Whoever had "3" just won the How-Many-Juvenile-Dances-Will-Lofton-Do-In-The-Dugout-After-A-Homer pool.

Have you ever watched something on TV that completely embarrassed you even though there is no one else in the room?

Oh yes.... 8-5.... and Sturtze on the mound.

As a big Jay fan... I am well aware of how well Sturtze can blow up

Wow, what a game.

8-7 New York, Rivera coming in, but tying run 90-feet away.

Good to see that run heading back to the dugout!

This is Game 1 of a seven game series where the sox throw out Pedro Martinez, Bronson Arroyo and Tim Wakefield in games 2 3 and 4. Where the Yanks throw out the likes of Jon "i've never been in the postseason in my 120 year career" Lieber, Kevin "I'll get injured walking to mound before the 1st inning" Brown and Javier "I crack under pressure consistantly" Vazquez?

The sox are in good shape.

Is Wakefield going to start Game 4 even though he pitched tonight?

This is what kills me about people. It's a 7 game series, and you don't base the whole series off 1 game. It's the Yanks-Sox, you know better than that the 1st game makes the series!

I thought before the series the Sox would win in 6, and I still think they will. The Yankee pitchers got hit hard in their Twins series, what makes you think Jon Lieber, Kevin Brown, and Vazquez are gonna pitch as fortunate as Moose did tonight?

I think the Red Sox know they're gonna beat the Yanks, and came out tonight a little to ready and not focused on the task at hand.

Hey, but the spank-me's got Derek Jeter. Wasn't it amazing how he made that routine fly ball catch. It's plays like those that really show how much of a professional he is. He was made for this situation and it shows through how he does all the simple things right. Heck, he helps the Yankees score even when he's on the bench. Yep folks, he's that amazing.

Uggh. Why is it that everyone like him so much? I don't get it. He plays horrible defense, with minimal power and a decent average, and everyone thinks he's some sort of demi-god. Red Sox will get pitching over the Skankees and will make it an interesting 7 gamer.

I've been trying to answer that about Jeter for some time now... an average fielder with some pop in his bat.

I think it is the "ball bunny" effect... you know... all those young females who watch baseball for the players, not the sport. They elevate Jeter to this level....

I think everyone understands and accepts that most Yankee fans will never shut up.

The Yankees lost the last 4 1st games in a row, and won 3 of those series, so it really doesn't matter who is playing who. I think most people are surprised the Yanks won last night, which is why you hear all the chatter. I wasn't sure about the health of Schilling's ankle, and I knew Mussina was looking sharp, but damn, I never expected THAT sharp Schilling being hurt puts a crack in the Red Sox' armor for sure.

This series is by no means over, but I am VERY happy to see they took game 1. Should be another fun one tonight.

The other thing I noticed is everyone, even me at times, are focued on the starting pitching. I don't see them deciding this series. The offenses, and how well the bullpens shut them down will decide this series IMO. Mussina pitched great last night, but it was still the Yankees bullpen and their offense tacking on 10 runs that won that ballgame last night .. not Mussina.

I've developed a forumla that proves the Red Sox will be tied with the Yankees if they win tonight. I am prepared to release it to the general public shortly.

I think Sox fans get about as much comfort out of this game as they could after a loss. The lineup looks like it can carry their pitching, and they still have two games of Pedro left. Torre had to use Rivera in the 8th, and the Boston bullpen is a lot better than it was last year.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel. The Sox of old would've rolled over and died in this game. Instead they made sure Mussina didn't even get a quality start, let alone a perfect game, and came back to make a contest of it. This team showed that they are never out of a game, especially against the Yanks mediocre pitching staff.

They gotta do it. I don't know if I could watch another World Series with the announcers getting all gooshy over Derek Jeter.

"Look at his eyes, so calm under pressure!"

Well... that "glassy" look could also be interpretted differently...

"Look at his eyes, you can tell he's so bored!"

"Look at his eyes, his mind isn't even on the game!"

"Look at his eyes, he's thinking about his next commercial shoot!"
