![]() I had missed that thing in the events. I hadn't checked that much as I had, incorrectly, assumed it just handled that event generator thing. D'OH! Nice picture on the front end now. I'll try the latest version tonight. |

OK, I hope no one went crazy with that last version. I learned an important lesson today. Test the program from the install, not from my working folder.
There were all sorts of problems with the last install. Sorry for any problems. I now have solved those problems and redid quite a few things to make it easier to use. Uninstall any older versions. Erase the contents of the RETIRED PLAYERS folder. You can leave the folder. Install the program. (Run OOTP and generate a report). Launch the program. Click on CONFIG and change the information to match your league, using what I have there as an example. If OOTP is in the default location, then just click the leaguesite location and change it to where you are outputting the reports. Put in the year the league started in 4 digit format. i.e. 2000. Click on SAVE. I eliminated the SET DEFAULT button. I also eliminated a couple other items on that screen. Close CONFIG and click on UTILTIES and select INDEX PLAYERS. When it gets done, it should put the starting league in the Starting Year box and in the ending year it will add 10 to the starting year. Change it to the year of your LAST complete season. Click on INDEX ALMANAC. When it is done, click on NEW SEASON and all is setup. Now, from here on out, at the start of a new season, you just have to click on NEW SEASON. No dates to set, just click and its done. You can now use any of the functions. I fine tuned the player display, now they should all work. 95 percent of retired players should work for gold glove, no-hitters, MVP, etc. The find player button works like a charm. Enter Hank and all players with Hank in their name will be displayed. Also, Larry Hankerson will be displayed if he exists. Click on CLOSE and then click on TEAMS. You have to click on INDEX teams (which I will have it do automatically next release), and it will show a list of teams in alphabetical order. Click on a team and it will show team information in the middle box, including year by year wins-losses, pct, GB, batting average, ERA. It will tell you how many times they won their division. It will show how many times they won the world series and how many times they lost the world series and who they beat or was beat by. It will also list all of the people that hit cycles and also, their total wins and losses totaled up. Not bad for starters. It will also show the #1 and #2 draft picks for each time. Click on a draft pick and a link will appear to the player's stats. His history will also appear in the middle window. Known Issues: Retired players in the draft list do not work yet. If a player's history is missing (I don't know why, but a few are not in the players folder), the program will actually error. Just hit continue and everything will be OK. Some retired players are not shown. I think this is why. I think it is from players that are on no team and sat around without playing for a couple years before they retired. I will fix this by searching backwards through the history to find their last season they played. Some retired players will not show 'RETIRED IN xxxx' in their history. The OOTP program never wrote it. I am no longer going to do daily or 2 or 3 times updates or EXE updates to avoid confusion. I will now have a patch update. You download the patch update and it will just modify the changed files, unless of course I make some heavy duty structure changes, but I do not see that happening.

I don't know how possible this is if even at all or how hard it would be to do, but I think it would be awesome to track a player's development somehow.
All talent increases and decreases as well as ratings increases and decreases.

Right now it just basically allows you to see stuff you can see in the OOTP program, but in a different light. Like teams won/loss record year by year, and more information about teams. Just re-organizing the exisiting data. Further down the line, it will be producing HTML pages to put online as enhancements to online leagues.

I worked out a routine to look into the TEAMS.DAT file and pull out the team abbreviations and it works great! This opens the door for the team page! List of MVP, CY YOUNG, top 5 appearances, ROY, etc. all to be displayed on team page.
I am slowing down on the posting of the latest version. It will be every couple of days. However, if you would like to get the latest version, add me to your MSN messenger or Yahoo messenger and I will send you the latest EXE upon request. I am webcomedian on yahoo and webcomedian@msn.com on MSN.

