I've been playing since I bought Season Ticket Baseball on a disc from some store that doesn't even exist anymore.

The best thing about the game is that you can always come on here (forums) and find different ways to play. For example, I loved playing STB with fictional players only until I found out I could download an historical dn (Lahman) and use real players. My next revolution was when I started playing on-line. Now, as a result of this thread, I am using feeders for the first time.

Anyone remember MicroLeague Baseball. It had the MLB license way back in the 80's and was played on the Apple or Commodore. That's what first got me into Baseball simulators. We had a MicroLeague Baseball League in college. All the floor had their own team and drafted players. It was awesome.

YES!!! It was my first PC baseball game. We simed the entire 1985 season on it. Loved that game. The great "eeeeee" sound when someone struck out. The first & third steal that worked about 95% of the time. (I used that to get Gary Carter about 35 SB)

Never tried Micro League but the first one I ever played, before STB, was called Major League Manager. It was in '86. I was really young and playing on my friends dad's PC...the first one in the neighborhood. I don't remember too much about it but I do remember that it had real rosters and we loved it.

It's time to close this thread. Even Curt's given up on it.

I think I'd let him make the call on that. He seems to have another thread going in the dynasty section of the forum, but General Discussions definitely has more traffic so if he has another "ZOMG! WTF just happened?" moment/question, he can come here and post it without having to open another thread. Rather than taking up too much space on the boards, an "all questions in one thread" thread might actually save space.

Which actually is cool, as my league expands the talent will spread out, but for now it's pretty packed.
Also, my two lower teams, the rookie and short season teams, I have slotted as teenage and 20-22 year old rosters. So to start the season I had almost no players on the rosters.
I set the draft for 45 rounds with 50 rounds of players generated.
There should be a setting that forces HS and College kids (that are free agents) to sign before my two rookie teams season starts. Their schedules are cranking up and I don't have enough players to fill out their rosters.
Believe it or not I feel almost like starting over, which isn't entirely a bad thing, since I am learning some new things about how to setup a league like this.
I am wondering. If I start a league with 16 teams, and plan to expand, how many HS and College Teams should I put in the feeder leagues to make sure there are ample players to fill out 5-6 Minor League teams for each, as well as leave a good pool of free agents?
And FWIW my Arizona team has lost every possible way there is to lose a game. I can't believe the crap that's happening. 3 run lead, 2 outs no one on, walk, single, triple, homer...
I've lost a metric crap ton of games after the 7th with a pretty decent bullpen, some amazing stuff.
I traded a ton of players and picks to grab 3 of the top 5 draft slots, targeting Starters only to find out the 4 top rated starters were all 80 2 pitch pitchers! So middle relievers in essence. No matter, I am going to bring them up as starters hoping they learn another pitch.
That's another thing I was curious about. You can convert high stamina relievers to starters, hoping they get a 3rd pitch. In real life they actually WOULD get AT LEAST a 3rd pitch as starters, no matter how bad it is, they'd have one.
I'd love to see something where I could assign what I wanted that third pitch to be and tinker with it if it didn't work.
Say I had a high 90's reliever, fastball, slider, I'd go for the split as a third pitch, a strikeout pitch and possibly a CB as a good change of speeds strike. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
It's very infrequent in OOTP that a pitcher learns a new pitch. I have had some success starting a 2-pitch stud with high stamina.

How was it confirmed that this guys is really who he says he is.

Im having huge doubts reading his posts on here, he doesnt type anything like what he talks like on those shows. And on those shows he really just talks like an average joe, not someone putting on an image for the tv.

Im really starting to think after reading more and more of this guys posts that this is some kid not really schilling.
I was thinking the same thing.

I started out with the free versions of Total Golf Pro (a golf text sim) & Puresim (another baseball text sim, similar to OOTP). I didn't know that this genre of computer games existed before. I'm a former software developer and started out in the computer industry in the mid 80's, but I usually don't play computer games. However, right now, I enjoy playing text sims. Probably, because they remind me of the sports games (basketball & golf) that I simulated and played as a kid using a deck of cards. (I guess, you can call it a primitive form of text sim.)

A few months later OOTP 8 was offered as a free download. After I downloaded it, I have to admit that I had difficulty learning it. But once I got the hang of it, I preferred it to Puresim. Puresim is easier to learn, and has better play-by-play interface, but OOTP, although a little bit complex, was more realistic and offered a better gaming experience (at least for me).

I've been playing OOTP for the past 2 years and immensely enjoying it, although I still play the free version - OOTP 8. Unlike most of the forum members, I consider myself a beginner, and, right now, I'm pretty satisified with the free version.

By the way, because of chronic illness, I've been staying at home for the past 9 years. Playing text sims, especially OOTP, has been a form of therapy for me. It has helped me cope with my illness. For one thing, It has given me something positive to occupy my time with, and it has taken my mind off my illness...

Many years ago I watched a film on Babe Ruth, and I liked it very much. He was such a colorful personality, and a great baseball player! I guess, that's why I like the Yankees , too - because he played with them. By the way, I consider Babe Ruth my favorite player.

My favorite modern-day players are Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera, whom I consider the greatest closer of all time...
Best wishes for you......

Haven't given up on the thread, just been playing, A LOT. Into season 10 and I am back now only because I've had another game breaking crash that I am trying to fix.
