Quick question for Layton:

I know this is the last thing on your mind but when you start working on face tool for OOTP6, how could you possibly make the faces match the origin without a nations.txt file. I'm just wondering because I like many others refuse to play BM2006. Also, do you have a tentative month for possible release?

nice utility. doing a few changes as we speak. i just can't have a black Ron Guidry and a white Reggie Jackson. other than the proper players of color; which is an easy adjustment, i really enjoy this program.

very nice work !

Glad you're enjoying it. Ya, the ethnicity is based on a %, so any American player is 70% likely to be white, 15% black, etc.

One thing that I might do for the next release is allow you to set certain players' attributes prior to generating photos (so, for example, you can set the player's ethnicity and then have it assign a random face, or even pick a specific face for a specific player so that you can add actual face photos... this is still just an idea in my head though...)

I would really like to host it somewhere else as well, and if anyone can porvide the space, that would be much appreciated. The biggest obstacles are the large file size and the fact that a lot of people are hesitant to host applications due to the risk of viruses. But if anyone knows of somewhere I can host it, I will do so. (EnglishRay, if you PM me your email address I can try to dropload it to you, although I don't know if dropload has a file size limit.)

I have no idea really how to do it at all. It may not even be possible at all. Unfortunately, I haven't even looked at it yet, and I probably won't until at least v1.0 of FaceTool for OOTPBM2006. Sorry.

One last note, there's something I forgot to mention in the original release post:
Using the JPEG logos in uniforms will only work if the background color is black and there is no black in the logo itself (since it will treat black as transparent.) That's kind of key if anyone was planning on using the logos, so I'm sorry that I failed to add that part. Right now I'm working on handling PNG images and if I can get that working then the program gets 100% cooler overnight.

Hmm.... that means that there is some problem with the database engine.

Here's the first thing to try:
  1. In the Program Failes\OOTP FaceTool directory, delete the file "configuration.ini"
  2. Run the program.
The first time you run the program, it tries to create the database alias "FaceTool" which you will need in order for the program to work. By deleting the config file, it tricks the program into thinking that it is the first time you are running it, and so it will try again to create the database.

If that doesn't work, then it's difficult to know exactly what the problem is. The following is a couple of possible causes of the problem, and how to solve them:
  1. The alias has been created in the wrong folder. When you run the program for the first time it asks you to select the FaceTool install directory. If you put it anywhere other than Program Files\OOTP Facetool, then find that folder and click "OK". If it is in the default location, click "cancel" instead of "ok". You may have accidentally selected just "c:\" and then clicked ok, which would cause an error when trying to access the database
  2. There was a problem installing the Borland Data Engine. Un-install and re-install FaceTool to try to get it to install properly. If that doesn't work, try getting it from the Borland website at http://info.borland.com/devsupport/bde/ (you may need to have a Borland liscence in order to download... I'm not 100% sure) If you can't install the BDE, then you are out of luck, as FaceTool requires it. (If you know someone else with a working FaceTool and OOTP, then you can email them your "My League.lg" folder and have them create your photos for you and email them back.)

quick question...

There is an option to generate photos down to a certain level, and it lists levels from Major leagues, thru the minors, all the way to rookie ball. However, how do you generate photos for the winter leagues and international leagues?

Will this be customizable in 1.0 so we can have all-white historical leagues, or negro leagues, etc?

Also, are you still planning (if you were ever were--I think I asked and you considered it) to allow us to set the percentage of hair/facial hair? It would just be a bit silly to have, as an example, an *** full of players with goatees compared to MLB.

GREAT utility - this has added a great deal to my league, plus solved a problem where position place-marks without photos looked way off center in the broadcast screen.

I can see room for improvement, but out of the box this is a HUGE time saver.

Worked for me

It only took about 3 minutes to generate photos for all majors on my labtop.

I only noticed one little bug, which was when I installed the DB files, it told me that I didn't have space on my C: drive, even though I had 63 Gigs free. I just ignored the message and everything worked fine.

Quick question:

I had been using generic photos for my players but now that I've got this tool, I want to convert to the pics it makes. However, the utility won't update the pics for most of my players, presumably because it thinks that I still have pics for them. It edits player_1 and then skips to player_14185. I've since removed the old images from the directory but the program still won't update their photos. The FaceTool reads their pics as locked=True and update_required=False. The only solution I can see is to manually edit these two fields for the 15,000 or so players in my league - not fun. Besides the tool itself, I've tried editing the .db file in Microsft Excel, which is easy but doesn't work (it corrupts the file and the tool won't load it - thank goodness for backups!), and DB Commander 2000, a database editing tool which would still require me to edit each field by hand (i thought there was a mass-edit for columns in DBC 2000, but now I can't find it!). Any tips would be nice. Is there a toggle or option for player pics in-game to try? If there is I can't find it (i think ootp 5 used to have one).

Did you try re-exporting the CVS files from OOTP after deleting the photos?

And only one month into the season after totally turning the team around in my first year with the squad I cut they payrol down from 5 million over budget to 20 million below budget, while still managing to increase the teams win percentage by .060. Then I have one bad month the next year going 12 -19 and I get canned. They asked for me to come back, but I'm just going to take up the reigns in Baltimore now. Cleveland was a thankless job

I want this to work so bad. Can anyone help me figure out why only 90 photos were created in my league. I'm thinking it's because, for active players you need 450 at-bats or 150 IP to qualify for a photo. I have a 16 team league, 126 game season, with 2 years simmed already. Maybe not enough players reached these amounts. I doubt it though, I must have done something else wrong.

Na, This was with MidKnight's tool: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=125278

This FaceTool tool will be more powerful when its done, but in the interm, I'm using MidKnight's tool to create individual players for my own team.

I believe Layton is planning to have custom team uniforms working in his next version.

Suggestion

Hey Layton, one thing I was doing when I made my own players with MidKnights tools was to follow certain rules for accessories.

1) I never gave a bat accessory for a pitcher.
2) I always gave lefties/righties accessories that fit their handedness. So a lefty would always have his glove on the right hand (the left side of the picture) for instance, and a righty would always have his bat over his right shoulder (since this is the direction a bat naturally lays when a righty holds a bat).

It would be cool if you threw these rules into your picture creation.

I actually took it a step further followed the rules below, but some people might not like this schema:

1) Righty Position players always have the righty bat accessory.
1) Lefty Position players always have the lefty bat accessory.
1) Switch hitting Position players always have no accessory.
1) Righty Pithcers always have the righty glove accessory.
1) Lefty Pitchers always have the lefty glove accessory.

This works out nice because then you call automatically tell handedness of a player just by looking at the photo, but maybe some people wouldn't prefer this sort of thing.

Cleveland loses another talent.
The first time you load the game, if it thinks that you already have photos, it will permanently lock those players for editing (even if you later delete those files.) I can't really think of any way to remedy this except to unistall and re-install the utility, delete the photos you want to have changed, and then run it again.

In the next version, there will be some tools for unlocking photos, and I'll also tweak the code so that it checks every time you run it to see if you've deleted the files.

Everyone else, there were a bunch of other questions/comments that I will get to when I have a little more time either tonight or tomorrow.

Great idea. Something about my star pitcher holding a bat in his profile just doesn't look right.

Looks like this is coming along great. I haven't had time for extensive use yet, but it's worked fine in the small leagues I've tested it with so far. I'll let you know if I come across any bugs - keep up the good work!

Just generated players for my entire MLB league (around 9000 players). I wasn't bright enough to time it, but it was pretty quick. No problems
