OFFSEASON RECAP

Toronto actually makes a somewhat smart move
The Blue Jays have ceased to stop spending their money on over-the hill players who were never under the hill to begin with. The new starting catcher for the Blue Jays is Tony Pena. Pena agreed to a 4-year contract worth more than 3.5 million dollars a year. Pena, who played last year for the Pittsburgh Pirates hit .298 with 15HR's.
Pena is now a Blue Jay, where he will fit in wonderfully in Toronto

In a draft full of big boppers Astros decide Magadan is their man
The Astros who were blessed with the #1 pick in a draft stock full of future superstars those of which included Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Rafael Palmerio, and Greg Maddux. The Astros apparently believe Dave Magadan's talent is superior to these guys. Magadan plays 1st and will start in A.
Magadan practicing his dumb look

Cleveland has found someone to man the hot corner for many years
Mark McGwire was taken 2nd in the draft Friday, with amazing power potential and a very sharp eye. McGwire has perhaps the potential to eclipse both the single season and all-time homerun record. But only time will tell.
Mark looks to add Major League homers to his wussy college bombs

Willy Mays part deux?
Detroit who were planning on picking either Greg Maddux or Kal Daniels lucked out when the Astros drafted Dave Magadan 1st overall. Because that allowed Barry Bonds to fall down to #3 overall. Barry has basically the same talents as his father Bobby but according to scouts a lot more of it.
Barry with the Alaska Goldpanners when he was kidnapped by the crazy lumberjack coach of the Goldpanners.

Schmidt will go for 500 in Chicago
Mike Schmidt signed with the White Sox for a rich contract of 4-years for 9+ million a year to play 3rd base and lock up a spot in the Hall of Fame. Schmidt who has 472 homers in his career, barring injury should eclipse the holy grail in homers.
Schmidt, who is about to beat the crap of they guy who is taking this picture, will be the cornerstone for the White Sox offense

The 1986 Season begins tommorow!!!!!!!!!

Or maybe tonight if I feel like posting it

Darryl for the first time in his short 4-year career got off to a good start. .305 8HR 23RBI's. Darryl is actually becoming an excellent overall player.

"Hey Ghost!"

"Yes Darryl"

"How you like them numbers?"

"Oh they are just fantastic Darryl, you are actually doing something right. But I'd be willing to bet you hit below .240 next month"

"Your on"

When Darryl is actually doing good, its hard to find degrading things for the ghost to say. Which is the reason for the even more sub-par writing for usual for the ghost this week.

League Notes:
Harold changes his Sox, hits .400 first month

Harold Baines, who played for the Chicago White Sox for his 1st 6 years of his career, signed with the Red Sox and is off to a torrid pace hitting .421 7HR 25RBI's. Harold his a career .293 hitter.

Darryl didn't quite have the sucess he had in April, but yet he did hit above .240 with a .270 average. He's tied for 2nd in the American League in homers with 18.

"Under .240, eh ghost?"

"Darryl you are just so full of yourself, you are already cooling off. I guarentee this time you will lower than you did this month."

Heathcock undefeated through May
Jeff Heathcock is 9-0, and is leading the majors in wins. The Baltimore Oriole pitcher is coming off of a 18-7 season with an ERA of 4.79. Benefited greatly by the powerhouse offense of the Orioles last year, Heathcock is doing a lot of it himself this year with an ERA of 2.45.

Well, the ghost was right. Darryl only managed to hit a paltry .215 this month. Most months when Darryl doesn't hit homers he at least pads it with 7-10 homers. Not this month. 4. four. IV. That's it.

"Did Darryl lose a bet? Oh man, and you were just so full of it too. Back to your no-hitting ways aren't you Darryl"

Gwynn the contact king

By striking out only 8 times through June 30th, your going to be able to manage some hits. Tony Gwynn who has an average of .350 which is 2nd in the National League behind Tommy Herr by one point. Gwynn also has some speed he stole 20 bases last season. Pitchers probably wouldn't be able to strike Gwynn out if he went to the plate with a coke can.

Darryl traded to St. Louis!!! Switches birds on his jersey

Darryl was picked up by the Cardinals for Ps Clay Christiansen and Brad Lesley. Christiansen is 9-5 with a 2.61ERA and Lesley is a 27-year old reliever in AA. Christiansen is a 4* pitcher. The Cardinals are 49-55 11GB. Darryl now leads St. Louis in homers by 17. Leon Durham is 2nd.

Darryl had another bad month hitting .232 9HR. But at least it seems his power is back.

"Why would Toronto trade me? I was one of their best players."

" Becuase both the Blue Jays front office and me that you are just a flash in the pan and are on your way down."

"No it's not! I'd rather be in St. Louis anyway"

"That's good cause' that's where you are going to be"

Jesse Barfield outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays, has 42 homers through July 31st. At the pace he is hitting longballs he has a legitimate chance at being the single season homerun record holder.

Enjoying this one, especially the captions!

"Mark looks to add major league homers to his wussy college bombs"

Excellent application of Google's image search - and be proud that there's not a single dynasty on the boards like this one.

What do you think of Christiansen? Seems a shaky trade to me...but look forward to seeing if the ghost ends up getting the last laugh.

Darryl's first month in St. Louie gave mixed results. With a .242 average and 6 homers, Darryl isn't the next Stan the Man at this pace by any means. The next Joe Torre, perhaps.

"You were middling away in Toronto with no pressure at all on you, now with the big lights of St. Louis you are suffering even more."

Can this guy be that good?

