a busy week of work & a week in diamond leads to the Nowhere Men being short on updates & OL games. Not sure there has been any notable (& permanent) moves to get excited about...
* ADDED Satchel Paige after pulling Jose Mendez & then buying Bullet Joe Rogan to capitalize. Interested to see if Rogan can man the OF while providing solid relief pitching to help during long stretches. * Completed the team missions & will probably end up using Bagwell, Robin Roberts & Aroldis Chapman from the rewards (not really sure yet). * ADDED Hal McRae due to the low cost of completing his diamond mission & the need for a DH/backup OF/solid bat. * ADDED Harvey Kuen to the roster because I've always liked the guy. We don't foresee much changing in the near future unless we're able to unload a few players we're still not sure of moving. Pleasantly surprised with our progress this far. Nowhere is still in Diamond WC contention, but not expecting much...

After focusing on their fielders for the last couple seasons, the LabRats continue to work on strengthening their staff.
They acquired the rights to Hod Lisenbee, sold him and convinced Fred Toney to join the team. Toney will move into the starting lineup, moving Denny Neagle to the bullpen. Danny Graves has been moved top the reserve squad to make room.

Lucky pull
I had a few card packs sitting, did a few missions for some silver packs, and think I used 10k of my points to purchase 10 packs for fun.
Got lucky! Chicken Wolf... best name ever! 🐔

Bronze Update
Shinbone and Keystone split a four game series yesterday leaving idle Gem City percentage points behind the Stars. Gem City has 13 remaining with Shinbone four. Keystone can be an outlier as their seven remaining are against the two teams a top the standings. They would need a sweep and some help from the Jekyll and Hyde Sugar Hill Gang who have seven with the Bombers.
17 OL games left in the season. Otsego Lake has completed their schedule, as for the rest: Baltimore: (3) at Gem City Gem City: (13) 3 vs. Keystone, 3 vs. Baltimore, 4 vs. Sugar Hill and closing the season with 3 @ Sugar Hill Keystone: (7) 3 @ Gem City, 4 @ Shinbone Shinbone: (4) vs. Keystone Sugar Hill: (7) 4 @ Gem City, 3 vs. Gem City In the PT world Gem City, Keystone and Shinbone still lead their divisions. The story is the race Baltimore is in for a WC spot in the NC. It’s a five team log jam for the two playoff spots. No team is currently in danger of relegation. |

Syrups' Magic Number Down to Two in OL S272
The top three contenders muddled through August, but Waffletown, 1-2, maintained the lead over Port Ruppert, 5-6, and Boston, 4-3. The Syrups could end the suspense early as they have an opening week three-game series with Coney Island, their only remaining OL games. If they win two, they can't be caught. The Mundys and Red Sox meet for three games later in the month, so, if they are still in the race, one is sure to drop then.
In PT play, all OL teams have skirted relegation this month, though at least four remain in some jeopardy of slipping, should they slump a bit. Last edited by Stanley Kuppchaser; 06-05-2021 at 05:51 AM. |

As I mentioned at the end of last week I am going to cease actively managing Sugar Hill for the foreseeable future. I am happy for them to maintain their OL designation it you’d like the team to be a filler at bronze level.
Let me know and I will adjust accordingly after completing the final stats tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Gold
August was Paxville Kings month. Possibly September too. Paxville took 2 out of 4 from the two OL league leaders, Silly Mad and Texarkana, to make the OL league a 3 way race. Silly Mad Brewers are still in command as they only have 3 games against Texarkana to close out the season so a series win likely gets them the title (but 3 teams still mathemagically in it).
In Gold Paxville has been golden and are currently riding a 15 game winning streak!! Bound for glory on the Paxville train. They look bound for the playoffs and promotion as well. Texarkana is in the wildcard hunt as well. Helthwyzer looks likely to be relegated but if they start winning would avoid the shove down to silver. |

