Yes. I fail to see what the Big Ten Network, and its initial inability to convince cable networks that it is worth paying for, has to do with an overall declining popularity of college hoops and mediocre TV ratings for regular season games.

Hell, the NCAA Championship game last year barely made it into more living rooms that that night's episode of Dancing with the Stars.

Whatever college hoops is doing right now isn't working compared to what it was doing 10 years ago, or compared to how other sports are doing.

Easy solution. Dont watch it then. Move on find something else to spend your time on.

They seem happy CBS sold all their final sponorship package at the end of February. The finals last year drew over 19 million viewers. Its the 2nd most bet on event in sports and other than you I havent heard complaints.

Whether jbergey22 has heard complaints and whether there is a problem are two different questions. The advertising money won't last forever if the trend continues. Telling people who have turned away to simply not watch college hoops if they have problems with it is not the solution. College hoops should be trying really hard to get viewers like me back interested.

You havent given a solution you've only said you've lost interest. It really hasnt changed much in the past 20 years so what exactly has made you lose interest? The 64 team field has been in place since the 70's, the 3 point line was implemented in 1987, and most conferences have been running conference tournaments for 10 years now. What has changed that makes you dislike it?

PS Your graph only represents the championship game not college basketball as a whole. The interest level on one particular game is heavily influenced by what teams are playing. Also, the downward trend seemed to start when DirectTv and the Dish became popular meaning more competition for CBS, which at one time was one of only 3 main channels most rural areas would get. Since 1999 this graph has stayed fairly consistent.

I think it's safe to say nobody expected six overtimes, or the level of drama the UConn-Syracuse game provided. In fact, people deciding what game to watch might well have thought it was a sure blowout and switched to a different game. This has been a week full to the brim with basketball, both college and professional.

In an unrelated development, Portland is hosting some first and second-round games in this year's tournament. To get that privilege, Oregon had to give up their popular football-based lottery game several years ago. There is still some dispute on whether it was worth it.

By the way, the conference tournaments are continuing to wreak havoc. When it seems that schools like Baylor and Arizona State are possibly going to win their conference tournaments, that's another "bubble team" that doesn't get an at-large bid -- because schools like Washington, UConn, Pitt and the like will be taking up at-large spots.

Selection day tomorrow is going to be interesting. The only Northwest schools certain to be in are Washington and Portland State. Oregon and OSU are right out. Washington State is probably out too.

In 1989, the lottery added Sports Action, a parlay game allowing wagers on National Football League games. Play in Game should have been on CBS because ESPN doesn't show the Tournment and been played at the Team with the better record in the game home Arena.
They should only be one number and they would play the 64 team and this year all of Louville's games should be played on their home court becuase they are the top seed in the Tournment and the second seed would play at their home court but not if they meet Louville.

There would have to have CBS College Sports show live Games and maybe ESPN too because it would be at more then one site like Louville,UNC,Pittsburgh,Con.,Memphis,Michigan State and so on meaning like Louville plays Morehead Satte not in Dayton but in Louville and so on.

So you want the first 2-3 rounds of the tourny to be a snoozefest? Im sure CBS would love the idea of seeing their ratings drop in half for the first 2 rounds because of the uninteresting 75-60 finals in 85% of the games.

I filed out a bracket yesterday on ESPN.com (not for anything, but just to do it) and I had memphis winning the title over North Carolina by a score of 72-69.

I'm probably going to be wrong, but I do think Memphis is going to win, in part because of the chip on their shoulders from being a 2 seed when they should have been a 1.

northridge is better than one would expect, i've seen a couple of their games. I'm not suprised they were able to hang around.