BUG FIND!
Not in my program, in OOTP. If you create a historical year, like I did for 2000 and you have a AL team and a NL team, they are both assigned the save abbreviation by default. I had to do a work around. Very tricky. What I had was this: New York (AL) New York (NL) Chicago (AL) Chicago (NL) The abbreviations assigned by OOTP were: ny and ny and c( and c( So, what I had to do was when indexing the teams, I had to determine which team was in the AL and which one was in the NL. Since I already had determined the team numbers, that was pretty easy. Take 1/2 the total teams, if in upper half, then team is AL, if in lower half, team is in NL. So, now I can search the boy.txt file (batter of the year) for NY and AMERICAN (both in the same line) and know which NY this batter of the year was. Uh oh.. what happens if your leagues are NOT called AMERICAN and NATIONAL. Ah.. another pain... ok, let's read in the BOY.TXT file and read the first three lines. It it says: 6 2000 Winners <b>American League:</b> CF Victor Marrero, NY, (548 AB, .349 AVG, 39 HR, 118 RBI, 122 R, 191 Hits, 1.032 OPS) <b>National League:</b> RF Dan Milliken, C(, (576 AB, .351 AVG, 53 HR, 131 RBI, 129 R, 202 Hits, 1.124 OPS) Ah, ok, strip away the HTML and then pull everything left of the first : and save it as the league names. Ah, so smart.. and it works!!! Woo hoo!

I redesigned a box score search. You enter part of a player's name and it searchs the box score for all box scores this guy was in. For now, just current year. Will add ability to search prior year box scores.
A new player page is designed. Here is a screen shot: www.sim2005.com/oop14.jpg .

On a roll here. Here is the player page now, with the year by year ratings for the players. This is getting interesting.
Screen Shot: http://www.sim2005.com/oop15.jpg I have not uploaded a new version, as I have not added error checkage for the players or box scores area. .

Reading your stuff, some more ideas:
For the World Series, would it be possible to provide links to box scores and/or game logs for all the games? How about a similar thing for the All Star game? Your comments on the team abbreviations make me glad that I don't have identical names like that, and never do ![]() No more ideas right now

I like the WS and All-star ideas. Not sure if the box scores say anything about it being the WS, so that may be hard, but I may if figured out a way before I even finished this line. The World Series would be the last 7 box scores (or how many games it went), so, the number of games is available, so it can be done. Since the AS game is always game 5000, that is a piece of cake.
The ratings are going well, as shown by the screen shot. Going to finish them tomorrow, putting in ARM, Stealing ability, running ability, range and fielding pct. I think that would cover it. Not sure if putting in talent ratings is worth the effort. Want to sneak in the HOF tomorrow. Then I will be adding the error checking, which checks to see if the file exists before it tries to read it. Then do the retired player checks that are missing (like the #1 draft pick and #2 draft pick). Then I will release the whole version. If you want an updated version, let me know. The only downside of a program like this is just about unavoidable. If you change your league (team names, abbreviations, add teams, even change players names), it will display wrong information. Not much I can do about that. Changing nickname would not matter. . Quote:

with Talent I don't think showing the numbers would matter but it would be nice to keep track somehow of what shows up in the player development file for each team. So you could look at a player and see
John Doe has gain movement. (date) John Doe has gained movement. (date) John Doe has lost endurance. (date) That info may be easier to get since it is in a html file each year.

I BELIEVE the box scores for All Star and World Series are stored with different numbers. It MIGHT not always be the same, but I do believe they are numbered differently. I have some recollection of that. Easy enough to check in the almanac if you're saving all box scores.
I did come up with another idea, but I don't think it's remotely feasible. Like on the Catobase pages, at the bottom of each player page, there's a list of links to similar players, stat wise. I was simming a season tonight and was looking at the league leaders. In hits, HR and RBI, there was one player in each league holding all 3 records for that season. I started to picture these two rivals, and was thinking of some way of kinda "visualising" that. So maybe at the end of every season, like you have the draft picks, also have the league leaders easily accessible, so you can easily pull up the pages of the players who, say, got the RBI title in their respective leagues or divisions. I've mentioned so much in here now, I don't even remember if I'm repeating myself anymore, but where you have like the Cy Young, MVP etc... More buttons So you can pull up, say, the top 10 HR hitters of all time etc...I'm rambling. I need sleep

I don't know if this has been asked, but can this program show the accumulated won-lost records for each team against every other team in the league. I haven't seen anything that could do that just yet
