If a healthy Johnny Damon loses his CF job to Melky then Yankees fans should worry.

Edit: I just looked up Melky's numbers at BB Prospectus. Didn't realize he was playing this well. Looks like JD's performance is on the upswing as well.

The real fly in the ointment here is Giambi's imminent return. That will upset the balance of things for sure.

At least he's $4m better off losing it to Cabrera than he is losing it to Crisp!

Just had a look at the stats and Crisp is 0.281/0.346/0.404 and Damon is 0.253/0.353/0.356 - Crisp is hitting the ball better than Damon but Damon is seeing the out-of-zone ones better.

I wish I could watch the game today. Hughes comes back from the DL to start the game against the Royals. At least he gets another AAA start before he has to face a real MLB team

Harsh. Besides, your comment demotes Tampa Bay to AA since they are even worse than KC. (Ahh, it feels good to be condescending again, at least to a couple of teams. This is what Yankees fans are all about, right?)

Considering the Yankees first base production, the balance can only swing upward.

And, the Royals are 28-24 in their last 52 games. Does this make Coco a AAA quality centerfielder?

Don't get me wrong, he's still a very good hitter for a second baseman and I think the Yanks would be foolish not to hold onto him. He needs to learn how to take a pitch if he's going to turn into the second coming of Rod Carew that he's been talked up to be, though.
I'm willing to eat a little crow right here. Damn, Cano's on fire right now.

Refreshing. I wish more people would voluntarily do that here.

Me, I'm eating an entire crow, feathers and all, about being pessimistic about the Yankee's playoff chances earlier this year. After all these years of watching baseball, you would think I would know better than trying to call a season in May.

However, I am dining on caviar with Cano and I will be with Cabrera. Listen, YP, he's got great speed, glove, and arm, and he looks like he's going to hit for average. I know you loved Williams, so did I, but this guy belongs in CF. What he lacks in power he makes up for in the field and on the bases.

More crow for me: Wilson Betemit. Umm, maybe I was wrong about him.

More caviar to come for me: Jason Giambi. Watch what happens. I'd be willing to bet my lunch on it, and I love lunch.

1st -- Congrads to A-Rod on #500. Nice to see him get that one over with.
2nd -- I'm loving the fact that the resurgence is partly due to our youngins. Carbrera and Cano have been on FIRE lately. You can even add Phillips to that list. I'm lovin it.
3rd -- Did anyone watch Hughes throw? Did he tire out in the 5th?
4th -- I have some crow to eat for being pessimistic in the beginning of the season too. Playoffs, here we come

He was on fire the first two innings. Then, just looked like he started throwing way too many fastballs, and they lost their movement and velocity in the 5th. He'd be up 1-2 in the count, and throw a fastball which would be hit hard. Needs to mix in more breaking stuff, you can tell that the stuff to be a great pitcher was definitely there though.

Torre said he looked like he ran out of gas. Considering the weather, the emotion of the moment, and his first ML start since May 1, I can see that happening. Not a concern.

What I liked about him in the early innings is what I remember about him earlier in the year. It's a cliché, but he goes after the batters. How great it is to see frequent 0-2 counts, fastballs and curves hitting the corners, rather than the other way around, nibbling, nibbling, 2-0, 3-1.

By the way, the next time Jeter gets HBP, a loose bat should fly out to the mound later in the inning. It's happening too often.

Jeter gets into double figures in HBP pretty much every year. Nothing odd about his current total.

You're right. Something should happen. He should stop crowding the plate.

You guys must have been pitchers at some point in your lives.

I may not be a pitcher, but I have been a belly-itcher for quite some time.

A-Rod's 500th HR

Is this a great photo, or what? They could not have posed for the shot any better than this.
