets my ultimate vote of confidence this week.
I purchased a Sunday plan this weekend. There were other factors than just me thinking the Mets were going to do well this year. We're getting rid of cable, and my wife and I are thinking of starting a family soon, so this year will probably be on of my last chances to pull of something like this for awhile. I've had better seats (Section 23, Loge), but I had a wonderful experience buying a few seats off a plan holder last year, meeting the same people each time, so this year is my year. Go Mets! |

Mets/Dodgers deal
Mets trade Jae Seo and lefty BPer Tim Hamulack to Dodgers for Duaner Sanchez and Schmoll.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2280265 Heilman has asked to start or be traded. D-Rays wanted Heilman in a deal for Baez. Mets turn to Dodgers and get an arm for the pen so Heilman can move to the rotation. If the Mets had gotten Baez, it's just for one year. baez wants to close, not set up and he would have been gone. Sanchez is young and won't be FA until 2009. Scouting reports say he has 95 mph fastball, good slider and splitter with an inconsistent curve. He has decent peripherals and at 25 could still improve. From what I've heard from Dodger fans he could be lights out or blow up. Schmoll has lousy peripherals, even though he saved some games for the Dodgers. An old scouting report says he had the best control in the organization but that was a few years ago. Seo pitched like a god when he came up again in August. His work ethic and his coachability have always been questioned. It was thought that he had turned a corner last year but I guess the brass doesn't think so. With Pedro's toe still a ? I would have thought the Mets would want to keep a quality starter but maybe they want heilman to start even though he was much better out of the pen. I'm surprised Hamulack was dealt. Even though he's something of a journeyman he was one of the few lefties the Mets had. |

Also, Mets sign Brett Boone to a minor league deal. They've been trying to move Matsui and eat 5M but no takers. One unnamed exec says if the Mets eat 6M they'd get interest. Matsui was part of a package for Baez but TB backed off.
Anderson Hernandez, the kid who went 1-18 at the end of the season had a very solid winter ball season in the DR going .307/.352/.386 in 166 AB. He has a great glove and after being acquired for Vance Wilson in the spring had a solid stay at AA Binghampton and AAA Norfolk. Maybe the Mets are close to moving Matsui and Boone will be some insurance for Hernandez and Jeff Keppinger. |

This is slightly more exciting than last years crap for crap trade of Ishii for Phillips.
I'll miss Duaner, he was far and away the Dodgers best reliever last year. Seo looks like he could be a solid pickup, especially if he keeps pitching like he did last year.

He's always seemed to pitch well but last year he showed he could consistently get out of the 5th inning and not be completely gassed. Personally, I think he turned the corner last year and the Dodgers get a fine 3-4 starter, in which case Sanchez better be a good setup guy for Wagner. |

I don't know. I was a bit hyped on Seo after last year and I'm sad to see him go. I guess we'll see if Minaya knows what he's doing.

Remember, Seo has been in the organization for a while. This was the first time he really showed anything.

For God's sake, can someone please tell the Mets to stop wearing those hideous black and blue hats. Thank you.
