Here are the final results for the 1937 HOF Ballot. I finished it up today since I need to get the '38 ballot out soon.

Bowie Castellon 0.00%

Cohan was robbed!

Hopefully a successful managerial career will keep him in the spotlight.

Nifty piece, Vris.

Nice to see Whiskey, Gindler and Falise go in. Maybe next year Haymaker and Flaky can join them.

John, sad to see Jed so low... looks like a VC choise down the road...

I think Jed is still being looked at having a lot to do with throwing the 1919 World Series.

I'm shocked to see that Cohen didn't get in. He has an absolute gripe. Voting is going to get harder and harder as we get through these first few ballots.

And thanks for the comment jdw. It was just something I threw together cause it seemed like the thing to do.

Them is fighting words!

Seriously, I think you have Jed confused with Flaky, who while not one of the Black Sox Eight, played horrible in the 1919 Series (and Series of 1917 and 1920). On a team where only two players hit above .222, Jed hit .346/.346/.462 with 4 RBI and 2 runs. He even had productive outs with three SF and laying down a sac bunt.

He did make a pair of errors. The one in Game 7 led to no runs, and tends to be outweighed by his 1st inning two bagger showing he wanted to win even if Eddie Whalen was going to tank the game. The error in Game 5 did lead to runs, as errors by Weekveldt, Jed and Flaky led to all four runs Murph allowed in a 4-2 loss. On the other hand, Jed drove in the first run of the game in the third, and after the disaster in the four run 4th, redeemed himself the next time up by driving in the only other Sox run in the 5th. Perhaps as telling is the lack of support for his hitting as his teamates couldn't plate him either time he got on in the game.

The rest of the series was fine. In Game 3 he drove in the run in the 8th that gave the Sox a 2-1 lead that they would surrender. Ironically that was Jed cashing in a Eriksen triple, where as his mates couldn't cash in his triple back in the 3rd (fixer Hitchins failing).

Overall, he played well in all three of the Sox series in that era. I don't see any evidence that he was involved in the fix (or fixes since Whelan seems to have tanked in 1917 and 1920 as well).

On a level at least people are setting high standards. I voted for Harry, but I'd rather see hard standards than low ones that let in people who aren't worthy. Harry will get in soon.

It's good reading. Nice to see all the fun writing in the past couple of seasons.
