Yeah, I would also agree with the 2 other posters. The rosters are great and the development of the veterans is more or less a major flaw in the game. The sad thing is that most veterans don't lose much in terms of ability as they age. Maybe some speed and power but otherwise veterans are the core of any quality team. You rarely see upstart rookies winning World Series. Look at the Yankees and D-Backs. They win with guys that wouldn't have any ratings at all in this game. I think this is a very important aspect in the game that needs to be addressed. There is no way Bonds goes from a .300 60 HR hitter to .160 12 homers the next year. Not unless one arm falls off.

I'm not sure if this was fixed but a couple players like Mike Sirotka, Kevin Orie and Rod Beck were either not on the Cubs team or on other teams.

GForce, I have quick correction you need to make to your rosters.
David Cash (San Francisco Giants) was traded to the Chicago Cubs right as Spring Training was ending. He's still on SF's AA roster. |

In the rosters, Sirotka is on the Toronto Blue Jays, Orie is a free agent, and Rod Beck is in Chicago's AAA team. So it looks like Sirotka is the only player that needs to be moved. |

Hmmmmm.....I didn't see Rod Beck in the version I have. Sorry about Orie, I thought he was with the Cubbies. |

I was just going off the HTML report that GForce posted in the first post of the thread. That's the one that will be released tomorrow.

Just from looking over the report...
First, some of the improvements are noticeable, such as Cirillo's split between L/R pitchers. Just a few constructive criticisms and injury heads-ups... Ryan Anderson: I don't know the exact timetable, but he probably won't see action until June. Jamal Strong: torn labrum, out 4-6 months. Matt Thornton: Also has some injury issues, I think his timetable is about the same as Anderson. Randy Winn: needs LF range. He is the M's leftfielder. This is a minor issue, really, as anyone can fix it in about two seconds. Gil Meche: He's gotta be at least AAA ready, but probably even ML ready. 0 is far too low. Seems like you based the rating solely off of his injury recovery in 2002. Evel Bastida-Martinez: Name is too long for OOTP field. Jose Lopez: He's nowhere near ready for AAA. His talent could stand to be a bit higher relative to others in the organization (Juan Done?) Kaz Sasaki: Don't know if this counts, but he doesn't appear to be 100% healthy. Of course that's just my uninformed opinion. ![]() Ismael Castro: I know he's probably not 18 or 19, but -1? ![]() Shin-Soo Choo: Nowhere near ready for AAA. Actually, I think he's still in High A ball to start the year.

Oh, and, don't know if anyone knew this, but after looking around for a while, the days for a season ending injury are 255. Not sure if there are any players in this set that have a season ending injury, but just throwing that out there.

One more thing: (yeah this is probably getting annoying)...
Mike Cameron is getting doubly punished for playing at a pitchers park. I recommend that you park adjust his stats a bit, or else his stats, already bad because of Safeco, will be lowered even more by Safeco. Paul Byrd is out for more than a week. I've actually heard timetables as much as half the year, but someone will have to confirm that. Alexis Gomez is not a 5 star prospect. He's an average prospect, and nowhere near that good. BA rated him #6 in the Royals' organization, which is by no means a good minor league system. This one's really a minor issue, but Norm Charlton had a career ending injury about two years ago. ![]() Okay, that should be all of it ![]() Great work on everything, g, I'm looking forward to the set, and some of these things I have here are probably just too minor of concerns (besides the negative age), that's alright. They are things that can be customized by any user. The hard work is appreciated, g

Charlton was in camp and was released March 20 because of persistent pain in his shoulder. I will cut his ratings and make him prone, but since he's not retired he's on free agent, exactly where he should be. Other ratings issues are debatable to say the least.
As for Alexis Gomez "He resembled Carlos Beltran with similar tools but less power...he's improved every year and should continue to do so in AAA in 2003". He's a better prospect than you say, though I did tone him down a bit for current abilities. I'm trying to get a few park factor adjustments and wrestling a bit with the old veteran issue. It won't be perfect but I'll do what I can. The rosters won't be out until late tonight. Easter festivities all day and still doing testing. It will be very late Eastern Time, probably in the 11:30-midnight area. I'm going to try my best to touch up as much stuff as I can. And like I said, there will be a very quick CSV update, probably by Wednesday. Thanks for the continued support guys. GH |

what I've been trying to do is basically vastly overrated older guys, figuring they will have the OOTP age effect hurt them and hopefully yield a pitcher who is remotely accurate to how they should perform. I seem to have gotten Barry Bonds OK. But look at these older guy examples and what happens.
Clemens my rating: .233 vs L, .212 vs R Result: 5.47 ERA, released July 7 Wells my rating: .217 vs L, .264 vs R Result: Released by the Yankees before the season started. Signed late in the year by the Dodgers, went 0-2, 1.71. Maddux my rating: .237 vs L, .222 vs R Result: Now a 1-star pitcher in September, but stayed with the team and went 12-6, 2.88. Not bad, but it looks like 2004 would be shot. R. Johnson my rating: .174 vs L, .184 vs R Result: made it through with Arizona...11-8, 3.79. Not good numbers for him, but not the 5 ERA he put up initially. Schilling my rating: .222 vs L, .204 vs R Result: now a 3-star pitcher, went 10-8, 4.63. Anyway, just some more things to look at. I'll do what I can for tonight, but the first csv update will likely be age factor stuff since that's a big issue right now. I think I can fix it though, just not by tonight. GH |

Wow, sounds like your doing a great job and I'm looking forward to your rosters. The only change I'll be making to them is boosting up Mark Priors ratings a bit. This guy is looking like a Cy Young winner this year.

I boosted prior's potentials, but his currents are the same.

Shouldn't Josh Phelps of Toronto have some rating for catcher since he did catch in 8 major league games and usually when he was a minor leaguer. It doesn't have to be a great rating, but he should at least have something. Also shouldn't Juan Cruz have a little better potentials being he is dominating out of the pen and has Pedro/Dotel type stuff. Some of the same also goes for Carlos Zambrano

I spent all day yesterday setting up and playing with the Pre-Release set sent to donors, but I've decided I need to restart with the real deal. What am I supposed to do today now? ![]() BTW, thanks so much again for the time invested in this project.

Man, they better be good
I've gone the month of april without playing ootp5, just to be able to use a new set of rosters. My thoughts were, why play it now, when in 2 weeks, i'll restart my season, with new rosters. So I hope these rosters are worth the wait, and can't wait to use them.
G-Force, keep up the good work, I appeciate it!

Yeah I don't see how people are playing this game without Geforce's rosters. I personally would never play a historical league or a fictional league.

Thanks, g. I can customize those to my liking, so it's no big deal.
Anderson, Strong, and Thornton are injured, though. Just for realism's sake, don't want Anderson or Thornton coming back from injuries too soon. Is Castro the only player who is -1?