The Royals have struck gold with 25-year old Ken Howell. Howell has played for 2 full seasons. 2 Cy Youngs. 3 All Star Appearences. Taken in the 3rd round by Kansas City, Howell has been by far the most productive player in the 1984 draft. Howell is 14-1 with a 2.08 ERA.

Well, as long as I've been following Toronto, they have made some really dumb moves. Signing 48 year old mopup men to Kevinbrownesque contracts and the such. But this just puzzles me why they would do this. Strawberry is coming up for arbitration, so maybe that's it.

Darryl might not even be the next Joe Torre. With a .176 average in September, Darryl's overall average dropped all the way down to .238. A career low.

"Your lucky you had such a great April, or you would have been struggling to hit .200"

"I ain't worried, I'm coming up for arbitration, the judges know how good I'm going to be."

Rice is doing nice

Jim Rice, Baltimore Oriole leftfielder is coming off of another excellent season. .319 36HR 121RBI's. With 2115 Hits and 382 homers he has a legitimate chance at 3000H and 500 Homers. Rice will look to help the Orioles become back-to-back world champions. The Playoffs start tommorow.

This is extremely good. I am guessing that you sim all the games, correct? Do you do it a month at a time or each day?

I might try this with a HOFer or two just to see if they could come close to what they did in RL. (I'm thinking the "Babe" and/or the "Ryan Express")

Month by Month. I try to have as little participation in Darryl's career as possible. Thanks for the input.

A big thank you to everyone that's replied. Writing a dynasty is a whole lot easier when people reply. Even though writing it is really really easy at the moment.

PLAYOFF RESULTS!!!!

The Kansas City Royals are the new world champions. With basically no power (leader had 17-Tony Bernazard) in their offense, their sucess relies on speed and pitching. The speed is supplied by Gene Richards (53SB) and Willie McGee (31SB). The pitching is by the obvious Ken Howell (19-1 2.12ERA) and the non-obvious closer turned starter Dan Quisenberry (13-11 3.54ERA). They defeated the Montreal Expos 4-2.

Offseason Recap

St. Louis does nothing of note
The Cardinals signed one player in the offseason, veteran outfielder Derell Thomas to a Minor League Contract. Thomas, 36 is best known for his PH homer to win Game 6, and the 1983 World Series. This will be Thomas' 17th season. He's a career .249 hitter. Thomas will play every position except Catcher this year. He played for the Dodgers last year.
The faceless Derrel Thomas

Hall becomes a Blue Jay
In an effort to replace the power of the traded Darryl Strawberry, the Blue Jays signed Mell Hall to a 6-year deal worth more than 11 million a season. Hall who was last year's NL MVP will team up with last year's AL MVP to hit 3rd & 4th and play Center and Rightfield. Hall hit .300 40HR 123RBI last season.
Little known fact about Hall, he auditioned for the movie RADIO but Cuba Gooding Jr. was picked instead

Proffesional Hitter
Detroit continued on stockpiling on excellent hitting prospects. Last year Barry Bonds and this year 3rd baseman Edgar Martinez. Martinez who will begin in AAA, comes to the proffesional ranks with an excellent eye. He has above-average power potential also.

Edgar Martinez nothing funny at all about him

A Power hitting 2nd Baseman?
The Seattle Mariners drafted 2nd baseman Ron Gant in the rookie draft last week and they got a rare commodity. A 2nd baseman with legitimate power. Ron Gant is also an excellent fielder with above average range.
Gant hitting a homer in high school

Dave "overpaid" LaPoint
Pittsburgh Pirates signed starting pitcher Dave LaPoint to a 19.5 million dollar a year contract over 7 years. LaPoint who was 12-8 with a 3.03 ERA isn't exactly a Doc Gooden or Roger Clemens. But it is the Pirates money to spend as they wish.
Dave is now considered in his neighborhood the "rich boy"

The 1987 season coming up soon!!!!

Thanks to the both of you!

Darryl had a ho-hum month in April. His first half of the month was brutal, but he picked up the pace in the 2nd half of the month to bring his average to a .240 clip.

"Oh, Darryl all you can do is hit homers and you are 2nd in the Majors in strikeouts"

"Why won't you just leave me alone?"

Bet the bank on this guy

Scott Bankhead, Expos pitcher is coming off of a very good rookie campaign of 15-10 with a 3.57 ERA. Bankhead has outdone himself so far this year. The 23-year old is a 5-0 with an ERA of 0.99.
Bankhead is a very skinny man

Darryl had a much better month, and that was his best month since joining the Cardinals. He hit .275 7HR 24RBI's plus his OBP% was .373 and he stole 8 bases.

"Did the terrible glare from the arch finally get out of your eyes? Is that why you managed to hit for a respectible average this month?

"No, I'm just gettin out of a slump"

"Oh! A slump? Man it must be just terrible to be in a slump for 4 or 5 years like you were! At least your out of it now.

Early Canidiate for Cy Young?

If the season ended today Dave Stieb, Toronto Blue Jay pitcher would probably be the Cy Young reciepient. With a ERA of 2.62 and a record of 8-2 Stieb is one of the best starting pitchers in the American League. Stieb had a rough season last year but prior to last season he had won at least 12 games for 6 straight seasons.

Interesting... If I had time I may think about doin something like this... Denny McLain "If only I didn't get involved with the mob" would be pretty interesting I think... Or even Teddy Williams.. if he never had to leave in his prime to fly in WWII.

These are just off the top of my head... I'm sure if I really thought about it there's hundreds of careers like this... The possibilities are endless.

Anyways... nice job!
