I looked it up and I think it was Early Wynn.

Yeah, '67 was Mike McCormick. I just tend to think of the one-Cy-for-both-leagues winners as being pretty much all Dodgers, but that's an exaggeration. Go-Go Sox for the win!
Sigh. |

168. Never a starker illustration of my strengths and weaknesses.
I mean, feed me SenaTwinkies and I'm Captain America. ("I can do this all day.") But, OTOH, I grew up learning a career Ks list that had Jim Bunning in 2nd place…and he didn't even get 2900. Nowadays, who makes an issue of 3000Ks, when Nolan is over 5000? I had no damn idea. I mean, at least I knew not to get cute and try Dazzy Vance, but I honestly went for CC because I wasn't sure whether or not Guidry ended up getting there. And I didn't even think of Randy. (Who would work better as a Yankee, I'm guessing.) The failed ExpoNat guess was Big Sexy. Would Livan have worked instead? I have no clue, clearly. (And despair leads to lazy Patrick Corbin guesses, but i knew that already.) |

67. I could have done better, but at least I'm back to immaculateness. (Immaculity?)
The team pairs were fun, and I'm reasonably proud of the MVPs (Surprised Vida was 5%, but OTOH, rather shocked Stash only cost me 2%.) But I went back and forth about the 3000 hit guys. Do I go for oldtimers who are identified with the club, or moderns who were only there briefly? I ended up splitting the difference. Which I think was the correct tactic, but it looks as if I had it backwards. Seems as though the best score might be Winnie and Cap Anson. Ah, well. (Center square is a Tom Terrific shout-out, of course.) ETA: Do we know if they count the Chalmers and League Awards as MVPs, or just the BBWAA ones? I was tempted to use Ty Cobb for 3000/MVP, but I decided to be safer. Last edited by Amazin69; 07-31-2023 at 01:19 PM. |

After I posted Palmeiro I thought of Brock. I'm surprised he's higher at 38%.

Oh, vomit.
Managed to mix up Rico Carty with Willie Horton (they hit several of the same ancient-DH stops, but only Willie played under glass), despite my 1980 Avalon Hill recall. And that's how you turn 6, perhaps 7, into 106. Did I say "vomit" already? I give myself credit for resisting the urge to put Bouton in the center and using the man he was traded for instead. And credit for hanging in there after the Carty/Horton flub was literally the 2nd guess I made. But still, thin gruel. (And I was surprised that Segura's Anaheim cameo is as well-remembered as it is. Pity, I had hoped to put that to good use in many combos.) Last edited by Amazin69; 08-01-2023 at 01:00 PM. |

New day, new disaster.
Because it showed up at the bottom of the autoprompt box, I managed to click on Ken Williams (155 RBI for the Brownies 101 years ago) without noticing they were actually offering me mediocre OF/substandard GM Ken Williams from 1985-1991. Which is still bullspit, because that guy is Kenny Williams. Can't recall anyone calling him Ken. After that, I just limped home with a trio of lazy Marlins guesses and took my 149 medicine. There's an argument I should have simply tabbed Sisler but still. Highly irritating. (What a waste of Vince DiMaggio. Sigh.) |

You can't make this stuff up.
117 Some fun in the .300 column, worried a bit about Johnny Disaster but felt I had to risk it, was a little boxed in on the ROYs (congrats to pilight for recalling Sarge) …and all completely ruined because I saw the center square, went "Yes! Tony Horton! That should score well!" and then wondered what was going on, eventually realizing that while the Tribe that Horton played for wore a very similar "C", that was then and I'm supposed to know the Asgardians' logo despite quite possibly never having seen them play since the rebranding (except for last season's playoffs, I guess) Ironically, if it were just one half of Ohio, I would have no trouble. But having done the top row already, I had Cleveland still on the brain. I hate senility. And also, Ohio. Sigh. |
