Frustrated by the legends' inability to train, Nowhere courted & signed Richie Hebner to a FA contract as a multi-position backup. The "grave digger" will be putting down his shovel for a bat this summer to help the Nowhere Men stay fresh. A much-needed lefty bat & (somewhat) capable in the field, anything he adds as a potential platoon mate with Alou will be gravy.
The move also allows for the recall of Otis Nixon as a late inning thief, defensive replacement & sparkplug. The locker room hasn't been the same since his demotion ![]() ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYnmAiH6BLo

That's fine.... just make sure you sweep Nowhere Men in the series after the all-star break, ok?

Don't mean to be too contrary, but I thought the demise of "training" was one of the big improvements this year. It just seemed so gimmicky and unreal to me to have so many players moved out of their historical positions and bumping guys who played their careers to the side. They might as well have been fictional players. The fact that it gets Richie Hebner onto your team is a terrific unintended consequence. He might not have gotten a run otherwise. |

Since BFF relaxed their needing to declare prior to opening packs requirement I'm going to move Chandler over there next week, so I can try out that league as well. They are off on their own at the moment in silver so shouldn't impact anything.
Looks like Cedar Rapids is about even in OL competition thanks to a good run against Sugar Hill to make up for the dismal record against Cary. We're on a 10 game win streak now with no OL games in sight for the rest of the month. Hopefully there will be some new acquisitions to announce from the front offices tonight as we have some tournament packs waiting for the new content drop.

I agree 100%. I love it. I have a couple guys that wouldn't be around if not for their versatility. huge change from last year & much more realistic.

Well, Nowhere Men I guess have really decided to go "Where" "No" "Men" have gone before. With a record of 23-2 against all opponents in July (6-0 against OL opponents), they are sending a solid "No Where but me" message about "Where" to look for the best OL team (an overall record of 79-25 on the season doesn't hurt either!)

Texarkana welcomes Steve Rogers, Jim Vrain, and Jose Mendez to their stable of pitchers. The front office appears to be entertaining moving Mendez on the auction house, but his value is quickly falling so they might just keep him on the staff.
Another recent addition to the Tornadoes, Brooks Robinson, has begun to finally settle in at 3B and get above the Mendoza line to .265 after a rough start in June.

Southpaws Hold Onto Lead in OL I222
Cary turned in a 4-3 month to hold back the Nowhere Men, who logged a 6-4 record. Waffletown slipped to 5-8, while Port Ruppert was the hottest OL club, humming at a 7-2 clip to climb above .500 and into fourth. No OL teams face relegation at this time.

Would love to see Coney Island play .500 ball today. They have been punching above their weight. Starting the day with two vs. The Syrups in Waffletown will be tough, first because of the juiced ballpark and second because of all the good bars around the Spile.
Sugar Hill is Sugar Hill, as theme team early on in PT play there isn't a lot I can do with them right now. They had a decent start but seem to be playing at level I would expect. Hoping they both have a little luck this weekend with cards and coffee-last weekend was pretty much a bust for both teams. Coney Island management may loosen the purse strings a bit this weekend and dip its toe in the auction house. we have set some priorities but will go with best available at the right price |

Waffletown management is keeping an eye on the waiver wire market for any potential affordable upgrades to the squad, as they have amassed a decent little war chest (but would trade it all for a little more
). They are hoping their dismal month of July (12-13) will just be a brief blip on the radar, and they can get back to the winning ways to get primed for the post season. The hard part is finding that nugget for the right upgrade. The team is still highly ranked across the board (1st ranked in runs scored, batting average, on base percentage, OPS... which isn't really surprising considering the offensive-friendly confines of their home park). What is a bit surprising is the pitching and defensive rankings (2nd in runs against, 1st in starters ERA, FIP, pitching WAR, and zone rating; 3rd in errors, 5th in bullpen ERA). |

Stone 132 Update
It's a three-way race in Stone, barring any last minute surges. OL teams still hold 6 of the 8 playoff spots. Right now it appears that 5 or 6 OL teams will promote. Nobody is terribly close to relegation.
Apologies for not providing an update yesterday. I forgot, then I remembered, then I forgot again. That's the way it goes sometimes. Last edited by Charlatan; 04-23-2021 at 08:55 AM. |

In their continuing quest to corner the market on middle infielders, Annandale has acquired Marty Marion to go alongside our earlier acquisitions of Ray Dandridge and Joe Cronin. Not sure how I can play all three of these guys... maybe move Cronin to 3b, play Marion at ss, and Dandridge either a super utility or a mediocre 2b? Though it makes more sense to play Dandridge at 3B and make Cronin the backup if I care at all about defense.

Gettysburg Breaks Plan and signs Nomar Garciaparra (99-SS) To Replace Solly Hemus (87-SS)
I don't know if it was itchy fingers or what, but sitting on 18,764 PPs - Nomar sitting in the Auction House for 1200 PPs less than average - and not being sure i could find anything better on Saturday, I bit the Bullet (pun intended) and put him on the team in hopes of squeezing out a wildcard spot (2.5 games). Another factor was Solly was playing exhausted since there was no backup...
