Anyone checked out Adam Wainwright's numbers this year??

You think you have a bad pitcher? Wainwright gave up four runs in five innings the other day, and his ERA went down.

80 runs on the year, against 44 strikeouts. When was the last time you saw a pitcher give up almost twice as many runs as K's?

5%. FIVE PERCENT, swing and miss rate on strikes in the zone.

Line drive rate? 29%. 16 bombs in 77 innings.

Saving the WHIP for last . A buck ninety-nine.

1.991

Oh wait..let me add a MINUS 2.5 WAR, lowest in MLB for ANY player. Only one other player is worse than 2.

Stephen Strasburg to officially retire.

I can't help but think back to how careful the Nats were to watch his innings so he could have a healthy career for the long term. If there could be a silver lining in all this, maybe they will stop with that nonsense.

Stras was I think the 9th highest paid player this year. So much talent. Sucks he was never quite able to turn into a superstar (arguably).

Ironic that Strasburg's retirement is announced on page 37.

Mets (59-69) have been caught by Washington, and can take sole possession of last place as early as tonight.

Yankees (61-66) are 6.5 behind Boston, dead last all alone.

The Cellar Series is ON, Bay-Bay!

(For those who don't follow the NY team threads, this will be the first time ever that NY teams have both finished last.)

Also…

Atlanta 105-57 (projected)
Mets 75-87 (projected)

Lot of $$$ to finish THIRTY GAMES behind, Uncle Stevie!
(Enjoy "retirement", Buck!)

I'm confused. If Strasburg chose to retire why are the Nats on the hook for his contract?

I kinda wonder what the point is of the moneyball-type approaches are with teams like the A's, Pirates, etc. Seems like it's a cyle of developing prospects to where there about to break out and where they can't afford them, then trading them for future assets, which turn into prospects that they develop... and eventually can't afford... and then they trade them... I mean, they are basically just a farm system within MLB...

A's were competetive in the 2000s and are relocating. The Pirates need new ownership.

*sigh*

Ima spoiled Cardinals fan. It's been 110 years since they last lost more than 93 games.

I really, really thought that by July 15th, they would go on a 12-15 game winning streak & get back in the hunt. I'm just not used to the Cardinals being less than a footnote to a season.
