This is a good idea, but do it with 6.5. That would make some money and draw in a lot of new people into the OOTP Nation.

Even better, make OOTP 6.5 available free on new computers - do a deal with Dell, HP or whoever. Interested people who liked the game would want to buy the current version.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

I just checked and even though 6.5 is now two full versions back, SI is still selling it for full price.

SI needs to drop the price of 6.5 to next to nothing.

Like chippered said, that is a great idea! I wonder how difficult it is to negotiate something like that. You're giving them (the computer companies) added value for nothing, so why would they object? They might still want money for it, though, because otherwise a lot more companies would probably do it.

Actually they pay for the software they include.

License 6.5 to them for a very small fee, and sit back and watch OOTP Nation grow.

It's a little off the topic but does have to do with selling the game in the future with an "in-store" release. If you look at the poll, at least at the current time, almost 17% of buyers found the game in a store under the "Season Ticket" title and that hasn't been in stores since 2002(?). If in 2007 17% of users, that post on these boards, found the game in-store what was the percent of users in 2002? 40%? 50%? Who knows but it seems at one time a significant number of posters had found the game while shopping in a real store.
In support of this, I will repeat what I said on that thread: The percentage would have been even higher for "Found Season Ticket Baseball in a store" had I originally included it in the poll. Andreas thought of it and added it later, after some people had already voted and posted.

Merely speculation on my part, but I would imagine that these big computer-making companies get approached all the time by hundreds of small-time and start-up businesses looking to make a name for their products in this way. Think of it; it would be like the golden fleece of marketing to pull off a coup like that, instant name recognition and Dell/HP endorsement by being shipped on all those new computers. Given the relative bargaining positions, I would really doubt that the computer manufacturers would pay SI for the privilege. Much more likely the other way, if it were feasible at all. If anything, name recognition would have to come first IMO before any such bundling deal were to be possible.

How on earth would it hurt to try?

By all means. It's highly unlikely, IMO, that's all.

I see that a 'stathead's ultimate baseball sim' banner has now been added at this site. Good job.

I think some of the advertising for the game is good, but might not be targeting the right audience. I see that you are targeting major league baseball fans, but the game really doesn't cater to major league baseball (no real rosters).

I'd focus more on baseball sites that don't necessarily focus strictly on MLB.

Today I saw Dynasty League Baseball being sold at the local computer store for $19.95. Dynasty has no - repeat no - AI whatsover. None.

Yet on the front cover of the game box it reads:

"GAMES best new sports game"

"GAMES Magazine award winner"

"Featured in ESPN Tourney and CBS"

"Baseball's Monopoly on Realism" (I kid you not, it says this)

and

"'Dynasty League Baseball is, without contst, the most realistic baseball simulation on the market today' - Greg Salvatore OFFICIAL Arizona Diamondbacks Magazine"

Some questions:

What hasn't GAMES heard about OOTP 2007 yet?

What hasn't ESPN heard about OOTP 2007 yet?

What hasn't CBS heard about OOTP 2007 yet?

Why doesn't OOTP 2007 get blurbs like this from offical baseball team magazines?

And, most important, why was this game, from a small publisher, on the shelf in a major computer chain store while OOTP 2007, which is published by SI and owned by SEGA, is not?

I think Dynasty League Baseball gets blurbs because they run sims of MLB matchups with it. It seems most of those articles online on their site was based on some simulation they used for an article. OOTP isn't really focused around major league baseball much anymore.

Just saw a TV advert for OOTPB 2007 during the Red Sox/Yankees coverage on NASN.

Had to pinch myself, thought I was imagining things!!

I'm guessing you've done this already, but with the London connection, I'm sure Channel Five baseball in the UK would at least mention the game on air. Those guys seem pretty accessible.
