Is there some subtle political commentary there by invoking Hobbes? When I taught history at the local university I used to love to make my students compare Locke and Hobbes quotes. Nice work on these!

Yes
it seemed a more honest name for a Washington team. Especially one established during the Bush years. I was also thinking of the Standard Oil Octopus. I tried to make something out of "Washington Complexes" and I actually went so far as to google what the Pentagon's logo looks like, but it seemed too ugly of a concept to even make a joke about.

When I changed the Nationals and their two rookie league teams over to the Leviathans, I noticed that their A ball team is just called the Fredericksburg Nationals. So I am going to have to do something, likely something stupid, to replace them . Complexes, Masons, Burnsides, it's bad ideas all the way down...

Totally was thinking of the Standard Oil Octopus too! It was such an obscure reference I wasn't sure if anyone would get it! Nice!

Fredericksburg Hatchlings
Replacing the Fredericksburg Nationals, the single A team of the Washington Leviathans: the Fredericksburg Hatchlings. Obviously I made a second bonus version where I tried to give little Levi the Tentacle Monster Ambrose Burnside's sideburns.
Logo is the spiritual successor to this absurd real Senators logo! Last edited by 20_range; 12-31-2022 at 09:26 PM. |

Harrisburg Senators
Moving on to the Leviathan's double A team, the Harrisburg Senators. I may have forgotten to mention that in this timeline, like the Cleveland Naps, the Washington Leviathans were named after their best player. A youngster of mixed human-cephalopod heritage, Walter Johnson had an unhittable fastball and unbeatable stamina, simply switching between his many arms in the late innings. Based on the second Senators' logo, this Harrisburg Senators logo honors the silhouette of their parent franchise's greatest star.
An anatomically correct statue of "The Big Squid" can be seen outside Leviathans Park. |

Bluefields Navy Baseball Club
Named for a historical team from Bluefields. This is just the Manchester City logo, with the rose from the War of the Roses replaced by the coat of arms of the Miskito Kingdom. I wanted to finally attempt to follow the curving text in gimp instructions to the end.
This team really needs a throwback/original logo in the style of tm1681's 19th century league. Perhaps when I have improved ![]() Last edited by 20_range; 01-02-2023 at 12:38 AM. |

Santa Marta Norteños
I tried to make something simple for once. This is the northernmost large city in South America, in the Caribbean (baseball-playing) region of Colombia. It's a minor league team for when I get around to expanding to Barranquilla or Cartagena (if I want to deal with having a 48 team league).

Here it is in Colombian flag colors, which seems obvious in retrospect

Wilmington Behemoth
Continuing replacing the Washington Nationals minor league teams with the Washington Leviathans, goodbye Wilmington Blue Rocks. Here are your 1825 Wilmington Behomoth(s). Art and text by William Blake!

San Salvador Volcanes
I traced these volcanoes from a picture of San Salvador on wikipedia following a tutorial, so this would have been maybe the first "original" logo that I had made, or the first one that was a logo rather than a collage. But then I decided that the baseball being ejected during the eruption should come from the Dodgers' logo, and then I thought I'd just make this a Dodgers minor league team. It's plausible also that the designers of the team would have chosen to copy the famous logo.
Also I finally remembered to save them in the proper format with the color codes, in case anyone else ever uses these ![]() ***edit months later - I improved this! Last edited by 20_range; 09-16-2023 at 01:21 AM. |

Club Panamá/ Niveladores de Ciudad de Panamá/ Panama City Levellers
Club America's wonderful crest looks to me like it should be Club Panama instead, so that's what I made. C.P. can stand for Club Panama, Ciudad Panama, or Canal Panama.
The team is named after the laborers who built the canal, and these 17th century leftists. In this timeline they founded a baseball team which made it all the way into this century, or one was started in tribute to them. I'm also attempting a second Panama team, after the socialist Diggers. This is how I choose to play ootp! Another map logo for the small logo, I don't know if it really works but the shapes of the letters are kind of there in the country's outline. ed: improved the font to make it look more like the rounded A in Club America Last edited by 20_range; 01-09-2023 at 10:42 PM. |

Salem Non-Hierarchical Witch Council
I couldn't decide whether to put this team in Salem, OR or Olympia, WA maybe there should be a witch-themed team in Olympia, too. Olympia would be more of a modern witch feel, Kathleen Hanna & Calvin Johnson, whereas Salem has the old-school witch name, plus the roses theme.
In this timeline the state government of Oregon has likely been replaced by a non-hierarchical witch council. |

Winnipeg Pamphleteers
This is the team I manage in my current league. I wanted a smaller expansion market after long saves in Nashville and Portland.
The Pamphleteers are named after a song by the Winnipeg band The Weakerthans. The item in the middle is a gestetner, a pre-digital 20th century copying machine, which the narrator uses to make leftist pamphlets and which was also used to make zines and small group publications. As you can see you put paper in one side, and in this version, a finished baseball comes out on the other. In honor of the dreams of the narrator of the song, in this timeline Winnipeg is an independent socialist city-state, and the team is administered by the Department of Baseball (that's me, plus I add a random roll to big decisions to simulate collective government). The darker colors are from the Penmen logo which comes with the game. I used it for a year before I started making logos and I am attached to it. The second version colors are from the Winnipeg flag. The buffalo is from the Manitoba flag (or from these flag-fan-made replacement flag suggestions). |

Montréal
Not sure what the name of this team is. It could be the Hummingbirds/Colibris, or the Anthems/Hymns. Right now I'm calling them Les Rois Déconcertés de Montréal, the Baffled Kings.
This board has plenty of great designs for Montréal, but they're all so monarchic. I didn't want a fleur de lis. I wanted to do a Leonard Cohen thing. He's from there. It is a mashup, for reasons that make some sense to me, of the Montréal Royals, the Kansas City Monarchs, the album cover of The Future. The crown is meant to have been thrown off or defeated by the heart (replacing the chains in the album cover). It also, maybe, rolled off the king's head, maybe something happened to his neck… I believe from a signature I see a lot that there is at least one person on this board who would like this ![]() "Baffled" would accurately describe the reaction of all parties — 18th century kings, 20th century black athletes and their bigoted opponents, mystic horny poet singers — to seeing this logo Last edited by 20_range; 01-21-2023 at 10:28 PM. Reason: I added the versions with the crown |
