Totally agree,AJ was dominant in a must win situation.Pedro was good but that Matsui homer was a killer.So far in this year plus run,nobody has ever gotten out of Philadelphia,here's to hoping the Yankees don't either

Oh yeah,one other thing,Girardi is terrible.He should never have taken Burnett out in that spot,nor should he have put Posada in.Who would have caught if Posada was injured....Girardi himself?

Another great pitching game.

This was probably one of the best performances from Burnett I had seen, and it could not happen on a better day for the Yankees who really needed this victory.
I enjoyed watching Pedro pitching well.
I loved the look on his face when he left the game.

I agree Girardi is terrible, however, taking Molina out and putting Posada in is not why I believe that. I think people over react just a bit with saving your catcher on the bench because of injury. They needed a big pinch hit there for an insurance run and he gave them just that and only had to catch for 2 innings. The chance of a injury there is a risk worth taking with only two innings to go.

I agree, nice to see games not being decided by errors or absolutely hideous calls by the umps. The two calls missed at 1B, were normal close missed calls.

All around I thought the umpiring was great in the first two games.Both home plate umpires were fair and consistent,and the guys in the field made all the right calls(like you said,the two at first base could have went either way,and both teams got a break there)

Not sure if hes still on the roster but at least in the first 2 rounds, they had the #3 catcher, Cervelli, on the playoff roster also.

They dumped him and Freddy Guzman for the World Series, replacing them with Bruney and Eric Hinske. So they only have two catchers right now.

100% agree. Putting Molina in at all was the problem. Though you have to give Molina credit for picking off Werth at first base. That could have been big.

I am not a fan of either team. This series has been really well played so far. The pitching , CC, CLee, AJ, and Pedro were great. The defense (minus the one error by JRoll late when the game was decided) has been outstanding. The hitting hasn't been too hot, but when they are not striking out, they are hammering the ball. The umps have been fantastic. Both calls last night were close but who could blame the ump on that one. They all got together and none of them saw the ball hit the ground and the Utley play is going to be called out 90% of the time. As a fan of Baseball this is what a World Series should be like. Lets hope for 7 games!

And one more note, Mariano Rivera is nasty.

One question about Rivera,being an NL guy I don't get to see him too much.Is it common for him to come into the game in the 8th inning? Burnett was pitching so well,that I was really surprised to see Girardi take him out.

It's not common at all actually. During the year, Hughes and Chamberlain were reliable enough to depend on till the 9th. They have been getting clobbered in the playoffs so Girardi doesn't trust them any longer. As for Burnett, Girardi was blasted for leaving AJ in too long during the Angels series so he's not about to make that same mistake again. Plus, there's an off-day tomorrow. With the 3 games in Philly, I doubt we see too many 2 inning saves out of Rivera so we can only hope that Chamberlain, Hughes, Robertson and/or Coke step it up. Pettitte probably won't last more than 7 innings, so we'll see in game 3.

It is very uncommon in the regular season. It isn't out of the ordinary in the playoffs however. Torre used to do it sometimes. Girardi pitched Rivera two innings in Game 6 to close out the Angels. I don't imagine it will be the last time you see it either.

Molina's pick off was one of the great defensive plays of the series. They almost got a double play out of it

During the regular season, very rarely Rivera might come in for a 4 or 5 out save, if the reliever before him got into a jam. However, very rarely did he come in to start the 8th. However, for the playoffs it has not been uncommon for him to get the 6 out save. I also think its the difference between regular season where the bullpen blowing a game isn't world ending, whereas in the playoffs if your bullpen blows a game it can be a huge swing in the series. It also showed how important last nights game was. The yanks NEEDED that win, and girardi wasn't gonna mess around with anyone other than rivera.

So Manuel says there is no chance for Lee to start game 4. Blanton is scheduled to start tomorrow. Should be interesting if the Phils lose tonight, if Manuel sticks to it. It's gotta be tempting with the way Lee dominated in game 1.

No chance manuel doesn't stick to it, he's not the type of manager to ever back away and change his mind once it's made up.
