Okay, that's it. From here on out, if you have a championship ring and you lose to somebody in your group, you lose the belt. That's the rules. We're talking about you, Tom McConkey. Now the 5 Boroughs ring-holder has twice as many losses as wins, and the guy who is clearly the class of the region still has nothing. There's something not right about that.
If it does help, though, we imagine we'll be seeing some new blood in the region really quick. Or regions, as the case may be. There's still just the one Canadian, and a couple of the guys who fought this month who are getting close to coming out of beginner status are probably looking to be meat-and-potatoes men, but we also see a "World" region, composed of non-USA/Canadians, coming on the horizon. Where else wiykd we put Don Flamenco and Alaska Nick Folleyetski (wait, Alaska is a US territory now? Oh, whatever. It's all just polar bears and Russians as far as we're concerned). Notes: Scott Ross failed his physical following his fight with Kid Quick. He'll miss the rest of the spring, at least, delaying his coronation in the Tomato Can club by three more months. Code:

Get it? Short? Tall? This is a fine joke for 1867. 4/26/1867 Julius Perry 2-1-1 1 Bear Hugger 0-2-1 Frank's Beginners C D MD One judge actually had fight scored for Hugger. Not a good sign for Perry, whose jaw resembled an ice sculpture. 4/26/1867 Cap'n Jack O'Rourke 5-0-0 2 Spencer Summers 1-8-1 Frank's Beginners D F MD We're not sure Cap'n Jack actually won this fight. His punches definitely looked harder than Summers'. 4/26/1867 Jesus Horne 7-3-0 3 Tom McConkey 3-6-0 Frank's New York A C KO3 Unbelievably, the only way McConkey would take this bout was if it *wasn't* for the NY title. Two more boxers entered the 5 Boroughs region this month. We're finally up to double digits in there, although we've half a mind (more than half, actually; more like three-quarters of a mind) to drop Michael Butler into the list of guys who serve to make the rest of the boxers look better. That's bad news that we should not talk so much of. For better news, how about that Cap'n Jack - Manuel Roettgen fight? Boy, are those guys going to be good when they finally progress into the regionals. Another fun one was Nick Gregory, who made Oscar Thompson finally look like the glass-jawed yokel he looks like in sparring. Although we do have to say that it takes a fair amount of pluck to get up from being knocked to the floor 4 times in a fight.
There has been a 4th organization announced with its own special ring. Sponsored by Heinz, the leading authority in ketchups, the 56th Flavor Award will go to the finest of all tomato cans. Along with the award will come the fanciest ketchups the world will have to offer. That's right, really expensive ketchups. Dijon ketchup! Mmmm mmm. Notes: Following his fight, Milton Harris was found to be carrying something weighted in his gloves. While we appreciate the show of creativity, we also need to let people know that we can't have this in the future. He's been suspended for the next 9 months. Code:
Date Winner W-L-D K Loser W-L-D K Venue Group Significance Matchup Result 5/10/1867 Julius Perry 3-1-1 2 Buffalo Bill 0-1-0 Frank's Beginners B C TKO5 Billy Cody showed some nice moves with the lasso before the fight, then some not-so-nice ring moves during it. 5/17/1867 Bear Hugger 1-2-1 1 Joe Miles 0-6-0 Frank's Beginners D B- TKO5 Hugger bloodies Miles' face, hugs his body like they were dance partners. 5/17/1867 Roderick Johnston 7-5-0 Mike Reynolds 5-6-2 3 Frank's New York C B UD Johnston's head hits harder than his fists: fight stopped in 9th after headbutt and he won on the cards. 5/24/1867 Spencer Summers 2-8-1 Alex Beaudoin 3-1-0 1 Frank's Beginners D F SD This was supposed to be a showcase fight for Beaudoin; instead, Summers wins his first fight since his debut. 5/24/1867 Milton Harris 2-0-1 Alan Briggs 1-5-1 Frank's Beginners D D UD Briggs actually made a good show of it until the 8th, when Harris knocked him down 3 times. 5/24/1867 Don Flamenco 4-2-0 William Jackson 3-2-0 1 Frank's Beginners C B UD Flamenco has weaknesses, but controls fights so well that it's hard to catch him at them. 5/24/1867 Cap'n Jack O'Rourke 6-0-0 2 Manuel Roettgen 4-2-0 3 Frank's Beginners A A UD Fight of the year? At least for the KOTR group.
