The game would have to be rebuilt from scratch...which is what Paul Norman proposed. His efforts produced TB2013.

Even if a career option was not feasible, surely one or two minor changes would be possible. For example, a filter for the auto scheduler that would let you exclude fighters who lost their last bout due to a KO a certain number of days ago.

That would mean that SOMEONE was working on this game. The item you mentioned and just some of the DB issues would have made a world of difference. NOTHING is being done and I've stopped playing because it becomes too tedious to watch out for the errors. As we come into the age of AI, I can only hope someone comes up with something that can replace this favorite of ours. And I hope the first person they consult about it is CAP!!!!!

Well, I have now been retired for a year. I'm sure Cap is also retired. I doubt that anything will happen within our lifetime.

Me, I don't care about any AI-driven 3D razzle dazzle. Just the ability to sort things a little better, filter things a little better...

My imagination can do the rest.

I don't play very often either. I started up the game yesterday, but did not run a single fight in my long-running fictional LW uni. I started it up because someone mentioned Friday Night Fights up in the OOTP sports discussion section.

Sure looks like there won't be anything coming from Mr. Norman. This game is verging on the archaic and it would take a new owner with money to burn to resurrect it. Don't see that happening.

Too bad. So many missed opportunities to capitalize on the increased popularity of the sport which may now be waning.

My first apartment way back in the 80s was above a laundromat. The guy who owned the building was always hard to reach. If you were "lucky" enough to run into him on a day other than rent day, he would always grin and walk quickly away, muttering "Don't worry! I'm gonna get this place fixed up!"

Of course he never did.

Paul reminds me of that guy.

I mean, at this point he just abandoned the project. It sucks but it happens. I'd love to get ahold of that codebase but I imagine people aren't going to want to give it up so easily.

But that has been the excuse for how many years now? It just doesn't make sense to buy rights to a project (I assume he purchased the rights to TBCB) and then put that project away and do nothing with it.

Paul hasn't posted here in the basement since 2017. His last post on the PISD board was 2021.

Because this section of the OOTP forum truly is "the basement" I wonder if we should create a TBCB Facebook group, if there isn't one already. Someday the OOTP forum will be reorganized, and since this game is not supported in any way this fun little basement will probably be dropped.

I hate Facebook but would really like to maintain contact with all of you who still come here. What would be the best way to do that? A private Facebook group or exchanging emails or something else?

I know Javier is on Grey Dog's forum for their MMA games.

Time to start collecting empty beer bottles again. If we pool our resources I'm sure we could come up with at least $14 and change to buy back the rights and ask our buddy, Syd to do some pro-bono work and add one or two bells no whistles....

I asked Andreas once about the logistics of building it from scratch and did a spit-take when he told me what it would cost. (Root beer stings when it goes up your nose).

I wonder what the rights would cost. If Syd could add just a couple little things on top of the existing code...

I have something called Boxing Manager on my phone, and it seems fairly good, but I don't like the idea of playing such a game on my phone. Everything is just too darned small for my 66 year old eyes.

If someone revived TBCB and added a couple features I would even pay full price for it. But no 3D graphics, please! I love the in-fight images as is.

Ah, one can always dream.

The Beterbiev fight made me fire up my old TBCB 2.5 fictional lightweight save. I ran a few cards and it was a lot of fun. My reigning Global Boxing Authority champion was almost defeated.

And reading some of the universe threads made me start looking for my old historical HW universe. It's on a CD somewhere. If I remember correctly, when I left off I was just about to run a championship bout with John L. Sullivan and somebody or other. My historical HW universe was "historical" except that there is no color line.

I am promising NOTHING haha. Seriously I’d have to look at the code to see how far off it is. I’m guessing it’s not super close, otherwise there would have been more movement on it. Also I’m sure it’s not written in a language I use normally (C++ is what they use in OOTP I think) although that’s not insurmountable. I’m worried that the little demo we got like 7 years ago was probably stepping around something big…

Just curious, Syd. Would it be possible to add one bell and half a whistle to the 2.5 version? I think TB2013 is a mess left alone.

My guess is that that is written in some ancient, bygone version of some language and would be harder than updating TB2013. At my current job I'm working on updating a system made in the early 2000s and we're basically having to rewrite the entire thing, part by part.
