Signed emphatically. My 10 year old online league is not converting to OOTP 12 mainly because there are still no customizable playoff formats. This feature is long overdue.

As I played each game it updated it's record the next game it played, i.e. when the two losers met their records were both 0-1

Never looked at standings screen because this is the post-season, so standings shouldn't change....

I was worried when a 2-1 team went against a 2-0 team and it said Championship Game but after the 2-1 team beat the 2-0 team and I scheduled them again it showed a 3-1 team vs a 2-1 team and said Championship Game again and the 3-1 beat the 2-1 team and I finished the day and ended the playoffs and went into history and it showed the champion being the team that won it :-)

Carrying 18 hours this summer so time to play with this more is limited. But I hope to soon...

Ah! I never thought to look at standings screen to see what says about the post-season at the top of the screen - I was just happy playing a bracket :-)

That's why you were able to continue. If the Championship Game as shown on the standings screen didn't take place then your season would never end, but because by a chance of results one of your matchups was actually the game OOTP had originally scheduled as the Championship Game it attributed the results correctly.

If you try to do as you have with say a bye in the first round then you'll probably end up in a never-ending season as two of the first round matches will probably never happen.

I had two byes in first round. :-)

What I did to 'fool' the system was go into setup, pick 2 teams and 1 game playoff, saved that, then went back in and selected 6 teams, with of course does not give us any teams to pick for series length or anything, and I saved that...

Wasn't the playoff game option in the schedule editor in v11?

@ootpbaseball tweeted that they're "considering this for patch #2". I figured it wouldn't make it into the initial release as Markus said awhile ago that it might make it into a patch. I'm very pleased to hear that it's still on their minds for OOTP12 though.

Now if we could get proper tie-breakers in place I could die a happy man.

Alright make that proper tie-breakers and to piggyback on that assigning homefield advantage right or better yet let me edit who has it so I can use my house rules for homefield.

The big thing I really want to see in the playoff options is to be able to assign the home field advantage in the World Series. As it stands, I am always having to edit the schedule to get it right. And this would have to represent two ways, alternating, and then of course be able to define when the AL gets it or when the NL gets it, then doing it the all-star game winner (ie the real world stupid way of doing it). Also wouldn't mind being able to set it up for the previous rounds either, for home field advantage rotated in the LCS for years. Record has never played a role in home field advantage for the MLB playoffs until relatively recently.

Bob Costas's playoff structure

In his book Fair Ball, Bob Costas proposes this structure (for the present day, real world setup of 2 leagues with 3 divisions each):
3 division winners, no wild card. Team with best record draws a bye in the first round.

I'd like to play that in OOTP.

It'd be pretty hard to have a club have a bye when the other two clubs are playing a best-of-5 or best-of-7 series.

What I was recently thinking about doing was to have, for example, while the #2 seed is playing the #3 seed using a 2-3-2 (or 2-2-1-1-1, whatever) format, the #1 seed hosts the #4 seed with say all games at home (or maybe 5-2 or 6-1 at home). I can't imagine in a hundred years that a #4 seed (in a smallish, say 12 or 16 teams, size lg) would beat a #1 seed where they had to play all games at the better team's park so it might as well be a bye with the added bonus that the #1 seed is getting extra playoff gate money and getting to not have to play their best players too much if they don't want to.

I also like the Mexican best losers still advance, but personally I don't want 6 teams of my 12 team lg making the playoffs so I'd rather use the all at the better team's park idea.

That said, I definitely still want to see byes for say a best of 1 or best of 3, perhaps double elimination, cup tournament.

This is true in real life. But in the game, it should be pretty easy. I suppose if you wanted added realism, there's always the rust factor for a team with a week layoff or so. I'm not sure how much rust there would be after only a week, though.

The Tigers stunk pretty bad in 2006 after sweeping Oakland and waiting around for the NL series winner.
