If they sold their best cards such that the team they have on the field is the best that they have available, then I consider that to be a legitimate strategy since they are fielding the best that they have. If they are holding back their best players but still own them, then that is improper tanking to me.

I respectfully disagree. this is definitely tanking

I think there is a right and a wrong way to do this "legitimate" strategy. Selling off players but keeping enough around to be competitive (for lack of a better word) would be be one thing. Playing at a level that skews all known parameters of stats makes a mockery of the game, not to mention the amount of points he is handing out to the other team.

I mentioned in the first post that he may be going for a theme. Looks like it is an "Unsung Heroes" theme as every play fits that except for one "Shapshot" player. I don't think there are any Unsung above OVR 65, so I imagine that is the reason for the bizarre numbers being produced. Don't know if OOTP will have a problem with that since theme teams are OK, but they might not like it if it is theme team to the bottom, then good players put back in... rinse and repeat.

Edit - Team has no catchers, so the slot is left blank. AI is just playing someone from among the non-starters. That might be helping with the 12 runs per game being given up

Well, the tanker is no longer tanking. 7 games ago, all of the scrubs were replaced by all of the players he had stashed on his inactive list. After going something like 7-50, the team is 4-3 over those 7 games.

Yeah, that no catchers thing is tanking for sure and 100% a violation of the spirit of the rules.

It's not just because we want them to get out of the way faster, there's a more nefarious reason...

When multiple top-heavy teams start running 90-10 win/loss records, that results in other divisional leaders being included in the weekly promotion sporting sub-.500 records. These teams are doomed to be torn up in the higher level and likely to be relegated the following week.

See the example below from one of my teams. The bottom 5 teams in the promotion list have a combined winning percentage of .500 or less due to the top-heavy four teams having a combined 317-112 record .739.

Promoting teams with sub .500 records ultimately will deflate any fun for those owners until weeks go by to thin out the Whales in the lower levels. Moving them up faster would resolve this issue and make it more competitive for everyone..

Thoughts?
I was trying to join much later to avoid any whales and the bulk promotions. But the perfect draft dragged me on. Good job OOTP development team.

By God, I laugh my rather generous &&& off watching some of the pretzel logic used by folks to defend obvious tanking. If your statement begins with, "It's not really tanking if," then trust me...it is.

Syd is dead on target. See a tanker, report them. I'd go farther. Suspect a tanker? Report them. Why? Because the Development Team will make the decision, and unless you're a dolt and publicly accuse them without metaphysical certitude of tanking, they'll decide and the person scrutinized will never know...nor will the general lot of players.

The guy that I originally said was tanking was reported, and after a couple of months of games (where he won less than 10% of games), he suddenly had his regulars restored and played out the season like it should. He won around 55% of his games once he did. He finished tied with a another team for the fourth relegation spot and lost out, so he is staying at the level he is currently at.

I thought they were moving some teams up more than one level?

I joined in the second week, and there are three levels above me instead of the one I would expect (my team has been promoted in both seasons they finished).

The first week they populated 2 or 3 levels, but that only happens once. If the best team were pushed up two levels for the first month (as an example) that would help put some separation between the best and the worst quicker.

That said, I get the definite feeling they aren't interested in doing that, so i would think the idea is dead on arrival.
