![]() ![]() I am manually typing Xs and Os, because I can't get the grids to post. Maybe you have to be on a phone, what do i know? Some people's I see as green and white boxes, some (like yours) come back as rhombi with question marks. I shrug and struggle on.

Yeah, or perhaps, my old buddy, David, would have rung a bell, eventually. I do notice that my energy flags a bit if I've already flubbed a box.
Still, disappointing. |

I willingly admit to using the Internet to “cheat” with it although I have my own limitations. I try to construct a grid that’s as low score as possible using players I remember (so no looking up teams) and when I use BBRef it’s ideally just to confirm that player A did in fact play for Team B (or, in one case where I didn’t do a lookup, got 3,000 strikeouts - turns out that Cy Young finished his career with 2800). *Occasionally* I will be like “ugh the catcher for the expansion Marlins what’s his naaaaame” and look up teams like that but I will hate myself for it. Also I’m just not good with the Rays and Diamondbacks beyond a couple of players, I will freely admit.

If a player fits two of the nine squares, you will be blocked from using him a second time. I ran into it a few days ago when Fred Lynn fit both the BOS/DET and BOS/ANGELS boxes.

Yeah, screen-shots make the most sense. I‘ll start doing those now.
From a few days back. Not so much to brag (well, a bit, probably), but because this scored 41, and that's a special number for me, of course. And also for FatJack, naturally. |

I gotta say.... I love it. The real fun is trying to get the lowest score (best rairity) possible. So, a Red Sox and an Angel... Mo Vaughn, Fred Lynn, Jerry Remy, Carney Lansford... too easy... Butch Hobson (the third piece of the Lynn) trade had under 1% of respondents. Sometimes I have the screen open in the background for an hour or two while my brain turns it over and over ...
EDIT: That's a thing of beauty, Amazin'!

My first day playing. Had no idea what the "rarity" score was about, it just showed up after I gave 9 answers?

And I am ever so grateful for those Cleveland Hedlund pics that we discussed in the Photopack thread, or I might have had to resort to Rusty Torres or someone like that. (In re today's grid, I had no recollection of Beniquez even spending 1977 in Arlington, much less winning the GG that year. I guess he was part of the Fergie trade? And Lynn got hurt?) ETA: wow, that's brilliant, Sid! Bernazard scored better than Felix Fermin, I guess. And Hebner is the first < 0.01% I have seen. (I wonder how much of a penalty the obvious Dick Selma guess would have cost me?) Last edited by Amazin69; 07-17-2023 at 07:16 PM. |

Grid 107
7/9 (new best!) OXO OXO OOO Rarity: 429 (new best!) I had the numbest guess, literally, for five of the seven I got, including the entire Marlins row. I'll take it.

I wouldn't know a Silver Slugger if it whacked me in the nuts, so I basically punted this one. Five of the players came easily (Brewers mean I can use Pilots and I know THAT team inside out, of course) and then I was just so blocked on the last one that I threw in the sponge and took my medicine. 134 doses, precisely.
Annoying to find that I could have gone for Alfaro, after all. Oates was my first four digit pick, but apparently he had a late surge and is back to 0.01% Ah, well. Sic Transit Gloria Steinbrenner ETA: Richie "As Jocasta said to Œdipus, Would You Like to Have" Sexson was a Yankee? Did not know that. Last edited by Amazin69; 07-18-2023 at 02:37 PM. |

Ricky Bones was the “Brewers starter in the 90s” I couldn’t put my head around! In the end I went with “guys who played for the expansion team”, which, I remembered from an earlier Marlins “romp” that McClure closed out his career with them…
