Chisholm was the only guy on base when men need to be on first and second, at least, to have the IF fly rule to be called.
Correct. Runners need to be on 1st and 2nd. With a runner on first only, I remember Ian Kinsler in particular would watch the guy out of the box and if he was dogging it he would drop the pop up and grab a quick double play.

The speed of the ball coming in does contribute to the exit velocity. It's known as energy transfer. So basically the ball coming in has its own energy, but when the ball is hit and redirected, that old energy doesn't all disappear in an instant, some of it gets redirected. EDIT: It doesn't add that much, however, a lot of the energy is lost in impact. Bat speed plays a much bigger role. There's even a known formula for it. I like how one professor put it, 85% comes from bat speed, 15% from pitch speed.

There are lots of cool videos on all sorts of science to do with baseball. Just search for "physics / science of baseball".

The Marlins' starting pitcher today is junk. Literally, his name is (Janson) Junk.

Be hilarious if he only throws fastballs…

The Yankees have been exposed as a team of mediocre players at best, aside from Judge and Fried. They don't hit for average, the starters are so-so, the bullpen is atrocious even after recent trades, they don't play well defensively, and they make bonehead baserunning mistakes. Oh, and they are lead by a fellow bonehead who would be lost if the hard drive on his laptop failed. Other than that, they are fine.

Okay, that made me laugh out loud way too much. One of those yeah it's funny... but there might be a bit of truth there too. Thanks for the laugh.

Yes, I would laugh, too, if I did not feel like crying instead.

But I am working on it.

The Yankees are one of the reasons why I am trying to get beyond narrow sports team rooting to a new level of Pan-Sportsism.

That is a very good question. These clowns, with their tablets and printouts chock-a-block with analysis and statistics, are digging their own graves. You would think that they would play up human empathy, imagination, unpredictability, and ingenuity needed to manage a bunch of humans that still play a human game, but no.

Heh, they all toe the Sabermetric line and follow the latest statistic driven tactics. And yet, they still drop like flies when their teams don't win it all in a very short timeline.

Your point is well taken. Frankly, we are already well past the point where we need human umpires, coaches, and managers. We may yet witness the AI transitions for these unessentials. May you and I not live long enough to see cyborg ballplayers, however.

I am not going to say that there is any hope for Aaron Boone, because there isn't, but today he did something unusual for him. David Bednar, who may be the only worthwhile relief pitcher obtained in July, was doing well in the eighth and Boone let him come back for the ninth. He even let him stay in after giving up a walk and a single and a personal mound visit. Bedard gutted it out and struck out the final batter.

Now, I am sure the printout said to bring in Camilo Doval or Luke Weaver, or Mark Leiter, or, heaven forbid, Devin Williams to pitch the ninth. Bedard's arm might get hurt! Weaver has an opposing batting average of .212 when pitching to Texas Ranger players on Wednesday afternoons. Williams has an 65.7% chance to actually do his job once in his next five outings. Etc., etc.

Instead, Boone used his brain and b@11s to actually take a chance and go with the hot arm. It was you, Aaron, who made this decision? You weren't in the men's room at the time?

Oh, wait a minute. Doval, Weaver, Leiter, and Williams were all used in yesterday's game. Across the top of every front office printout, I am sure, is "THOU SHALT NOT USE RELIEF PITCHERS ON CONSECUTIVE DAYS" in capital letters.

Gee, Boonie, you were in a tough spot, weren't you? Well, going by the book worked this time. Besides, even if Bednar bombed, you had an excuse.

Might Be Wrong Thread to Put This, but...

it is related to MLB, or more specifically, MLB dot com and all of it's teams individual sites. If not right place, sorry, my bad.

I want to go check the Nats roster to see the names of those responsible for this awfulness that is the 2025 Washington Nationals. I go to their team website and.... I couldn't find it. So, I went to every other team in the National League (didn't try the AL so don't know what the situation is there} and sure enough, they have all ROSTER listed near the top next to the Team Logos as a clickable link. See for yourself:

https://www.mlb.com/braves - 6th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/marlins - 6th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/mets - 5th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/phillies - 5th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/cubs - 5th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/reds - 5th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/brewers - 7th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/pirates - 6th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/cardinals - 6th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/dbacks - 7th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/rockies - 5th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/dodgers - 7th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/padres - 6th from team logo on left
https://www.mlb.com/giants - 7th from team logo on left

But the Nats?

https://www.mlb.com/nationals - ????? Not seeing it anywhere.

Anyone else seeing it? Is it my browser (Firefox?) or are the Nats just as awful at creating web pages as they are at playing baseball?

Huh? Can we post images here? Let me try. Yep, it let me. What am I missing? Do you mean between stats and access? (Not seeing video either).

You are correct, OFG. Some of those websites have it and some don't. See the variability of that menu bar in the samples below.

If I had to guess, I would say that MLB assigns those URLs to teams, along with required formatting, but the maintenance of each site is up to the team, not MLB. Better to go to ESPN or CBS Sports for rosters and such.

EDIT: Heh, note the difference between your "Natitude" screen capture and mine, and I also use Firefox.

EDIT 2: That menu bar may change according to whether a game is in progress. Just a guess. Weird.

Somehow, my Cardinals got a really nice player for Helsley. Hitters are hitting .412 this year off his four seamer, that he insists on serving up. Good luck with him.
