Really weak he wouldn't take $1.5 per year less to stay in Oakand and compete for a championship. I mean he can't really need the money that bad at this point in his career can he?

Weak? He got offered a better contract and took it. Why should he have loyalty towards the A's, he played for them 1 season. Who is to say the Jays can't make the playoffs next season?

Now he took the money and ran, to a team with an astroturf field no less, and will probably end up finishing in 3rd in the East.

Yeah, you really shouldn't have some loyalty to a team that helped you resurrect your career when no one else wanted you, what was I thinking?

Its easy for me to say no because its not my choice, but I left a job that was paying me a little more for a job that was going to make me happier. So yeah, I can honestly say I would have stayed in Oakland if I were him.

About $500 less a month, so about $6000 a year. Follow me on this.
$7.5 million is 83% of $9 million so he would have taken a 17% paycut. My salary was $36,000. I make $30,000 now. $30,000 is 83% of $36,000. So yeah I took the same percentage paycut which is really the only way you can compare athletes salaries with the real world.

I don't care if a guy is not producing because he's bad or because he's injured, the bottom line is they aren't producing. Are replacement level players bad? Because that's what you get when Thomas is injured.

Your situation works because most people in real jobs perform well when they are happy, and get fired if they don't perform. Athletes get "fired" too but they get to keep the money. Really, you can never compare athletes and real jobs.

Your willingness to do so shouldn't make him obligated to do so. People have different values and different priorities. It's great that you got extra value by taking that other job, but you can't expect everyone else to feel the same way.

unbelivable. Did JP look out into the market and think "whose the oldest most decrepted player we could sign?". I"m hoenstly not seeing the logic behind this other than the burn Mr. Rogers money (which isnt' a bad thing since Rogers sucks ass, but I digress)
This is giving me Jason Allison-esque vibes, only this time I'm not laughing at a Toronto team
