I lose the last game of the set as Don Newcombe gets outpitched by PHI John Buzhardt.
But we do win the series 2-1 and that does get us to 42 wins!
So I do achieve one objective.
We are better than the RL 1962 Mets.
But not by much.
Even with three errors committed by PHI we still cant win.

We sweep the Cardinals @ the Grounds.
Robin Roberts pitched his best game yet.
The bullpen made it interesting but they closed the game out.
George Banks got himself an Inside-the Park HR, his 8th on the year.
Everyone got a hit in this game, even Roberts.

The 2nd scheduled game that I was supposed to play was rained out.
Meanwhile, Stan Musial will retire at the end of the year.
It was nice to have him on the Mets for one season and it was an honor.
Lifetime average of .331, 446 HRs and over 1800 RBIs.
He might get into the HOF someday.
Yeah...on his FIRST ballot!!

I get a rare win over SF.
Lee Gregory did his job and even though the Giants kept chipping away at this lead, we manage to hold them off.
George Banks hits his 10th HR of the year.
Gordy Coleman got a little physical arguing balls and strikes though and I lost him for 4 games.

We do steal one in the series from the Dodgers.
Don Newcombe does get his 2nd win on the year and George Banks hits his 11th HR.
We are officially eliminated from the playoff race, however, o one had us predicting getting out of the cellar anyway.
Still, with some pretty decent players in the lineup and if we can improve the pitching, 1963 might be a little better.

We play the makeup game versus PIT and Bob Shaw was outstanding.
Donn Clendenon hit his 2nd HR of the year as I probably managed the best game with the Mets this season!

I think from now I am just going to put the screen shot of the 3D stadium for each game instead of also including the box score.
It will make the report faster and it wont make it so busy.
If anything interesting happens that I feel the box score needs to be shown, I will post it.
In this game however, PHI John Boozer out shines Johnny Podres and keeps us from scoring runs.
PHI Bob Lipski had two HRs as the Mets lose the rubber game.

What a marathon of a game.
Thanks to George Banks, we hold off the STL Cardinals for our 50th win on the year.
We brought up some players from the Minors for roster expansion, so Tony LaRussa, John Moffett and Jackie Warner among others get a chance to play.

We lose a tough game to the Pirates.
Don Newcombe just did not have it again and we fell behind too quick.
But we did split two double-headers and we now have 52 wins on the year.
57 is the magic number because that's what the PrePredicts said we would have...but is 60 reachable?

A great pitchers duel between Lee Gregory and HOU Bob Bruce goes deep into the game.
But Don McMahon gives up the big HR in the 8th as we fall to the Colt .45s.
We do win the series 2-1.

We give it our all versus MIL, but we get pounded anyway.
Robin Roberts just does not have the stuff and Freddie Burdette gives up 4 HRs in a row to MIL Aaron, Matthews, Adcock and Dietz.
But we are at 54 wins and we just need 3 more to match the PrePredicts.

The Mets win a series over CIN 2-1 @ the Grounds.
Lee Gregory pitched very well and some good hitting from Walt Hriniak and Luis Aparicio gives us a 5-3 win.
Now at 56 wins on the year, we just need one more to make the PrePredicts come true.
60 wins is still possible for our 1st season.
Can we do it?

18 innings!
The longest game I have ever played in OOTP.
Nobody wanted to win this game until I brought in Don Newcombe who just gives up the losing run.
Good news is that we get our 57 wins.
We need 3 wins in our last 8 games to get 60!

We take one from the Cubs at the Grounds.
19yo Robert Bishop, making his 1st ever start, completely handcuffed them.
He went 6 innings and only gave up only 4 hits.
A HR by Gordy Coleman helped things along also.
We have 58 wins now and need just two more for 60!

We take a game from the MIL Braves.
The Mets went deep 4 times including back to back to back HRs by Triandos, Burke and Richardson.
George Banks went deep also.
Bob Shaw had a pretty darn good game.
With one series left versus the Cubs in Wrigley, just one more game is needed for a 60 win season in our 1st year.
Can we do it?

The CHI Cubs beat us in extra innings, but we do win one of the final three games which gives us a 60 win season.
Ill take it and I know my owner will too.
Not a bad way to start off our Mets franchise and maybe with a some good draft picks and a trade or two, maybe we can get 65 or more wins next season.

Here are the goals after 1962.
Well, we were an expansion team so were we really expected to perform well?
I think 60 wins in our 1st season was pretty darn good despite all the talent in the NL this year.
He doesn't like Gordy Coleman but I do.
He hit .287 last year with 15 HRs.
He is also one of the better fielding first baseman out there.
I could try to upgrade but I feel that there is no need to.
We might play closer to .500 ball next year and I will see what the draft pool looks like.
We now have 5 minor league teams this year with the BUF Bisons, Salinas Mets and Raleigh Mets joining us.
Lets see how the offseason shapes up.
