I've never really liked Goalies playing the puck, even when they were allowed to do shoot it up. But now that they are restrictred with what they can do with it I think that there is very little reason for them to go out and play the puck. I just think the chance of a mistake or them getting striped of the puck and not being able to get back in the net in time by far out weigh the benefits of the goalie playing the puck in the "new NHL". I think more often than not it's better if they don't touch it and let the defencemen do their job. I don't think it helps much in most situations and it's just asking for trouble. And goalies who have to change their grip have no business EVER going out to play the puck. They have to just not do it, or learn how to shoot with their off hand. But that's always been a pet peeve of mine, and under the new rules even more so. There's only a few goalies who were good enough with the puck that I am ok with them playing it in some situations, but 90% of the goalies out there should do it considerably less.

Talking about Brind'Amour reminds me of a few thing. First off one of the things I realyl liked about NBC's coverage, they showed some nice stats during the game. Their "information bar" at the top of thescreen (shows score, time left, etc) was great. It's a single line showing name of city their number of goals, then next team their goals, then the period and time left. If a team has the power play then they put the time left in the PP under the tema with the PP. Then whenever Brind'Amour was on the ice under Carolina they showed a timer and under that the word shift (thye wre showing hoe long Brind'Amour has been on the ice for this shift). Same thing for Pronger except under Edmonton'.s Great idea. Didn't take up much room on the screen, never distracted from the game but was a great bit of info to show.
Looks like CBC finally started putting up the score line constantly, but with only minimal info. For years they refused to do that, and their announcers rarely stated the score so you'd only find out what the score was and how much time was left when they broke for the commercial, blah. I believe they kept doing this up until 2 years ago.

But to say Bob & Harry have dropped off this season... That would suggest that they were ever any good. I've hated them for as long as I have been watching hockey. I don't know if they were announcers in the 70s and if they were what they were like then. But even has a kid in the 80s when I first started watching hockey, I knew they were horrendous announcers. And they certainly aint getting any better.
I pretty much disagree with everything above...

???

CBC consistently has the time & score in the corner throughout the game, and have for as long as I've been watching hockey. Sure there are some instinces where it is missing, but that doesn't happen very often.

Anyone who complains about CBC's commentators needs to learn Finnish so they can get acquainted with the morons we have to listen in hockey broadcasts.

You've gotta wonder why Mr. Magoo is doing still doing games. Didn't he blow enough calls in game 1 to get the axe? Guess not...

as for Harry Neale and friends, or as they're tagged outside Laff Nation, Toronto's bandwagon broadcasters or the like. It's a running joke when your'e watching Laff games, and especially Toronto-Ottawa games, that these guys have insane man-love for the Leafs. LIke cripes get a radio gig in Toronto and let soemoen that knows what they're doing have your job; preferably someone without the extreme bias.

Sicne this is CBC, that's not happening. They known where their bread is buttered and it's in Toronto. Sad really, beause they have good announcers, they're just usually supplanted by these dinasours that think it's still 1967 or something.

Used to be that when watching hockey, you'd grab the Canadian audio, and slap it on say ESPN or NBC or what not for the video as it was immensely superior. True HDTV and hockey is just superb, compared to what that fuzz-o-vision is that CBC pumped out. If it's changed it'd be nice, but since CBC is funded by the government (last I checked), change is slow Sad, because I really like HNIC other than the crappy main annoucers and the first period old married couple argumentfest(aka Don Cherry looking like a bad used car salesmen and about to have a heart attack).

Sigh....

A couple of things I've noticed during the first 2 periods:

1. Pronger has been playing like crap. He looks slow, uninterested, and careless. No way he should play 30 minutes tonight.

2. The Edmonton power play makes me think I'm watching Team Finland. Jesus H. Christ, to say it's not working is a huge understatement. They're still trying to get the puck to the blue line and shoot from there, hoping that the only thing Ward sees is a huge butt with the text "Smyth 94" above it. If all it's given you in 11 periods is one short-handed goal in your own end, don't you think it just might be time to try something else?

3. I saw the ad for albertaquits.ca in the boards around the penalty box, and my first thought was "What, does Alberta have an independence movement too?"

And I thought the Quebec thing was just Frenchies being disagreeable as usual. I really should learn to blame Canada.

It's an ad for a quit smoking campaign/system.

unlike the Quebec one, the Alberta one has extremely little support. It doesn't hurt that the guy in charge is from there.

Great game last night. Special teams really made the difference for Carolina, as both goaltenders were sharp again. I almost think we should try to keep Edmonton on the power play for the entire game Wednesday night.

Disagreeable? Explain. Also, we're not really Frenchies, just like Americans aren't English.
