For the 21st year (since Version 3) order is in. All the criticisms aside, my lifetime investment in this game is one of the best entertainment decisions I've ever made

The good news is the game is so customizable and re-playable that whenever production does finally stop, we'll be able to play the final version for decades.

But hopefully that day isn't any time soon.

Can't wait to play the new version. Thanks as always!

Congrats. Excited to play it.

BTW, awesome logo. I love the color scheme and the number font for 23.

Last two versions I've purchased on Steam and doing the same this year. Auto updates and the Steam Workshop are two features I'd hate to be without.

Looking forward to seeing what Markus, Matt and team have come up with for OOTP23. Love this time of year.

I've been playing since v9 and I too, have poured a ton of very enjoyable time into this game series and plan to for many more years to come!

I've been playing since OOTP9 and OOTP22 was the first version I ever tried on Steam, and I disliked it so much I bought a FastSpring version not long afterward. I really like the option to install the game into one folder and I like to control when I want to update my game. I also had times when Steam was acting up and I couldn't load up my game to play; not even PT. Needless to say, I am sticking with the FastSpring version.

For balance, I'll just comment for anyone, new user or old, that may come in and read this.

I've had no issues using Steam that has resulted in me not being able to play the game. If one is worried they can set up the game to play in "offline" mode. I believe, that also means the game won't update unless one switches to "online". Someone please correct me if that is wrong.

One other advantage is, when patching, the game is not totally reinstalled as happens with Fastspring as the patch is the whole new exe. Where in Steam it only updates files that change. The advantage is mod files are not overwritten with each new patch unless, or course, if that one particular file is changed in the patch.

None of that means I think everyone should get the Steam version. Doesn't mean others do not have problems. I can only speak from my experience and what I know about how Steam works.

In the end, for me, being able to go to the Steam Workshop and install most of the mods I want (historical stadiums, face gens, etc.) by simply "subscribing" to the mod and letting the workshop install them makes Steam the better option for me. The only price I pay is to not get the 2 day early release that I used to get buying direct from OOTP.

I have lost count how many of the last incarnations of this game I have bought. At least the last 12-13 versions. I have re-upped for OOTP 23, and looking forward to Pre-Release Day!

Yeah, I had the Steam Workshop version a couple years ago and similarly, it's fine. The reasons I get the Fastspring version are:

- I think OOTP gets a bigger cut. It's probably the difference of a dollar or two at most but a dollar is a dollar I guess...

- When I see a patch is released I am usually like "omg I need this RIGHT NOW" and I don't want to wait the extra 2 or 3 days it takes to get cleared to go on Steam. This is clearly a personal problem I have, not an issue with Steam per se, but it's also a side effect of being active on the boards I guess.

- One of the side effects of using mods with Steam is that if you're not going directly through the Workshop and/or are adding things in yourself (for example, making changes to the english.xml file), patches will sometimes overwrite your changes. Again, Steam "knows" not to touch stuff that you picked up via the Workshop so this might not be that big of a deal for most users but as a person who often makes little fiddly changes here and there this is a big do not want from me.

Well, let's see if I can be sarcastic without someone jumping down my throat

Markus - you do realize this comes under cruel and unusual punishment, announcing the next version and then making us wait 2 weeks for the reveal.

Thank you for another release.

It's great that we have something in common - we've both been dedicated to OOTP for 23 years.

I agree. I didn't even know what Steam was until OOTP gave out that free Steam install several versions back. I'm not the most computer savvy guy and Steam makes things so much easier for me. Having such easy access to all things sylvem(hope I spelled that right) is almost as important to me as getting the new version of the game.

Ordered as soon as I received the email. I've been pre-ordering OOTP for almost 20 years now!

Are there any plans to bring the mods available in steam workshop to non-steam versions?

I just wanted to say how much I love the new logo. I think that's black on the seams? I like the look of it with the blue. It complements it well.

Still no product page for 23 on Steam. (scratches grooves into his desk)

You should be able to find most if not all the mods on the forums here.
What specific one you looking for?
