So where is the right place to discuss what's the right time to make a joke about Corey Lidle? Or is there a guideline somewhere? I know there are a lot of subtlties in this issue, but we are like having this same argument every time someone is dead.

Very shocking and very sad.

Now onto the less serious side ... anyone see the pics of Alec Baldwin at the scene screaming at the cop what was that about? Did he want to get on record as being the first one to blame the crash on Bush?

Why don't you go to OT and start the "Cory Lidle Joke Thread" and that way if someone doesn't want to see those kinds of jokes they can stay out of it. Then it keeps this thread as one for a more serious discussion.

I remember when the Mets lost Lidle in the expansion draft back in 1998. I thought it was their worst loss in that draft, since he had shown some promise with them. While his career wasn't stellar, it was solid enough, and they probably could have used him in the intervening years a bit.

Sad to see him go.

Hmmm, maybe you can start a "Guidelines for making Corey Lidle joke" thread first. If people can reach some kind of concensus there, then we might follow. At this stage, your idea might actually be against what some other people want.

I really wanted the Twins to sign him this offseason. On a related note, Lidle was in the Twins system 1990-1993.

I should know better than to respond to your trolling. I thought for once you were trying to be helpful to the forum.

(What's the proper decorum for frowny faces in a case like this, btw? One total or one per victim? I don't want to overdo it, but I also heard that the more respect you show on an internet forum when someone famous dies, the better a person you are, so I don't want to come up short, you know?)

It doesn't matter what two other people want...and now three including you.

If you can't take a hint...

First ,you must acheive respect before you can loose it,so i dont think you have anything to worry about.

Wow, just unbelievable. A plane crash in Manhattan and Cory Lidle dying in a plane crash. Each of those are amazing. But for them to be the same story? Jeez. My heart goes out to his family. Jeremy Schaap just said the family was in transit on an airliner and have not been told yet.

This was an interesting quote, taken from the New York Times:

Quote:
Mr. Lidle had been a major league pitcher for nine years.

He earned his pilot’s license last off-season and tried to assure everyone that his CirrusSR20, a four seat plane he bought for $187,000. was safe.

“The whole plane has a parachute on it,” he told The Times last month. “Ninety-nine percent of pilots that go up never have engine failure, and the 1 percent that do usually land it. But if you’re up in the air and something goes wrong, you pull that parachute, and the whole plane goes down slowly.”

Those of you who pray, his wife's name is Melanie and his son's name is Christopher if you want to include them on your prayer list.
