All I ever expect is a name and an AIM address so I can contact them and know what to call them when I do so. The emails that say 'I'm interested in the Rockies. Let me know if they're available' are really annoying, and I feel the same way about people who post on these forums looking for leagues and do not provide an AIM name. I believe almost 99% of leagues use AIM, it is required in most, why not provide it? That isn't asking too much. |

Personally, I don't think AIM is at all necessary. Most GM's in my league don't use it and our communication has been just fine. I guess there are some merits like getting a trade worked out in less time but I know that some are annoyed when they get contacted too often for almost nothing. It ends up making them leave it off altogether.

You shouldn't judge people just because they choose not to use AIM or don't want it. Everyone should be given a chance to be in league. A league can survive without AIM.

EDIT - Here is a question out of sheer curiosity that I doubt anyone can answer, but it sure has baked my noodle a few times... Why Aim? How did AIM become the most commonly used messenger for the OOTP community? Some game communities use msn, some Yahoo! Messenger, but why AIM? I honestly never would have had it if I never became a part of this community. It sure is baffling. |

![]() EDIT - Posting the AIM names for the convenience of the owners is a far cry from saying the league requires AIM.

I was making the point because you told me your leagues don't use it. |

As far as this thread goes, I think my philosophy is much along the lines of LeftyPower. I don't require much, if any, 'application' to our league. We've been running for a year-and-a-half, through five seasons, and AFAIK from sheer dumb luck we have the most wonderful collection of GMs I've been priviledged to work with. Turnover is very low for a 32-team league. As far as AIM as a requirement...I hate it, and rarely use it. But most of the GMs in the league besides me seem to get use out of it for trades and the like. I'm just too old and get too easily distracted to deal with it. E-mail and PMs for me. ![]() -E

I agree about e-mail and AIM, sometimes people don't have time to do a trade on the spot, e-mail and PMs give the parties time and don't have to worry about responding immediately

i use trillian, so i guess i use them all (ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and IRQ)
![]() i have had many a trade done thru trillian AND many a trade thru email/PM. both work just as well for that. i must say though, i have had much better conversations with fellow GMs thru trillian. Last edited by disposableheros; 11-28-2005 at 10:56 PM. |