Let me know and I will adjust accordingly after completing the final stats tomorrow. I'd say, let 'em keep going. You may be drinking coffee some Sunday and feel like opening some packs with your brew. Then you can log in and spend whatever points you've got and get some. As long as they're compliant, the more the merrier. Be kind of cool if they snatched a crown along the way. As far as "managing" goes, the Mundys signed free agent Eric Davis this week, the first first addition to the team in more than three seasons. I only check the AH once a week, and sometimes skip that, so I don't think you'd be doing that much less with the Warriors on auto-pilot. To be honest, if I didn't like doing the standings and stuff, I'd only be checking in on Saturday or Sunday morning. My FHM 7 save is going along nicely and I'm up to 20 teams, with plans to expand to 24 by the end of the '60s. Last edited by Stanley Kuppchaser; 06-05-2021 at 08:13 AM. |

the Waffletown scouting department picked up two new pitchers for the stretch run, hoping to bolster the staff as the Syrups search for their first championship. Joining the squad:
100 - Sam McDowell (1969) and 97 - Claude Passeau (1940) Justin Verlander and Don Sutton will be sent down to the reserves to make room on the roster. Passeau will step into the 5th starter slot, and McDowell will join the bullpen as a lefty stopper alongside Tommy Bridges who will take up the righty stopper role. |

Rookie
Iron Maiden has the slimmest of leads on Hartford in OL R99. The Wasted Years have no OL games remaining, while the Whalers have six left against Burnside.
Four OL teams are in a playoff spot. The only upside of Rookie is that there is only upside, no relegation. |

However, by selling some of the live cards, Annandale was able to acquire their 4th Build-A-Legend perfect. Tony Fernandez has moved in to play 2B for the Atom Smashers. Other team mission rewards and toppers have also joined the Atom Smashers, most notably Jeff Bagwell and Sudden Sam McDowell. Unfortunately, all these guys have been unable to change Annandale's direction this season, as we continue getting pummeled in Diamond. Unfortunately (for us) I don't think Annandale will be relegated so I think next season will see us in Diamond once again. Last edited by Charlatan; 06-05-2021 at 11:15 AM. |

Waffletown fans hoped that their boys would take advantage of the fact their fate was in their own hands and close things out early with regards to the OL title (especially as the club is still seeking their first crown this season, despite their overall .615 winning percentage). Coney Island had other plans as they dealt the Syrups a 7-5 loss in the opening game. Game 2 extended into extra innings, and meant with Waffletown being the road team that Coney Island could walk it off with one swing of the bat. Fortunately for the Syrups, they were able to eek out a 5-3 victory in 14 innings to keep their hopes alive. In Game 3, Satchel Paige tossed a masterful 7 innings for Waffletown, giving up just 3 hits before turning things over to Sam McDowell (1 inning, no hits/runs), and Bob Locker (1 inning, 1 hit, no runs) to finish off the 4-0 shutout and clinch the first OL crown for the Syrups this season. |

I hope my Red Sox are still in the OL hunt, as they've now won 7 games in a row -- including an amazing 23-inning victory over the Castrotown Goblin Squad just now.
Smoky Joe Wood started, and then ALL 8 members of my bullpen came on in relief, lol. I watched the replay and realized that PT does not use the new rule that puts a runner on 2nd in extra innings. It was 2-2 in the 10th, and only 3-3 by the top of the 23rd. My Sox scored four runs in the top of the 23rd, capped by an RBI single by Lenny Dykstra, driving in that known speedster Bob Boone from second. Dykstra has now hit safely in his 13th straight game. Weirdly, Castrotown scored three runs in the bottom of the 23rd, but I still won 7-6. Verlander got the win in relief.

Shinbone goes wire to wire
The Stars went 5-0 in OL play in April and never looked back. Gem City had had a great season but it wasn't enough.
In PT play we had three division winners; Gem City, Shinbone and Keystone. Meanwhile Baltimore, who had to play a 163rd game secured the second WC with a convincing 10-4 win. Sugar Hill and Otsego Lake will remain in Bronze. With six promotions I will check back this afternoon with final placements of the other four teams.
