"Finally time to move on" angles reminds me of what politicians say to try to excuse their wrongdoing - i.e. "Oh, you still care about that?"

I'm thinking of investing in a Phillies Phanatic costume. Oh, not for me to wear. I wouldn't think of it.

No, it would be for my wife so as to enhance our phanaticism in rooting for Philadelphia in the upcoming World Series.

Do you think she will go for it?

She's always complaining that the house is cold this time of year — we don't turn the heat on until the first frost. This outfit will keep her warm!

So..which of these two makes you more cranky...

The continuing showing of non-remorse by the Astros, or the busting open of champagne by the old Dolphins players when the last NFL team loses a game?

Without question, the non-remorse of the BlackStros... Full disclosure: I'm a Dolphins fan* (although I wasn't quite paying attention in 1972). Still, while I can see how it might seem a bit obnoxious to some - to celebrate good teams losing - I can also see how they would take pride in a pretty significant accomplishment that hasn't been matched in 50 years. I mean, once another team goes undefeated, what those '72 Dolphins did 50 years ago is pretty much a footnote - no longer unique, and eclipsed not only by something contemporary, but by a 20-0 record compared to a mere 17-0.

And to break it down quite simply, the Dolphins are celebrating a legit accomplishment, whereas the BlackStros are celebrating something they achieved through cheating.

*Yes, long suffering goes without saying...

I keep forgetting there is a WS to be played. I am now more into college football since the college season is going into it’s final stretch.

I think when Joe Girardi was fired the Phillies were 21-29. I could be off by a few, but not much. That's a really bad look for him now that the Phillies are in the WS.

That's like a NFL team firing their head coach midway through the season and the interim head coach takes them to the SB. That has to be off the charts embarrassing for Joe, or any manager/coach in that situation.

Considering that the number of black players has decreased as the number of latin and Asian players has increased, this isn't that surprising.

It doesn't help that there's such a huge gap between the end of the league championships and the start of the WS. It's dumb that they set the WS schedule in stone. But $$money$$...

I read someplace that MLB punted on Sunday World Series games.
Quote:
For decades, Major League Baseball had fearlessly scheduled at least one World Series game on a Sunday night, despite competition from football. Now, for the first time since the N.F.L. introduced Sunday night games in 1987, there will be no World Series game on a Sunday. The World Series moves to a new schedule this year, with the first two games on Friday and Saturday and Sunday reserved for travel.
Last year, Game 5 of the World Series "drew 13.64 million viewers, about 2 million fewer than the competing NBC broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys’ game with the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8 of the season." Going into the baseball game, the Braves led the Astros in the series three games to one, so Game 5 could have been the decider, a must-see event. Instead, many more people chose to watch the Cowboys defeat the Vikings 20-16 in a mid-season football game.

Cold drink - check.

Stuffed toy raccoon to squeeze in tight spots and/or complain with about the ump - check.

Stretches - (stretches for a bag of cookies) - check.

Game 1 can come!

I blame the Mountain Dew for all the upcoming and already-occurred extroversion.

I am only watching the rest of this game to see if he hits one or two or three more.

These days all of the major sports have the expensive travel teams, etc.. Doesn't seem to be holding back blacks from getting to the NFL & NBA.

Not accusing anyone here, but I think some people tend to look for sinister reasons and motives for certain outcomes, when in reality, trends simply are what they are. Maybe the draw of high school (& earlier) hoops & football are simply more attractive to young black kids that baseball is. I mean, how do we know what came first, the lack of black baseball stars to admire and aspire to be like, or the trend towards simply being attracted to football and basketball?

Maybe blacks are more attracted to R&B and rap, compared to rock & pop, than they were 50 years ago. Is that cause for concern?

Two things can be true at once. The expense of travel teams can be too much and baseball is not as attractive to young blacks as other sports.
