Thanks, Heinz. I can recommend a couple of other good leagues, too.

I'm done with this. I don't need to continually answer these baseless allegations, and so I'm not going to. Don't email me, don't PM me, and don't contact me. You keep me out of your crap and I'll keep you out of mine.

Ask anybody else in any league I've been in if they think I'm a problem owner.

What you are experiencing is merely an accusation and is minimal to what I discovered today. About a year ago, I was in what I consider to be the best OOTP league that has ever existed (and I still believe that it's true). I had run my team for ten seasons with integrity and built them into a team that was on the verge of winning it all. I didn't know where I could go to get this information out, but I remembered that a buddy of mine got me log on to this message forum once before when I was looking for a league. I saw this thread and I feel like it's as good of a place as any.

One morning, out of nowhere, I was banned from the league for life because there was "evidence" that over a period of time, I was editing player ratings/talents, etc... I was completely baffled and I was just recently able to let it go (I am somewhat addicted to this game). When it happened, I thought it was a joke. I even took it as far as confessing to continue the "joke", but it was no joke. It was explained to me that my IP address showed that it WAS me that had edited on many occasions not only my players but others as well. I was (and still am) viewed as a criminal to the guys in this league.

I got a phone call today from a former co-worker who I hadn't heard from in a while. He asked me how things were going and how my OOTP teams were doing. He asked me about this team that I recently had taken from me and I explained what had happened. He has the balls to tell me what he had done. He had "helped me out" by going in to my computer and changing from time to time some of my players ratings/talents in hopes that they would take when uploaded by the commish. He says he does this all the time and that there are ways to "hack" into league passwords and that if you are able to do it, then more power to you. What a sick b**tard. I lost a team in the best league that I've ever been a part of because of this idiot. I would mention his name, but I'm afraid he'll sue me.

The way he was able to do it was this (in hopes that some of you commish's out there don't have it happen to you):

I was given the duty of updating the traded draft picks page in my league to ease the work load of the commish. He trusted me enough to give me the password to the league. After a couple of hours one night of him and another GM (the current commish of the league) trying to walk me through the process on MSN messenger, I still didn't quite get it. I asked this former co-worker the next day to help me if he had some time. He was in several OOTP leagues and I knew he had some experience, but I didn't know just how much until today. In any case, we logged onto my computer and he showed me how "easy" it was to do the picks page editing. I did this for a few months and then got the bad news that I was thrown out of the league. I guess I am a little naive, but I never imagined something like this could happen with a "game". I am as serious and competitive an owner as you will ever find, but not so much that I would stoop to this level to try to win. What is even worse, to the best of my knowledge, what he did, rarely if ever worked. I follow my players as well as others in the league to watch trends of development and I couldn't see where they were ever affected.

Long story short, beware that it can happen to you. I even went to our leagues first ever "convention" in Chicago to meet these guys in the league and took in a couple of Cubs games. We had a great time and there was a genuine feeling that I had known these guys all of my life. We even played a wiffle ball game in a local park in which I jacked the game winning HR in the bottom of the 9th to win it for my team. Because of my dismissal from the league, I missed an opportunity for my 7 year-old son and myself to visit Boston last August and meet with them again. I can't even communicate with them anymore because of the loss of trust. One of the members is one of my best friends in the world and I'm sure even he had his doubts about whether I did it - I know I would have some doubts of my own. Very disappointing to say the least, but at least I learned a valuable lesson. I now have to change all of the information on my home computer so that this hack will no longer invade the privacy of my home.

This is not just an OOTP lesson learned, but will forever change the way I use the internet. By far though, the worst part of this situation is that my trust was lost by those guys in that league. My son also enjoyed the league and was learning about some of the other members - ones who were really good managers and who were not (IMO, of course). I ended up telling him that the trip was cancelled and I drove him up to Cincinnati in September to see a Cubs-Reds game as a consolation.

Again, I say this just to warn you guys that things like this can happen. It may be common knowledge to the OOTP community and maybe it is me being naive, but I could never imagine this occuring - until today...

As an owner and league president in the CUBL I must say I find these posts utterly disgusting and degrading to our league which normally IS a very solid league.

I am currently in 5 leagues and never have I seen such childish behavior in any online league. Now would you two please stop crying and acting like little children and move on once and for all.

This is the last time anything will be said about this on the CUBL Board, OOTP Board or any other board for that matter.

This story sounds really strange to me. You get ftp access to upload a html page, and a colleague uses that to edit ratings/talents in the league file? Those are two different passwords...

It should be noted that the league file contains both the ftp password and league password in encrypted form. It is very possible to get them if you know what you're doing, or at least it was at one point. I think I remember something about Markus making the encryption better in a recent release, but I'm not sure.

The only way you can tamper with a file, is if you edit it on your computer and then send the file to the commish and have him use that. You can't tamper with a file and then FTP export the tampered stuff in.

Thomas, please realize that I came to this board for help because I didn't know how I could STOP the problem. I'm not trying to be the bad guy here.

How am I supposed to react when somebody continually attacks me? None of the league higher-ups had done anything when I started this thread. Is it childish to want to stand up for myself when my personal ethics are attacked? (hint: NO)

When a player has an increase of decrease in talent (not ratings) the change is noted on the development page. If the increase came and there was nothing on the development page then he could say something, but if it was there, then he has no legs really to stand on. Unless you can some how change the page and have the change stick every time.

find a new league? there are plenty of good ones that run with no problems and they need good GM's. Now the situation is so messed up that knowbody but those involved know the truth and both party's will be looked on with question in the future.

I feel for you, but frankly you shot yourself in the foot.

Well, that's pretty easy to do, actually. It's just a matter of edditing a text file.

(I'm not implying anything about this specific sittuation, just sayin'.)

I would find a new league, but I've put a lot of time into this one, and I really like it aside from this whole mess. There are a lot of good owners who are pretty active. How did I shoot myself in the foot?

Also: The changes were on the development page. That's how Hoover and I both knew his talents increased.

Yeah right, like those nice girls they have in Pink Pony here in Atlanta. Never saw them, just been told they are great

I feel for you but if the commish couldn't/wouldn't do anything then you are really stuck with only 2 options. Deal with it or move on.

And posting this kind of thing here always turns into a mess
