Popped up in my head tonight. What happened to Jeff George? Sub average QB. But the prettiest deep ball I've ever seen.

Very true George had an absolute laser for a deep ball.

Well, if it's this Jeff George that you are talking about, he is now 57 and hasn't played pro ball in 20 years. Nevertheless, both New York teams should contact him to see if he is interested in coming out of retirement.

He was/is a big dude. 6 ft 4 in, 218 pounds. Never lived up to his No. 1 overall draft pick, though. Also, it seemed he was a bit of a clubhouse problem.

A lot of a player's careers hinge on who drafts them. The 2nd pick of that draft was RB Blair Thomas. If it was Emmitt Smith, would he be the league leading rusher? I think we can all say no.

I think Jeff George was a pretty good QB playing for a lot of subpar teams. He had a pretty good team in 99, but you had that crazy Rams and Tampa team to compete with.

My wife went to the U of I at Champaign-Urbana in the late 80's. GREAT sports teams. Illinois under Jeff George went to the Rose Bowl, and even their basketball team went to the Final Four, the Battle in Seattle.

You're right about George. First game I went to, I saw him throw a fifty yard pass that never went more than eight feet off the ground. I had never seen that, before, or since.

I always thought Jeff George was a little underrated. I don't really recall him being on good teams in Indy or Atlanta.

Two of the best quotes I've ever heard about a player was about Jeff George.

"He could throw a ball thru car wash and the ball would never get wet."

&

"Million dollar arm, 10 cent brain".

There is a man mountain in the upcoming draft.
Quote:
He is 6-foot-6 and 464 pounds, moves really well considering, and he will be available on Day 3 of the NFL Draft this week. Meet Desmond Watson from the University of Florida, aka the “Tush Push Terminator.”
Watch him in action:

https://x.com/GatorsFB/status/1870638221421580393

Quote:
Watson became a fan favorite at Florida, a status that he cemented in his last couple of games — where he lifted and dropped Tulane quarterback Ty Thompson on a play and then when he carried the ball for a first down in the Gasparilla Bowl. He got NFL teams’ attention when, at Florida’s pro day last month, he bench pressed 225 pounds 36 times — that would have been the most at the NFL Scouting Combine had he been invited. Watson also ran a 5.93-second 40-yard dash and posted a 25-inch vertical jump.
Quote:
Watson is trying to get smaller. The Plant City, Fla., native said some NFL teams have given him a target weight, which he won’t disclose, and that he has already lost 30 pounds after coming oh so close to tipping the scales at a quarter of a ton.
Quote:
As of right now, at 464 pounds, Watson would become the heaviest player ever drafted in NFL history — and it’s not close. Houston Texans offensive tackle Trent Brown (2015) and Baltimore Ravens guard Daniel Faalele (2022) both came in at 380 pounds. If Watson ever gets to don a size 6XL jersey in the NFL, he will become the heaviest player in NFL history. Aaron Gibson, an offensive tackle for the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears from 1999 to 2004, once weighed in at 410 pounds for the Lions.

The two teams I'm watching are the Cowboys and Steelers.
Do the Boys pass on a sexy pick and piss off their fans more
and...
Do the Steelers take Shedeur Sanders at 21?

I'm speechless. After the first round picks by the Giants and Jets, people of New York, meet your quarterbacks for the near future. Like, for years to come.

Giants will be getting their QB in '26. I hate a green QB going into to a lame duck staff.

I like the Panthers WR they got. I just preferred a D lineman or pass rusher

I want to believe that.

The 2026 NFL Draft Quarterback Class Is Worth Waiting for

But to get one of the best, we will have to go through another 3-14 season or worse. And then what. We decide an OT is a better idea for our top pick, so the cycle goes on another year?

The problems with the Giants and Jets picks is this: EVERYTHING STARTS WITH THE QB. You build the team around him, not the other way around. That even supersedes defense. Offense comes first because you need to score points.

The Giants could have gotten a decent pass rusher and the Jets a good offensive tackle later in the draft. The guys they got are very good but will have only a limited, limited impact on team fortunes. A competitive team has to have a good quarterback and both teams have scrubs instead.

W/the Steelers passing on him, Giants might be able to pick up Shadeur in the 2nd 2nd rd pick if Cleveland goes elsewhere

Glad Shadeur didn't go to NYG

Wait, after all the talk of Shadeur going #1 overall, he didn't even go in the 1st round? LMAO.

And Aaron Rodgers (ironically) thought he had a loooooong wait by the phone??

Not a surprise, really. The web sites that I go to had frequent references to Shadeur's "stock" was falling.

Hey, he may turn out to be great. But perhaps organizations sensed what I did about him; a lot of media hype and way too much braggadocio from a guy who really wasn't that impressive on the college level. The NFL is a league of men, not loudmouth boys who haven't proven themselves on the professional level. Regardless of who their daddy is.

EDIT: He would be outraged if he saw all three of us misspelling his name.

And I will stop turning this into a NY Giants thread after this, but I am so relieved that they got Jaxson Dart after a trade with Houston. (After a 3-14 season, I don't even care who or what they gave up for the pick.) Now we have a QB for the future and a great situation with Dart learning for a season or two under Wilson and Winston. Here is the heave-ho to "Tommy Cutlets."

Gosh, I feel so much better than yesterday.

While all of this is true, there is nothing worse than passing up on a potentially great player to draft a bust QB. They did that in 2019. Although Jones wasn't a bust, he certainly wasn't what they had hoped for with the 6th overall pick.

The only South Carolina loss last season that I didn't have a gripe/excuse about was the Mississippi game. Jaxson Dart tore us apart.

Not that the 'Cocks will be in the NFL next season, but I think the G-Men can at least dream.
