I've imported a lot of them post age 25 and that probably doesn't help their cause. Otherwise, no real idea. It is an interesting trend though and it would be interesting to see if an import player who wasn't a superstar could manage to get into this league and have a successful career similar to their real life one.

But I'm not sure, it probably has something to do with the way this league is arranged, the fact that there are more teams than in MLB and yeah otherwise no clue.

This Alex Antholopous firing has made me want to take over a team and do some GM handiwork today. We'll see what I can come up with.

I haven't done much, other than move more things around as usual. I should probably just start over and make an entirely new league with a new history but similar teams because this one might have run its course. Or a reboot of sorts like Star Trek.

I seriously never considered this until now. It might be good, because it'd give me a chance to put teams in cities where I might have wanted them from the start, things should move a lot faster because the DB won't be as big and I can basically recreate history and really start over again while maintaining the original league and just keeping it around.

Hmm...this might be a good idea. I didn't think of it until I started typing this thread, but...a smaller league (8 teams aside) with some of the original clubs and maybe some of the non-original clubs, starting in say 1920 rather than 1800 could be a decent reboot given that we know how things turned out for the 385 previous seasons that I've been simming.

If I did it, I think I'd probably bring these clubs along for the ride:

Baltimore Atlantics
Montreal Players
New York Gothams
Great Plains Flycatchers
Colorado Gold Sox
Toronto Blue Collars
Detroit Pontiacs
Washington Maroons
West Virginia Alleghenies
Pittsburgh Yellowjackets
Philadelphia Quakers
Chicago Rogues
San Francisco Peanuts
Houston Cosmos
Brooklyn Originals
Indianapolis Racers

That'd give me room for eventual expansion teams and everything, but without a league that's ever as huge as the one I've been toting for a whole now.

Lemme see.

Done. Created a new 16 team league (8 team subleagues) with a Japanese counterpart classified as an international league that begins in 1902. We'll see how it goes, but I'm going to restart this league essentially.

Unlike the original league, we'll play this one with injuries too.

What's fun is, after the first 20 years of simming or so, I can go back and reimport older guys from the original ABA into this league and see how they do based on their career numbers.

Could be interesting!

Most glaring omission of "older" clubs in the original league? Boston Yanks. Just spaced them for a few of the new teams, but it'll make for a better story to have to add them later. Surely some others, but that's the one team that stuck out to me.

We're going to sim a bit before I jump into this league, though. Get a good foundation and then start paying attention.

1902. League begins. Only pennant winners advance to Daylight Series.
1904. AL holds and LCS to break the pennant tie. Not codified permanently.
1905. Both leagues expand by 1 team. Now 18 teams (9 in each league) (Boston Yanks & Arizona Wrens)

I'd like to expand again to get to 10 in both. I was going wait because I thought I might want to run one of the new teams, but I probably need another 20-25 years of immersion and history because I can start.

1906. Added 2 teams to both leagues (10 in each league) (Victoria Cougars & Florida Rockets) Switched to 160 game schedule from 162. Eliminated interleague play.

The leagues won't really compare because of injuries always being on in the alternate timeline. But that's okay. The teams will have shared histories in some cases and it'll be fun to compare timelines of franchises eventually.

So um, I switched computers and all of the Quickstarts I had saved of this league online do not have world.dat files and so, it looks like I might not have a late copy of this league. I don't like the previous iteration. I am considering starting entirely from scratch, but I'm kind of not loving the idea of it.

I am trying to see if I have a copy saved somewhere of a relatively intact version of the league.

Nevermind. I found a OOTP15 version of the league at 323 years before I forked the league last March. I don't have any of the content from the forked version of the league anymore, but I do have mid-season in 2121 before I switched everything.

So I've imported that into OOTP16. I think I'm going to run a bunch of seasons before I import it into OOTP17 afresh.

It's a 40-team league still at this point. But I'm not sure how much changing I'm going to do. I wouldn't mind some contraction.

It's the setup with the UPB and NABL with three major leagues. I sort of hated that setup. It's kind of a mess.

So I'd need to fix it before I can really sim ahead. I'll probably look at doing that. But I'd kind of like to sim ahead a bit before I do anything else with it in OOTP17.

I have that quick start as well, I love it. It's so big that the simming crawls on my computer, so I don't play with the quickstart much.

I've managed to get the league cleaned up, it's down to a 32-team setup and a lot of the familiar names are still active. It feels weird and I might sim ahead to get to a modern era where I don't recognize the names.

But maybe I can play, I dunno.

I'm simming a few years to get some stats in the new engine to get my bearings. Then I might take over a team, but I have no idea what I'm going to do exactly. Just know that I'm interested in fake baseball for the first time in a while.

I'm back into the file. Approaching Season 350 (again) and I'm almost certainly going to take over the Indiana Racers. Thanks for checking in!

I think I'm going to restart this league, but from scratch. In a Star Wars-like reboot of the history of the league. I'm just too detached fro the history at this point and I'm curious to see what it'd be like to start again with a clean file, without having teams all moved around and with talent that's indigenous to this file without any of the legacy issues that probably happen each year that I've upgraded the game from year to year.

I'll need to figure out the size of the league to start and what my idea is, but...all of this to say, if you're interested in rejoining with a character, then I'd probably be interested in having you now.

Here's the setup to my reboot of the ABA. We're starting in 1945.

The Associated and Federated Leagues each start with 4 teams. We'll gradually expand, with teams that are familiar, but some others that aren't.

AL
Boston Yanks
Brattleboro Grocers
Chicago Whales (as of 1951, formerly Danbury Derbies)
Colorado Gold Sox (as of 1956, formerly Rochester North Stars)

FL
Atlanta Pilots
Brooklyn Originals
Cincinnati Crecents
Ottawa Nationals

The season schedule starts with 130 games right now, but I imagine that might change over time. No minors or feeders right now. Keeping the league file without much bloat. There are 20 rounds to the draft and there are no financials to start off either. (I added them five years in.)

I'll probably sim a decade to get us some history.

(1947)
New York Gothams
Washington Wasps

(1956)
Florida Blue Herons
St. Louis Archers
