I'll look tonight if I can. I'll post later or tomorrow. It can be done easily enough.

Go to where your game is INSTALLED (not where your saved games folder is located; my saved games folder is in My Documents, the default). On my machine, the game is installed here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 13. In that folder, there is a folder called data and in that one there is a folder called skins. So the complete address is C:\Program Files (x86)\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 13\data\skins. In the skins folder are three more folders corresponding to the three skins available in this game. Drill down into each of those to the folder called images. Now the complete address is C:\Program Files (x86)\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 13\data\skins\ootp 13\images, where "ootp 13" in that address could also be "ootp 13 classic" or ootp 13 dark." In each of those image folders, you will see the original player_mood and player_status icons that come with the game. You should copy over the contents of the zip files in Bobble's thread over these files. Don't change any file names! Do the same for all three skins. Now the important part. Nothing is going to happen unless you rename or delete the skin.bin file in each skins folder (that is, each skin that you intend to use with the new icons). Go one level back up to locate this file; for example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 13\data\skins\ootp 13. Either rename it, say, "skin_old.bin," or delete it if you feel lucky. Skin.bin is the file in which the game imports all of those images and combines them into the skin that you use in your graphical interface. By deleting it, or renaming it, you force the game to rebuild the file the next time you start the game, using that skin (NOTE - it may take a while). The game takes a snapshot of the new mood and status icons and includes them in the skin interface. So, you no longer see happy/frowny faces for player moods; you see cool thumbs instead (I show four of the six below). See below. Actually, he had some rather fine seasons and he was a very good player. He just wasn't the superstar that I expected when I first saw him.

Follow up to the posts on Bobble's icons:
1) Back up the images folders before you do anything. 2) While the mood thumbs are still great and work well with OOTP 13, Bobble's player status icons, upon closer inspection, probably are no longer an improvement on what comes with the game IMO. He did do these a few years ago, after all. The only game default player status icon that I don't like is the "cold" status icon. For that one, I would substitute this (the file name is "player_status_cold.png"):

Based on those VORP/WAR numbers, guy should definitely be in the HoF.

Hmmm. 7 seasons of 100+ RBI. 9 straight seasons of scoring 100+ runs. 12 straight seasons batting .288 and above. Eight time All-Star, one MVP award.
I'm warming up to the idea. Anybody else think he's HOF-worthy?

He's right on the line. For a player defined (pending fielding stats) primarily by his bat, his counting stats are weak. His offensive rate stats are quite good, but not HOLY CRAP AWESOME good. Based on the spread between his VORP and WAR, it looks like he ceased to be an excellent fielder after his age 28 season, and was actually a liability from age 32 onward to the end of his career. I think his offensive numbers put him right on the borderline. If he was an excellent fielder in CF or RF for most of his career, then I think I'd put him in. Since he had two distorting home fields in his career, from one extreme to the other, I'd focus on OPS+ here. A career 136 OPS+ would make his closest comps who are active players Travis Hafner, Matt Holliday, Adrian Gonzalez, and Josh Hamilton. I would not call any of those players definite HOFers, so I think we need to see how the defense compliments the offense. Using B-ref, his career WAR would put him right in between Ken Griffey, Sr. and HOFer George Davis on the All-Time list. His rate stats are really good, but not great, and when you combine those with 398 HRs and 2442 hits, I'm not sure he's a HOFer. Let's see the defensive stats. |

It also depends though on how players at his position in that era performed.

Well, that's where the defensive ratings help us as well, I think. "His position" could have been CF, RF, or LF in his prime. A bunch of +10 ZR/+1.05 EFF years as a CF in his prime years would tell me a fair bit more than having some same numbers in LF. If an era just happened to have other awesome CFers playing at the same time, I wouldn't hold that against this guy. I think OPS+ and the fielding ratings would do a fair enough job of comparing him to his peers in a vacuum anyway.

I sent the mood icons to OOTPmods.com, Bru. Thanks for the push to make that happen.

His war is almost identical to Ken Griffey Jr (Probably a first ballot guy). When you compare him to a Paul Molitor, who was primarily a DH, he has an additional 7 WAR and an OPS+ advantage (136 to 122). You can make the same comparison with Robin Yount (War 72, OPS+ 115). Those guys both had 3,000 hits (which is importantly, apparently). If you want to go with guys who didn't hit the counting stats, you have Johnny Bench (72, 126 OPS+) In fact, there are 0 Hall of Famers with a WAR above 75 that are no in the hall of fame who are eligible to be (Rose, Bagwell, Glavine, Mussina, and Grif Jr). The fact he put up those insane WAR numbers without playing long enough to put up the counting stats is impressive. He had 10 consecutive seasons over 5 WAR. His stretch from 37-39 is incredible. Guy is a hall of famer. EDIT: Forgot bags was eligible this year. Last edited by Sven Draconian; 01-25-2013 at 10:07 PM. |
