decided to take a crack at updating Ned Hanlon's facegen, since the current one doesn't have his spiffy 'stache.... turned out pretty good
(old fg, then new one):edit - I do believe the upgraded facegen has lit a fire under Hanlon. He's been swinging a mediocre bat at best since he arrived in Waffletown. This season, prior to the facegen update, he was 7 for 36 (.194 average). With the spiffy 'stache facegen, he has gone 8 for 21 (.381 average).... maybe his 'stache is kinda like that lightning bolt patch in The Natural Last edited by stl jason; 05-25-2020 at 10:07 PM. |

The familiar sound of champagne corks popping filled the Waffletown clubhouse as the Syrups punched their ticket to the post season once again. The club had a relatively strong season (89-73) but one sluggish month (9-15 in July) was costly as they finished 5 games back of the division leader and only managed to secure a wild card spot.
"Just means we have to win one extra game." said left fielder Elmer Flick, who hit a single season career high 30 home runs this season. Waffletown will host the Atlanta Braves in the wild card game. The two teams met 6 times during the regular season, with Waffletown taking the series 4 games to 2 |

and it's a quick one-and-done for Waffletown as they fall to Atlanta.
"probably for the best... don't think we're ready for the Gold tier." said catcher Johnny Kling |

During the all-star break, relief pitcher Ted Lyons took a few days to consult with an old pitching coach from his younger years, in the hopes of getting some tips to improve his game. When he rejoined the team, it was as if he had been transformed into a brand new player.
(narrator note: finished the White Sox Live mission, so 94 Lyons will be replacing 88 Lyons). The new and improved Ted Lyons will slide into the starting rotation. Kid Gleason will shift to the bullpen. |

A rather lackluster season mercifully came to an end with Waffletown ending up at a sub-par 75-87 record. Somehow, that poor record was good enough to put them in second place in the division (far from a wild card spot, but surprising enough that they weren't in last place).
Ned Hanlon was one of the few bright spots on the offense. Hanlon's previous seasons with the club were quite forgettable (high mark in average of .234). This season, he lead the team with a .284 average and 90 runs scored. On the pitching side, Silver King had an up-and-down season compared to his usual performance, but still managed to emerge with a winning record (15-14). |

With an early season infusion of funds, the GM of Waffletown nabbed a new starting pitcher to join the squad, and he's another super old timey player that should fit in quite nicely. Joining the team:
SP - Jack Stivetts (96) - 1891 Johnny Beazley will be sent to the reserves to make room. Howard Ehmke will shift to the bullpen and Stivetts will slide into the number 2 role. He will also provide a potential quality bat (for a pitcher) off the bench should the need arise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Stivetts edit: and Stivetts starts out with an amazing game, pitching 8 innings, giving up just 1 hit, with 1 walk and 11 strikeouts. Hopefully a sign of things to come. Last edited by stl jason; 06-08-2020 at 01:35 PM. |

The GM of Waffletown pulled up the offerings on the waiver wire before taking a break for dinner on the off-chance a deal might have popped up on a solid old timey player. He glanced at a name that suddenly appeared and after taking exactly 2.3 seconds to chew over the price, pulled the trigger. Joining the squad:
OF - Sam Thompson (92) - 1895 Len Koenecke will be sent to the reserves to make room. Ned Hanlon and Baby Doll Jacobson will shift from their platoon positions in centerfield and backup all three outfield positions. Elmer Flick will shift to center, and Thompson will start out in left field to train up his abilities there. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/b3e0fab8 (narrator note: this drops the average year for the 25 man squad to 1910) |

In an early morning transaction, the GM of Waffletown picked up a versatile player who will be able to play/backup every position on the field (except pitcher). Joining the squad:
IF/OF - Deacon White (82) - 1884 Morrie Rath will be sent to the reserves to make room. White will platoon at third base with Heinie Groh, as well as backup every other position to train up his abilities. (team year average down to 1909. Might need to tinker with his facegen.) https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/99417cd4 |

As he sipped on his first cup of coffee, the GM of Waffletown chased the early morning cobwebs from his mind and scanned over the waiver wire offerings. He did a double take of an offer for an old timey pitcher, considered the price over another sip of coffee, and then made the deal. Joining the squad:
SP - Charlie Buffinton (96) - 1884 Bucky Walters will be sent to the reserves to make room. Eddie Plank will shift to the bullpen (and pick up a nice bump in his stuff), and Buffinton will step into the number 1 spot in the starting rotation. https://ripbaseball.com/2019/02/21/g...ton-1861-1907/ (Waffletown starting 26 average year down to 1907) Last edited by stl jason; 06-17-2020 at 09:43 AM. |

It was a roller coaster year for Waffletown, as they burst out of the gates to a solid 21-11 start, but then put their fans through months of up-n-down play (15-13 in May; 14-12 in June; 9-16 in July; 15-13 in August; 11-12 in September). When the regular season came to a close, the Syrups managed to secure the second wild card spot.
"We definitely didn't play up to potential this year..." said shortstop Buck Herzog. "...especially on offense." Waffletown will travel to meet the Bowie Aces in the wild card game. The two teams met seven times during the regular season, with Waffletown taking the series 4 games to 3 |

Huzzah once again! Waffletown wins another Daily Gold RR tourney!
Wire-to-wire without a loss. edit: 92 Justin Ruggiano from the diamond pack.... nice card but doesn't fit the team theme, so hopefully he'll bring in a little bit of funds for the war chest Last edited by stl jason; 06-15-2020 at 05:11 PM. |

In a minor move, Waffletown sent down Eric McNair to the reserves, and brought up George Grantham to be a backup for the infield and outfield positions.

A nice find by the scouting department has provided Waffletown with another quality bat. Joining the squad:
OF - Mel Ott (93) - 1937 Baby Doll Jacobson will be sent to the reserves to make room. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/3974a220 |

The Waffletown scouting department has been working overtime this season... and while this find doesn't technically fit the pre-1945 template, management has decided he is close enough (and besides, how can you pass up this one?). Joining the squad:
C - Yogi Berra (100) - 1953 George Gibson will be sent to the reserves to make room. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/a4d43fa1 |

Another bus pulled up to the Spile and offloaded a single person... yet another find from the scouting department. While technically he isn't a first baseman by trade, management feels his offensive skills warrant a shot at training there to get him in the lineup. Joining the squad:
IF - Larry Doyle (88) - 1912 Stuffy McInnis will be sent to the reserves to make room (the last silver card in the starting lineup, and still performing well; so if Doyle doesn't cut the mustard, McInnis could make his way back to the team). https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/3b7d0b88 |

Thanks to the recent infusion of funds to the war chest, the GM of Waffletown was able to nab a deal off the waiver wire to bring aboard a new, yet old timey, pitcher. Joining the squad:
SP - Old Hoss Radbourn (97) - 1884 Gordon Maltzberger will be sent to the reserves to make room. Tony Mullane will shift to the bullpen and Radbourn will join the starting staff. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/83bf739e (Waffletown average year for 26 man roster down to 1906) |
