I also am a "Eugene Church Simmer". I sim the first 6 innings of a game and play out the rest. If there is a big game I'll play from the first pitch. (think pitcher going for win #20, a week's worth of games during a playoff push, & etc.)

I sim one week at a time, only playing out games in 1-pitch mode if my team makes the playoffs

I voted "Other" in the poll.
I play in the Commissioner Mode and control all teams. In order to control most of the late-inning substitutions, I play out the last three innings of every game using the one-pitch mode. I do this to limit the AI. I can control 90% of the subs this way. Too often it pulls a pitcher for a closer when the pitcher could go the entire game. This method also limits the double switches that occur too often for historical players. Last edited by Eugene Church; 09-15-2009 at 10:40 PM. |

An even split! Half players, half simmers. I bet that was a shock!
Okay, Markus, now we need much more stuff for people who play out their games!

I'm probably a half and half. When my team is playing well I play them out but when it starts going bad I sim some games to see if it starts getting better. I go back and forth depending on how I feel about my team. So I chose 'Other' in the poll.

Play every inning of every game. Import to new version of OOTP every year and then continue.

I was an every pitch of every inning kind of player, until I learn some stuff. Then I moved to a 1 pitch player except in certain situations, like steal situations, hit-and-run, etc. since in a lot of those places you want certain counts and to see how an at bat is going to shape out.
I don't think I have simmed a single game since I purchased v8. Of course online is something different, but I would play out those too if I could!

I sim. Usually, I sim a week at a time. Before the conversion from 6.5 to OOTP 2006, I played all my games out. Under the new system, I find it more enjoyable to sim. I play as GM and allow my manager to manage the team. I do set the rotation and lineups, though.

Currently, I play each game in one-pitch mode.
I would like to sim each game but I have a couple of reservations. I can't tell from the game log whether or not 'hit and run' or 'run and hit' etc etc is being done. Without that information, I cannot judge how to set the managerial sliders to do what I would like to do. Am I missing something? Or does there need to be some more information available somewhere? |

Poor Markus. I'm sure he was hoping for something a little more illuminating than a 20/20/20/15/15/10 split.

He got illumination: we are equally divided between simmers and players. That's important knowledge, and it means that the two areas should be given equal priorities.

Undoubtedly it's useful. But it reminds me of working with a client and asking "What's your highest priority?" And the answer is usually and illogically "Everything."
![]() Admittedly it's different though coming from 100+ individual users than it is one or two people. But it makes me relive nightmares of my job.

I sim my fictional league, probably a month at a time. I one-pitch play out any playoff games.
